I have nothing against the SNP but they have (obviously) got their own agenda.

I want the next government to put the UK first not Scotland.

Yabu. The will of the people will decide.

Andrewofgg · 09/04/2015 08:22

Entirely. When Nicola says she is trying to benefit the rest of the UK too she lies. She may not mean to - but she lies.

AICM · 09/04/2015 08:24

Pink
I see your point but in the event of a coalition the people don't decide. Deals are done that we have no say in.

Scotland's in the UK, your language is all wrong.

She's the leader of a devolved parliament within the UK, she has plenty of power and a lot to decide on.

Fine if you don't want to vote for her but it's very irritating to be claiming Scotland's not in the UK

RedToothBrush · 09/04/2015 08:25

I am fairly sure that in the event of a hung parliament the SNP won't form a coalition.

I think instead they will let a minority government take control and will do deals throughout the parliament that suit them instead.

Andrewofgg · 09/04/2015 08:27

The main parties should announce publicly that they will - if necessary by abstaining in the House - prevent the Scottish tail wagging the British dog.

AICM · 09/04/2015 08:27

Where did I say Scotland is not part of the UK?
Mu concern is that the Scottish National Party will care more about Scotland than the UK as a whole.

OP posts:
cookiefiend · 09/04/2015 08:29

In a democracy sometimes people you didn't vote for will get power. So for you the SNP are a concern, but for those of us North of the border UKIP and the Tories are a concern.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/04/2015 08:31

You mean you want the Snp to put England/Ni/Wales before Scotland?

No one ever calls for Cameron to put England before Scotland.'

We're a UK, and the bottom line is she doesn't just represent Scotland - she represents part of the UK within Europe.

AICM · 09/04/2015 08:32

UKIP is a concern of every intelligent person.

I

OP posts:
AICM · 09/04/2015 08:35

No I don't want the SNP to put England, Wales and NI before Scotland. Although nothing I have said implies that at all so I don't know why you accused me of that.

Yes you're right she represents part of the UK.

OP posts:
montysma1 · 09/04/2015 08:37

Then you dont wish Scotland to be part of the UK?
Because whilst they are and whilst they pay into the system then their democratically elected MPs have the same constitutional right to take full part in the governing of the UK. Are you suggesting that Scotland should not have full respre

lornathewizzard · 09/04/2015 08:39

What cookiefiend said.
If you believe that the 'major' parties have the whole of the UK's, and not just London and the SE's interest at heart, then you're misguided. At least if the SNP and other smaller parties have some say we might get some balance.

JanineStHubbins · 09/04/2015 08:42

Were there any such concerns when the Major government relied on NI Unionist votes?

Thought not.

AICM · 09/04/2015 08:44

I'm suggesting none of that - I'm sure you're intelligent enough to realise that.

The SNP will push for policies that benefit Scotland, that is their right. The government of the UK should push policies that benefit the whole of the UK. There will be times when these two line up and times when they don't. In the cases when they don't the friction between the two will not be in the best interest of the country.

Scotland is part of the UK, they aren't a colony! The scots have had plenty of tory goverments imposing policies they don't like on them in the past. In a coalition the SNP deciding english policy would be no different to Margaret Thatcher using Scotland to test out the Poll tax.

The scots have their own parliment to prevent them being the testbed for unpopular policies. The english need some kind of devolution asap. From what I have seen the SNP would not be unsympathetic to some kind of English devolution.

cookiefiend I think UKIP are a worry which ever part of the UK people live in.

StoorieHoose · 09/04/2015 08:44

And YET another SNP thread. Are the English really that feart that the part of the UK who pays tax just like the rest of the UK and actually put in more than they take out might actually have some influence in central government??

The Tories have 1 MP in Scotland yet we have to put up with their agenda

indyandlara · 09/04/2015 08:46

I did not want the Torys to form any part of the government. They have one MP in Scotland. However, other parts of the UK voted for them so I just have to suck it up. It's how it goes I'm afraid.

AICM · 09/04/2015 08:46

Janine am I allowed to answer your question?

OP posts:
BMW6 · 09/04/2015 08:46

i have a horrible feeling that the possibility of a Labour/SNP alliance running the UK will increase the UKIP vote........Shock

Christinayangstwistedsister · 09/04/2015 08:46

Stoorie

Couldn't have put it better

JanineStHubbins · 09/04/2015 08:46

Yes, please do OP.

AICM · 09/04/2015 08:48

The phrase 'suck it up' implies you weren't happy about the situation. Bit like me really.

OP posts:
ReallyTired · 09/04/2015 08:52

I think I marginally prefer a SNP coalition to a UKIP coalition. I don't want Britain to leave the EU.

Why are the English scared of SNP. Well its clear that some of the SNP truely hate the English. They would blame my five year old daughter for some blood thirsty battle/ attrocity that happened hundreds of years ago.

Actually I think that UKIP and the SNP have quite a bit in common. They blame people from a different ethnic group to themselves for their every day problems. Mr Farage will blame some random six year old Romanian child for lack of GP services/ jobs, where as Ms Sturgeon will blame my five year old daughter for all of scotland's problems. (maybe only 3/4 of scotland's problems as her grandfather is scottish!)

KidLorneRoll · 09/04/2015 08:52

Scotland - as quite a few people both sides of the border seemed quite happy about at the time - remain part of the UK, so I'm afraid the people who live there do deserve some sort of representation. If they vote in the SNP, it is their right to demand representation in parliament. Times change.
