WIBU to phone the police?

My dsis phone at about 8:30am from a payphone crying and asking for money. I said yes she can borrow some and she said she would come to my house for it straight away. She hasn't turn up Sad I've tried phoning her kids mobile phones but they are all switched off and her landline has been smashed up.
I'm worried her partner has done something to her ( I have another thread about her abusive partner on here). When she phoned she was crying talking about killing herself and told me he had been violent again these past few days including this morning.

WIBU to phone the police to check on her? Would they do that? I don't want to waste police time.

Ring the police

HirplesWithHaggis · 18/04/2015 14:05

101, not 999, and yes, they'll do a welfare check in these circumstances.

WienerDiva · 18/04/2015 14:05

Please call the police

Paddingtonthebear · 18/04/2015 14:05

Christ yes call the police

PumpkinPie2013 · 18/04/2015 14:06

Yes, I would ring the police.
I hope your sister is ok x

Perfectlypurple · 18/04/2015 14:06

Yes they will do that.

EeyoresTail · 18/04/2015 14:07

Yes, call the police

notapizzaeater · 18/04/2015 14:07

I'd ring the police too and explain the circumstances, worse they can say is no.

cozietoesie · 18/04/2015 14:08

When you call the police, be sure to tell them all the circumstances. It would be unfortunate if they went there unprepared.

MissDuke · 18/04/2015 14:09

Yes, ring them. I am so sorry you are all going through this worry. Have you any other ideas where the kids could be? Can you go and ask neighbours if they know anything? Are they near you?

WowserBowser · 18/04/2015 14:11

Oh definitely phone them

LittleMissIntrovert · 18/04/2015 14:12

Yes ring the police, hope she is ok, how worrying for you Flowers

Lj8893 · 18/04/2015 14:13

Absolutely phone them and make sure they know the backstory. Hope she's ok.

LittleMissIntrovert · 18/04/2015 14:13

Oh and if you have the number from the pay phone that might be useful to them in working out where it is.

twirlypoo · 18/04/2015 14:14

Please call them as soon as you can, this situation definitely warrants it. I hope you have news of her soon Thanks

ihatelego · 18/04/2015 14:15

I'd phone them immediately and give all the details, hope she is safe.

itsallawry · 18/04/2015 14:25

Thanks for the replies. She doesn't live near me so I can't go and check on her myself ( tbh, I don't think it would be safe to anyway). I'm going to try phoning over the next 20 mins and if I can't get through then I will phone the police 101 number.
She did tell me this morning on the phone not to phone social services or anyone else. Will police going round there cause her any bother if it turns out she is OK?

Do 1471 to get the number of the payphone she was ringing from. The call box can be traced from the number.

ajandjjmum · 18/04/2015 14:30

How far away from you is she, if she was going to come round straightaway? Does it involve a significant journey?

Lweji · 18/04/2015 14:32

If you explain the circumstances to the police, maybe they can call on her house with an excuse, such as asking for witnesses for a possible local incident?

itsallawry · 18/04/2015 14:38

It only takes about 15 mins to get to mine on the bus ( bus stop is outside her house). It would take her maybe 40 mins to walk.
I have the payphone number.
The older kids are 14 and 13 so I hope they would have the sense to phone me if anything had happened. ( though they have started bullying her now aswell so they might not phone).

Please phone now op

Purplepixiedust · 18/04/2015 14:45

Yes phone the police OP. They should go and check on her. Doesn't matter that she told you not to phone anyone - just do it. Hope she is ok. Flowers

Purplepixiedust · 18/04/2015 14:48

To add, I am sure they will be perfectly fine about it if they turn up and she's fine x

Lweji · 18/04/2015 14:48

15 min on the bus is not that far. Can't you go and just see if she is there?
Keep it casual?
