Could I vote UKIP.... if it would regenerate my town?

AngelDreams · 05/04/2015 21:13

We have a failing town, the last bank has left, we still have a post office, and a couple of other shops, and there is a little car park there, where they charge you as soon as you get there.

We (me and my friends) think that if it was free for a couple of hours we would go in and get stuff, maybe go to one of the cafes there, but no, as we can get free parking in the nearest (slightly bigger) town, we just go there.

I was talking to a local shop owner who is up for election on the local council - he said he wants to sort the parking, but cannot run on the lib/green/lab/cons side as they are all in the 'keep parking charges' for various reasons. He said he is going in as UKIP as he would never get in as an independant. I dont think i could bring myself to vote UKIP though....

Morning all
Thanks for those who've reported.
As he unsurprisingly foresaw, Peter is now no longer a member of Mumsnet.

For those who wished the personal attacks to remain, we do completely understand why you wanted to do so and we haven't deleted all of his posts.
But there were some that we felt that they were really beyond the pale.

We would also caution with our politically neutral hat on, that one person does not a party make.

Peace, love and democracy dammit

MNHQ Please don't delete Peter's posts.
If possible, reinstate them with a note "kept at posters' request"

Sallyingforth · 08/04/2015 10:26

Crossed with MNHQ!

RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2015 10:34

Right!! I'm not happy!!!!

Mumsnet needs to close down at 10pm so I don't miss this stuff!!

It's not fair!!!!

UncertainSmile · 08/04/2015 10:56

I'm not doing nutter patrol tonight.

Sallyingforth · 08/04/2015 10:59

After all that excitement, we're back to talking about car parks again.
Boring!

BIWI · 08/04/2015 11:05

A shame that Peter's posts were deleted. Did anyone here, at whom the posts were directed, take offence?

Olivia - I quite agree that one person does not a political party make, but Peter was clearly here on behalf of UKIP - his cut and paste post is some evidence of that, plus the fact that the other thread he posted on he'd clearly searched for, as it was zombie thread from 2014.

I'm also wondering about daffs and whether or not she/he is a UKIP plant (no pun intended). I think there's going to be a lot of this over the next few weeks - some more obvious and less than subtle than others.

merrymouse · 08/04/2015 11:13

But what if all the parties are flooding the internet with pretend fuckwits to make the opposition look bad?

(Obv problem with UKIP is lack of sensible, intelligent examples for comparison)

Kampeki · 08/04/2015 11:16

A shame that Peter's posts were deleted. Did anyone here, at whom the posts were directed, take offence?

Not me. Grin

UncertainSmile · 08/04/2015 11:17

I didn't take offence. For all Peter's horrible misogyny, he obviously assumed I was female.

Icimoi · 08/04/2015 11:17

Well, perhaps we can confirm, for the record, that Peter was threatening to punch posters who didn't agree with him, and was telling others that for some obscure reason their failure to support UKIP meant they would be unable to find husbands and partners. This is the sort of person UKIP attracts, folks.

UncertainSmile · 08/04/2015 11:18

He obviously didn't RTFT, because earlier that evening I posted something that might have give him a clue.

UncertainSmile · 08/04/2015 11:22

One thing I've noticed about Kippers is when challenged they tend to get very frothy very quickly.

Kampeki · 08/04/2015 11:23

One thing I've noticed about Kippers is when challenged they tend to get very frothy very quickly.

I've noticed that too. I suspect that it's because they have no real substance to back up their arguments, so rather than engaging in rational debate, it's easier for them to just start frothing.

NoPsipsinaChocolateOrange · 08/04/2015 11:37

US - it was very funny that he thought you were a girl Smile I kept wanting to say something but it would have spoiled the fun.

BTW I don't think they are planted by anyone. To speculate thus makes us look a bit paranoid.

NoPsipsinaChocolateOrange · 08/04/2015 11:38

Daffs didn't froth, she was quite nice, but she clearly had only one motive for voting for them and didn't want to think about the other stuff, or indeed whether they would be any use at what she wanted them to sort out.

UncertainSmile · 08/04/2015 11:55

I knew that if I told him that I was a man, the next step would would be loads of homophobic stuff. I just couldn't be bothered. I sometimes wonder what these people are like in real life.

Grantaire · 08/04/2015 12:05

Oh I missed the personal attacks. What a shame.

UncertainSmile, I actually laughed out loud at Peter/peter calling you out on your inability to hang onto a man and your menopause. All his blustering and willy waving has turned him blind.

ArcheryAnnie · 08/04/2015 12:23

I didn't know UncertainSmile was a man, either, and am now in hysterics (I'm a woman, see, so hysterics are totally my bag) over US's menopause and inability to hold onto a man.

(UncertainSmile, if we are ever in the same location, I owe you a coffee for this glorious post: "Bye then, Peter. Tomorrow Belongs To You, and all that.")

And the rest of you - you are all bloody magnificent, too. I, too, am of the opinion that Peter's words of wisdom should be preserved for posterity.

And daffs I think you are probably a nice person who is feeling a bit beseiged here. Honestly, you'd have a much better time with the likes of us than with the likes of Peter. Do come back and chat! I bet we've got a lot more in common than you think!

BIWI · 08/04/2015 12:29

Yes, the failure to spot US as a man was classic Grin

NoPsips - it's not paranoid. It happened a lot around the time of the last election.

Grantaire · 08/04/2015 17:07

BTW, how are the plums today UncertainSmile?

DH had his vasectomy a little over a year ago and was in considerable discomfort for a while. Don't try and do what he did and get on a sodding push bike will you?

daffsandtulips · 08/04/2015 19:17

Ehhhhmm No I certainly am not a UKIP "plant" (how funny) just because I said I was going to vote for them? and yes, I am nice Grin

daffsandtulips · 08/04/2015 19:19

Im just so cross with the other parties at the moment and about the fact that a vast section of the population was practically muted. I do feel we are but mere pawns in a very big game.

Kampeki · 08/04/2015 19:24

I can understand your anger, daffs, and it is not invalid. However, I don't think UKIP is the solution.

daffsandtulips · 08/04/2015 19:27

I don't know what the solution is though do you? There are certain things that UKIP have proposed which have made the other parties take note on. This to me is a good thing no matter where it's stemmed from.
