Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

Nooooo not Norman wisdom sad, as a child I watched all his films and wanted him to be my dad.

Did you meet him when he was older? I think he had dementia if I remember rightly in his later years.

No, this was over 30 years ago. He was opening a school fete that my town band was playing at and he was just horribly rude to everyone, the band kids included. My dad loved him too and even he thought he was an arse.

mumteedum · 19/04/2015 22:55

Bryan Adams was very nice and polite to all waitresses who were giggling madly in bistro in Paris. Then was rather sweet and normal to me at the starstruck staff forgot our order in the excitement!

He was speaking highly of Courtney love.

Friend of mine has also met Bryan may and Anthony head and says both were lovely. Separate occasions mind you. Smile

PuntasticUsername · 19/04/2015 22:55

I met Nick Owen (from off of Anne and Nick) at uni and he was a proper creep. Made lecherous remarks to me and my female friends; completely ignored the males. Hoick-pew.

WhamBamSpam · 19/04/2015 22:55

I've worked for Bono on three occasions. he is a very nice, surprisingly quiet guy. you wouldn't believe how often people come into his face without so much as an "excuse me". I'm not at all surprised he gets shirty some times. People can be so intrusive. I also think people love to believe he's a wanker, when he's not really.
I also know van Morrison through a work thing and he is incredibly painfully shy. He cannot bear people recognizing him and hassling him in public. He finds it really stressful and do comes across as gruff, arrogant etc

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/04/2015 22:57

Not when I met him Starchild. He was a complete douche. And that was backstage, not with the Great Unwashed. Very rude to a very nice staff member. And not very handsome.

Koalafications · 19/04/2015 22:57

Christine Bleakley was lovely. She came to our church fete as a guest and was utterly gorgeous and really likeable.

AlmaMartyr · 19/04/2015 22:57

Joffrey - DS once pushed Jennifer Saunders out of the way to get to cocktail sausages in the supermarket and she was very gracious about it. He was very little at the time!

I have heard amazing things about Anthony Head too, just to add to the chorus.

ilovesooty · 19/04/2015 22:58

The late Merlyn Rees (Labour Home Secretary) saw me at an MP's surgery. Thee years later he visited the school I taught at and made a beeline for me to ask how I was. After Labour lost the election he was at his surgery the next day. Lovely man.

A friend of mine had a college job as a waitress and was assaulted by the late Bernard Manning who put his hand up her skirt. She was threatened with the sack when she tried to complain.

Amber76 · 19/04/2015 22:58

Friends of mine lived next to Graham Norton years ago and they said he was lovely.

I used to work in a restaurant that was opposite a big performance venue so we would get lots of known people in but the one who stood out to me was Damien Rice. He was in eating one evening before his performance across the road. A girl approached him and said that her friend (who was with her but stayed at her own table) was a huge fan and could he chat to her for a minute? He went over to the girl and stayed talking to her for 20/30 mins - people who had tickets for his show were walking out the door and looking over at them.! The girl had been very badly injured in a car crash and had lost her sight. Her engagement ended and she had been going through a very bad time in life - she loved his music. He listened to her properly and was just a very decent person.

Dieu · 19/04/2015 22:58

That doesn't surprise me about Nick Owen. I had the same feeling even as a kid watching that show. Used to always smarm up to the female guests.

Bluestocking · 19/04/2015 22:59

I've heard some very disturbing things about what Marilyn Manson has on his rider.

Van Morrison is someone whose music I love but as a person he is just a horrible man. He isn't just shy, he's vile. I would say more but I might get sued.

Dieu · 19/04/2015 23:01

Christine Bleakley seems very down to earth, I agree.

God, I am much too over-invested in this thread. Must be my most contributed so far Blush

Met tons of celebs and not many I can think were horrid.
Arnie - huge, bumped into him whilst going back into a restaurant I'd just left. Was a gent.
Steve Martin- my pure favourite, came into the restaurant I worked in, made me laugh.
John Hurt- gent
Robbie Williams- drug days but was lovely.
Keith Allan- bonkers
Daman from blur- was wasted .
Richard E Grant- perfectly lovely and gracious.
Joan Collins- like a little doll and could not stop looking in the mirror.
Melvyn Bragg- handsome and flirty.
Patrick Stewart- awesome
Nigel havers- handsome and very polite
Stephen Fry- when he'd come back from disappearing, looked nervous but happy.
Mick jagger- made me giggle was a gent too.
Jack Nicholson- arsehead (not a surprise)
Too many more. Roger Moore was very pompos.

Starchild28 · 19/04/2015 23:04

Mine was backstage too MrsTerryPrachett, maybe he was having a good day, who knows!

Figster · 19/04/2015 23:04

I met Damian Lewis about 10 years ago just after band of brothers came out he indulged me being a bit of a crazy drunk gibbering fan wearing a brownies tee shirt had a nice chat and a hug and a photo (whispers .....I love you Damian). Was a bit more sober second time I met him a few days later lovely bloke

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/04/2015 23:05

Goes back to the whole 'they are just people' thing, Starchild. I had a small crush on the person he was rude to so that may have coloured my judgement.

squoosh · 19/04/2015 23:06

Rod, Jane and Freddy and the krankies were all lovely but very energetic!

Grin

The Krankies are known for their energetic swinging aren't they?

exactchange · 19/04/2015 23:06

Met Jimmy Saville at a health spa about 20 years ago. I was a cleaner and had just finished hoovering the dining room so went to the bar for a glass of water (as we did back then). He was getting a drink and started chatting and told me I should get the rest of the day off. Told my mum who worked at the same place and she warned me off him, even then.
Also met Nick Frost while he was filming The Worlds End in our town, he was absolutely charming and happy to sign an autograph. It being February he told us to go get warmed up, couldn't have been nicer. The other guys from the film were there as well and they seemed decent enough, Martin Freeman signed for people as well and I heard Simon Pegg was lovely to a fan who had waited four hours for him!
Tom Baker was sweet and just as eccentric as you might expect :)

WizardofSnoz · 19/04/2015 23:06

Another vote for Paul McCartney and his vile daughter Stella. Awful, awful people who believe they are better than the rest of humanity and deserve constant adulation.

Aiden Gillen is absolutely adorable.

Samantha Morton is a twat. Always stripping off, keep your clothes on I don't want to see to see your minge.

Phil Oakey is lovely and v handsome.

Jacana · 19/04/2015 23:07

Final thumbs up for Victoria Beckham. I've written this before on another thread but I was once bumped from the Sardine Section to Business Class on a USA-Lon flight and she and her 3 boys were in there, obv.pre daughter time.

She was great and so much nicer to look at when she wasn't posed like in her pics. Smiled and laughed a lot. The boys were v. well mannered tho disappointed when they came back from a walk about saying there was "no one on the plane",meaning no-one of their age to play withSmile. VB disappeared off to the loo as the plane started its descent saying she'd got to change into her 'work clothes', she was wearing sweats, and reappeared wearing trousers, a top and high heels.

margaritasbythesea · 19/04/2015 23:07

Germaine Greer was entitled and rude.

Richard Madely was a bit of a cock but quite funny.

Baby Spice was gorgeous and lovely.

Tom Conti was a star. Very funny and self deprecating.

Terence Stamp was, let me just say, beautiful. Didn't talk tohim though but ... oh my ....

anxiousannie10 · 19/04/2015 23:09

I literally bumped into Craig Charles a couple of years ago coming out of a pub in Manchester. He had a good look down my cleavage and smiled, I was not happy.
