Could I vote UKIP.... if it would regenerate my town?

We have a failing town, the last bank has left, we still have a post office, and a couple of other shops, and there is a little car park there, where they charge you as soon as you get there.

We (me and my friends) think that if it was free for a couple of hours we would go in and get stuff, maybe go to one of the cafes there, but no, as we can get free parking in the nearest (slightly bigger) town, we just go there.

I was talking to a local shop owner who is up for election on the local council - he said he wants to sort the parking, but cannot run on the lib/green/lab/cons side as they are all in the 'keep parking charges' for various reasons. He said he is going in as UKIP as he would never get in as an independant. I dont think i could bring myself to vote UKIP though....

Do NOT waste your vote. Local businesses and the locals telling any council how it is is enough to sort this parking problem out. We did in our localarea years ago with very little effort and now all the local shops library etc are happy as locals shop local.

I wouldn't dream of calling anyone a derogatory name nor would I think I was any "better" than them. This is why I don't "debate" on here. I have my view and others have theirs. It's fine with me.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 07/04/2015 22:16

Is there not one Kipper who can debate, argue with facts, use evidence and citations or respond to questions? Just ONE or is angry rhetoric their default setting?

Isn't it embarrassing to be a party who set the bar so low? I mean even the Tories have think tanks and academics.

chaya5738 · 07/04/2015 22:18

If parking becomes free then the council loses a source of revenue. Where is the parking fee money currently going - schools? parks? hospitals? If you want free parking then you need to think about were that money is now going to come from.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:20

There are people who "see" what's been happening over the last 5 years. I don't see it as an embarrassment not to want to "argue" though? What's academia got to do with peoples lives? Why do you have to state that bars are being set "low". Im not an academic and I have no wish to be part of a "think tank".

UncertainSmile · 07/04/2015 22:21

Grin @ Tondelayo

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:25

I am a normal joe blogs that sees what has been happening. Academia has got absolutely nothing to do with it. Hence a party being born out of all this load of crap really. Its sent to make "academics" see a real world again and I am very pleased about it and will watch the next election for the first time in the last 20 years with interest.

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 22:27

But what has been happening? People keep saying something has been happening but yet can never provide any evidence or anything to vaguely back up their claim and explain what it is that is happening.

BIWI · 07/04/2015 22:28

But what is happening daffs? You keep saying this but won't say what!

I don't want to argue with you, in the sense of having a confrontation, but I do want to know what your argument is actually based on. Nothing to do with academia.

UncertainSmile · 07/04/2015 22:28

You do realise that Alan Sked, who founded UKIP and was it's first leader, said about Farage:
"The de facto leader of Ukip since 1999 has been a racist political failure,

He has disowned the current party as being full of racist fruit-loops.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:29

Ah, do they have to though? Do "claims" have to be backed up. Sometimes things "just are". As ive said, there's a very due "shake up" going on and other parties are being "rattled" I say great.

UncertainSmile · 07/04/2015 22:30

Alan Sked ( UKIP founder, remember) has also said:

"The party I founded has become a Frankenstein's monster," sighs Sked. "When I was leader, we wouldn't send MEPs to Europe because we didn't want to legitimise it. My policy was that if we were forced to take the salaries, we would give them to the National Health Service – they wouldn't be taken by the party or individuals. Now Ukip say they're against welfare cheats coming from eastern Europe, but in fact they're the welfare cheats."

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 22:31

So something has been happening but you can't tell us what that something is? Is it a top secret something? Are only UKIP supporters allowed in on the secret?

UncertainSmile · 07/04/2015 22:31

Of course claims have to be backed up! Otherwise it's just bullshit based on supposition and rumours. Jesus wept!

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:31

Who care's where it originated from. It will be a good thing from where I sit.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:33

It will have an effect. It will control borders hopefully. For that sole purpose they have my vote.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:33

It already is..... Grin

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 22:34

Control borders at what cost though?

BIWI · 07/04/2015 22:37

Why is that, daffs?

Grantaire · 07/04/2015 22:39

daffs, do you care about health or education or social care or the environment or our economy?

I mean once we've controlled the borders (whatever that means), what do you imagine qualifies UKIP to manage the rest of the country? Or is immigration control the magic pill? Sort that and everything else will slot into place?

Can I please just ask you not to speak for white English working class people too? While we're here. In the same way that all immigrants are not whatever Farage perceives them to be or tells his followers they are, I am not what you're making out Joe Bloggs to be.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 07/04/2015 22:40

Borders are controlled - have you never been in or out of the country?

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:41

As I said before, I would not dream of going anywhere and expect a livelihood. I would work hard and try to integrate. This has not happened and normal joe blogs has had enough. UKIP has put the cat amongst the pigeons no matter what their "policies" are for that I am glad.

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 22:42

Which is exactly what most immigrants do.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 22:43

I speak for me and very many close to me, which is good enough in my book.
