Could I vote UKIP.... if it would regenerate my town?

We have a failing town, the last bank has left, we still have a post office, and a couple of other shops, and there is a little car park there, where they charge you as soon as you get there.

We (me and my friends) think that if it was free for a couple of hours we would go in and get stuff, maybe go to one of the cafes there, but no, as we can get free parking in the nearest (slightly bigger) town, we just go there.

I was talking to a local shop owner who is up for election on the local council - he said he wants to sort the parking, but cannot run on the lib/green/lab/cons side as they are all in the 'keep parking charges' for various reasons. He said he is going in as UKIP as he would never get in as an independant. I dont think i could bring myself to vote UKIP though....

Yes, of course she does, Jacobsmum. We all do. The OP asked us for our opinions and we are giving them. So what is your point?

AngelDreams your UKIP candidate can offer you the moon on a stick, but that doesn't mean he can give you what he's offering. There's a long road to him being elected (if he has a chance), and him delivering you free parking. You are depending on him making this a priority (will he really?), on him having support in the council (which you have already told us he doesn't), and him having the drive and organisation to get this through by himself (he will essentially be alone as UKIP are, well - "pretty disorganised" would be the politest way of putting it).

And if he does pull off this organisational and political miracle (unlikely), then what will you have gained? A few extra quid every time you want to park in town? What you will also have "gained" is giving recognition and kudos to one of the nastiest parties to emerge in a long time. They are sexist, homophobic, and racist. They will use their platform to further incite division, fear and hatred amongst people who should be working together. You know all this.

Is it really worth it?

Peter do you canvass for UKIP? Do you call people traitors on the doorstep if they don't agree with you? Do you think that's gaining you a lot of support?

What's your view on the British aristocracy? If they can trace descent back to the Norman conquest do you want them to go back to France, or do you have some other arbitrary timeline for acceptable and unacceptable immigration? Presumably you want Prince Philip to go back to Greece as well?

Although presumably you will not have any of your valuable UKIP time to answer this.

OOAOML, yes people do worry about the cost of parking, as its something else you have to pay out. Thats a bit of a waste of a question really, if i was worried about the cost of parking, then I would not have posted this thread in the first place?

And re my part of the country, I'm not far from Brighton, so YES parking is a bloody fortune - and if i'm going to buy something small like a birthday card, i dont want to double the cost of it, especially if i a) am not sure they sell them there, and b) i dont like any. Why dont I just drive down the road where I know i can definately get something, and not pay for parking - its not a difficult thought process?

(or not even go as far and give my money to Sains, oh and pick up some milk while i am out... etc)

Sorry you felt it was a waste of a question Angel I was just a bit bemused that it was such an issue. Then again, I don't know if your parking charges are comparable to public transport costs, petrol costs to get to the other town etc.

If that's the most important factor in deciding your vote, then yes you should vote for someone who can and will achieve it. But as others have said, one councillor is not going to change things, and there will need to be a majority of councillors who can vote this through. Then some other budget will be cut to pay for it.

Listen all, vote UKIP before it's too late. Ukip has nothing to do with being Racist. This is a slur by their opponents to put you off. It's become quite boring now how people keep dragging up the Racist card?

Charity begins at home and if there's any left overs, by all means share. This is what UKIP is about. Protecting British values and putting British people first.

Our forefathers fought and died in 2 World Wars to give us the freedoms that we have today.

Along with millions from every corner of the Empire, many of whose descendants live here. By 1945 the Indian Army alone was the largest volunteer army in history, numbering about 2.45 million men, and Jamaica, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Nepal and Tanzania to name just a few countries, also contributed troops to the war effort in both world wars in large numbers. Some of the people who came to Britain in mass imigration in the 1950s and 1960s were war veterans.

The 'forefathers fought and died' card is one that many many children and grandchildren of immigrants can also play. Before you shout about what you are entitled to, remember what you owe, and to whom.

peter Your views are abhorrent to me, but I would not, and will never, call you treasonous, because we live in a democracy and your rights to free speech are the same as mine. Your viewpoint that 'people who disagree with me' = 'the enemy, should be punished' smacks of a kind of society that our forefathers fought very hard to make sure we were never a part of.

I live in a UKIP target constituency. I am struggle with who to vote for because it will be a straight fight between the Tories and UKIP and I am by inclination a lefty pinko liberal - however in order to keep out UKIP I will need to vote tactically and, well,

And as for voting for an MP because his party allows free parking in a small town/village, well, if that's all you have to worry about then lucky old you. Personally my concerns are more for the NHS, education, environment and so forth.

Of course its not all i have to worry about, jeez, yes, thats all i worry about, i never think about the bigger at all, want to pat me on the head and say there, there while you're at it!

I think its more a question of do you vote for the whole party, or just the candidate? Maybe this candidate has other policies he wants to get out there, but feels he cannot acheive without standing under the UKIP banner, (maybe he's a liar and spotted my vom face when he said UKIP), i dont know
