Nastiest celebs...

Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

OP posts:
Smokeyrobinson · 19/04/2015 23:43

Yy to Norman Wisdom being an arse - met him in late 1960s and he was vile. I was only about 7 or 8 and he made me cry.

JB from JLS is very lovely.

My dad knew actress Sharon Duce - very nice lady.

Ken Dodd lived on my Grandma's street and often popped round for a cuppa.

My friend worked for both Anthea Turner and Joanna Lumley. Anthea Turner very arrogant and actually used the phrase 'Do you know who I am'!! Joanna Lumley was utterly charming, considerate to others and was more than happy to put the kettle on and make tea for my friend while they worked!!

DH worked for Joe Elliott of Def Leopard. He was a top bloke very down to earth and friendly. His beautiful and very glamorous wife was happily cooking bacon sarnies for DH and his workmate!!

YouTheCat · 19/04/2015 23:51

My mum sat next to Claire Bloom and Rod Steiger in a coffee shop in the 1960s as there was nowhere else to sit. She said they were really nice.

Also said that Cary Grant was lovely when she met him at the premier of Operation Petticoat - she was in the Wrens and was there for the publicity photos.

She was a bit of a one for hanging around the stage door and said Roy Castle was her favourite celeb as he was always so nice.

BackCrackandNappySack · 19/04/2015 23:51

I knew Stella Mc. had to be a total cow, I just knew it.

She always looks so petulant and contemptuous. She has a face that looks like it needs a good slap.

WienerDiva · 19/04/2015 23:53

Chris Barrie was a complete fuck nugget (Rimmer from Red Dward). A complete wanker actually.
Rory Bremner was lovely and helped me and mum find the entrance to a building.
Mohammed Al Fayed was a lovely
gentleman.
Camilla Parker Bowles was really sweet to my nan. Rather love her actually.
Pam St Clement is a lovely lady that I could spend hours talking to.
Simon Pegg can piss off. I trotted up to him to say that my dd may have gotten a bit of sick on the back of his trousers (long story) but his agent just told to "Go. He isn't talking to anyone today. So no. He won't be doing photos or autographs. Leave quickly." Fine by me, hope the smell of puke made you and precious Simon green around the gills.

I'm so please to hear about Daniel Radcliffe. I dream that one day we'll meet and it will be the meeting of two kindred spirits and we'll marry. DH isn't quite so keen on that plan though (selfish oik).

ThunderbumsMum · 19/04/2015 23:54

Angela Rippon is a vile, disgusting bitch

GuiltyAsAGirlCanBe · 19/04/2015 23:55

Amy winehouse was lovely - but bonkers. I used to serve her when i worked in a camden bar - she would always come in after closing time expecting a drink. She was always loud and drunk and fery shouty - but hilarious and lovely. And tiny. I even randomly bumped into her on liverpool st in the middle of the night. She was titally alone, carrying a bag that was bigger than her and totally off her face. This was circa 2007 so at the height of her fame. She still stopped to say hi to me and my friends. Such a legend.

patienceisvirtuous · 19/04/2015 23:55

zebra re bieber, I'm sure he has a much younger sibling so would make sense that he relates well to younger kids.

I once had a moment with Roger Black Blush. I was working at a corporate event, he was keynote speaker. We were briefing him and he kept making eye contact with me and smiling. When he walked away after the briefing he turned back and smiled at me again. Couldn't decide whether it was creepy or flattering...

GladysTheGolem · 19/04/2015 23:56

I've heard horrible things about Marilyn Manson from different people.
Lovely things about Sir Terry Prachett, Patrick Stewart & Sean Bean

Lovely;
Rik Mayall is one of the nicest wankers I've ever met (numerous occasions), thoroughly lovely man.
Ken Loach (happy to see he was already mentioned)
Sly Stallone (very very very very short)!
Simon Amstell, phil jupitus & Marc La Marr
Tony Blair (annoyingly)
Samantha Bond
Michael Rosen (which is great as he's a childhood hero)!
Brian May
David Seaman back in the day.

Not so lovely;
Edith Bowman. Although the pressure of being the centre of the universe probably gets to her sometimes, bless. Had the misfortune of spending an entire day in her blindingly important awesomeness.
David Cameron
My knee Klass
Cherie Blair
That West Country bloke who used to do a show with Alan Carr.

BackCrackandNappySack · 19/04/2015 23:57

I was prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt (bitchy resting face and all that) but the anecdote upthread has confirmed my worst fears.

I want to think that Dawn French is perhaps just very shy. I know she's a very private and almost hermit like person, she doesn't even have the internet apparently.

If I were famous people would probably say I was a right cow as well, because I have to be in the mood to socialise and sometimes I just need to retreat into myself for a few days at a time. But when I choose to see friends I can be the life and soul and very chatty. Poor old celebs don't get the choice - they are expected to turn it on every time they walk out of the door, and with total strangers too. Especially if they are funny for a living. Confused

WienerDiva · 19/04/2015 23:57

Fluffy, I've met Anthony Head too! Bloody lovely man, have fancied him ever since. And Jenny Agutter too. She was very sweet and allowed me to be a little star struck.
Oh and DH has a royal as a facebook friend (can't say though, MI5 are watching).

BackCrackandNappySack · 19/04/2015 23:59

sorry I was still talking about Stella in my last post

GladysTheGolem · 19/04/2015 23:59

A relative used to work At the BBC way back when, apparently John Gielgud & Laurence Oliver were both lovely men. Refuses to discuss the arses annoyingly!

GuiltyAsAGirlCanBe · 20/04/2015 00:01

I spoke to matt bellamy from muse once on teh phone and he was lovely. In fact i fancied his phone voice but i didn't realise who he was - i was telling one of my colleagues about the convo and that's when i realised who i had been talking to!

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 20/04/2015 00:01

Snapshots only (bearing in mind the Worra warning.

  • Seb Coe travels from my station regularly and seems perfectly normal. A colleague was also on the bus with him the other day andas she is much cooler than me chatted to him about the Olympics etc and said he was great.
  • I sat opposite Daley Thompson on a long train journey once, seemed pretty normal, very professional.
  • Also spotted Alexander Siddig a couple of times (DS9, GOT) he seemed v normal and reasonable.

Said colleague has also encountered Kevin Spacey (contrary to other reports a total arse and on more than one occasion too) and Jeff Goldblum who was a total gem.

GladysTheGolem · 20/04/2015 00:01

Wiener, sad to hear Barrie is a twat!

SistersofPercy · 20/04/2015 00:05

Maybe Chris Barrie was having an off day? As I said upthread had a long conversation with him today at the end of a con about the problems of stormtrooper armour and he was genuinely lovely, fascinated by our kit and happy to chart despite us not purchasing anything from him.

WienerDiva · 20/04/2015 00:07

Oh Gladys, he was horrendous. I was on Live and Kicking as a child (totally outing myself), with a friend and he was there because of The Britas Empire (I think). Anyway I was allowed to go into the green room after filming because my friend's mum knew the floor manager. Anyway, Jon Barrowman and Emma Forbes were lovely, Andi Peters was tolerant of us (fair enough) and Trevor and Simon are the true legends that children of the 80's believe they should be!

Chris Barrie was fucking horrid to us when we asked for a photo and continued to chat up the poor young lady that was a runner (I think) and got pissed. Cockwomble!

WienerDiva · 20/04/2015 00:09

Sorry Sisters, I didn't see your post. I did meet him about 20 years ago and even now my friend's dm goes on at how inappropriate his behaviour was. People do change though and hopefully he learned quickly not to do that.

herethereandeverywhere · 20/04/2015 00:09

Not a meeting but....re: Seb Coe: I was at the Sports Personality of the Year just after the 2012 Olympics. There was a whole section (right near the stage, next to all the famous sports people) for the Olympics volunteers - which was lovely in itself.

There was a part where Seb had to go on stage - for an award connected to his Olympic work. The TV people had him 'wait' over by the volunteers before he walked up to the stage with all the volunteers around him. As you can imagine they gave him an amazing reception - loudest and most meant cheers of the night (even more so that Bradley Wiggins who won SPOTY)

Seb was so moved - I'm not sure it came across on TV - but he was so humbled and on the verge of tears. Very emotional. It was lovely to see how much it meant to him.

judydoes · 20/04/2015 00:11

I haven't met Charles Kennedy but I had a lengthy telephone conversation with him through work and he was lovely, despite the company I represented being quite clearly in the wrong, he was very polite and amiable and sounded drunk

The Terrorvision guys, not that famous but back in the day they were more so and they're lovely. I was a mega fan then, and in a restaurant Tony asked me to take a picture of them all in a restaurant. I was 16 underage in a bar and my hand was shaking with star strike!

AnnagrammaHawkins · 20/04/2015 00:19

Alex Reid - knob of huge proportions. Was via the phone not f2f but used the phrase "don't you know who I am" and demanding special privileges.

Naomi Campbell - again on the phone, lovely.

An old liverpool footie player callied dave something or other is a regular in my current work place and he's lovely.

Johnny Vegas has been lovely 3/4 times including when my friend literally fell over him and onto his lap haha.

The wanted (boy band) - all friendly enough, good laugh.

Zp theart (the old dragonforce singer) - absolute sweetheart. Just casually walked down the street and entered through the front door one night for their concert with no security or anything. Didn't purposely draw attention but was happy to chat and pose with everyone who noticed he was there.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 20/04/2015 00:22

Can we start a support thread for people who haven't met Anthony Head? Obviously there won't be many of us on it, but still.

I lived next door-but-one to Derek Jacobi for a bit. Was invited to a party once but didn't go. Oh and I knew Kate Beckinsale as a kid, but we didn't go to the same school so that friendship went nowhere.

Gregg Wallace is truly horrible.

IrmaGuard · 20/04/2015 00:23

Julian Barratt couldn't have been more lovely to my star struck and massive Boosh fan teenage daughter. He was super pleasant and kind to her.

A friend who has had dealings with the Beckhams won't say a bad word about them. Lovely people, apparently.

And yes, some people have bad days, and I have seen people be spectacularly rude to well known people - shouting out at them or sticking camera phones in their faces so sometimes you can't blame them for being 'off'.

JohnCusacksWife · 20/04/2015 00:25

Can I stick up for Michael Palin? I met him when he did a book signing at a bookshop I worked in and he was very shy but unfailingly polite. I did get the impression he found the whole thing quite awkward and I remember wondering how such an apparently introverted man became a comedian. But he was lovely.

BackCrackandNappySack · 20/04/2015 00:33

I wish someone would say to me 'Do you know who I am?' So I could stare at then quizzically, and then go 'Er…no.'
