Could I vote UKIP.... if it would regenerate my town?

We have a failing town, the last bank has left, we still have a post office, and a couple of other shops, and there is a little car park there, where they charge you as soon as you get there.

We (me and my friends) think that if it was free for a couple of hours we would go in and get stuff, maybe go to one of the cafes there, but no, as we can get free parking in the nearest (slightly bigger) town, we just go there.

I was talking to a local shop owner who is up for election on the local council - he said he wants to sort the parking, but cannot run on the lib/green/lab/cons side as they are all in the 'keep parking charges' for various reasons. He said he is going in as UKIP as he would never get in as an independant. I dont think i could bring myself to vote UKIP though....

PMSL Sally. Good point, he is just the advert for UKIP that we need :)

Grantaire · 07/04/2015 19:48

Oh no, he's gone. I was so looking forward to a battle of wits with the unarmed. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Och well. I'll have a bath instead.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 19:49

Im siding with UKIP also. It's my prerogative and my vote. As has been said, they're really rather popular despite all the negative press. I wonder why (grin)

SwedishEdith · 07/04/2015 19:49

I think Peter? is a Plant for every other Political Party in the uk?

Grantaire · 07/04/2015 19:54

daffsandtulips, I don't wonder why UKIP are (mildly) popular. Same as I don't wonder why Jeremy Kyle is on the television or why the Daily Mail is still in circulation. We know you're out there, tilting at windmills. Grin

Come back peter? We were Just getting Started.

RufusTheReindeer · 07/04/2015 20:02

I wouldn't mind....I'm not even a leftie Sad they wouldn't have me Sad

Went to boots and had one of those No 7 skin shade tests (wheat FYI) is that what they will use when they decide what country we should go back to

I would like to go somewhere with better weather...but I have a horrible feeling he would make me stay here

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:09

I really don't know why I am not allowed to have my view without people suggesting that because that's what I'm going to do I'm lumped with being a Jeremy Kyle watcher or a "closet" Daily Fail reader. I do neither of these things.

Yes, I'm English working class, doesn't mean I'm scum, nor does it mean I'm a racist to vote for UKIP.

NoPsipsinaChocolateOrange · 07/04/2015 20:12

So why are you voting for them, because that's exactly what they are.

Grantaire · 07/04/2015 20:16

daffsandtulips, you misunderstand me. I was listing things I find ridiculous and sometimes dangerous yet still popular with large numbers of people. That's my opinion on UKIP too. My point was I don't need to wonder why they are popular. I'm quite aware that people have vastly different opinions to me.

You can vote for who you like. If you truly, in your heart, know that you fully understand what you are voting for and know that it is sincerely the best thing for your fellow humans, then I can't counter that. I can't agree with it either but I shouldn't think you'd like my political ideologies either.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:19

I think we may have moved on from that. I do want Britain back for the British. I wouldn't dream of going to another country and demanding a thing. I would work hard, try to integrate and hope for acceptance. Over the last few years I have seen an almost blanket suffocation of what British means. I, like many many thousands of others have had enough of it.

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 20:28

What is British though? How does someone prove their Britishness?

Grantaire · 07/04/2015 20:29

What do you mean by Britain back for the British? I'm not being facetious but I've no idea what that means.

A "blanket suffocation"? Really? I live in a county which is 97% white people, 93% British people. Honestly, I go weeks and weeks and weeks without seeing a non white, non British person. Can you really claim a blanket suffocation? Where are your statistics for this?

Do you know what Farage will actually DO in terms of immigration? Do you know how this differs to what other leaders will do? Do you know what the effects will be? Do you know what this will mean for people who have emigrated from Britain?

What do you think of UKIPs plans for anything outside of immigration?

NoPsipsinaChocolateOrange · 07/04/2015 20:32

Yes but even if you are correct and something is wrong and needs to be done, which I really can't be sure it is, or does, but anyway...can you not see that UKIP isn't the answer?

They are not going to be able to do anything as they have no genuine policies. All they are is a lot of far right racist ignorami who are riding on a bit of public opinion, they are jumping on a bandwagon, that's all they are capable of.

They are dangerous. And stupid which is never a good combination, and not something you want to give any power to.

People can't seem to see that. The same demographic that never took voting seriously or understood politics, has now grabbed their vote by the horns and is using it to back these complete fuckwits.

THAT is what scares me. The Daily Mail readership is voting for them en masse. You're welcome to join them but it is a very, very foolish thing to do.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:39

That is your opinion though NoP isnt it. I feel that things have become so extreme that something needs to be done. I don't think they will get it but will make other parties listen to the fact that something does need to be done here. Borders do need to be "controlled" now. Mass Immigration has created this.

I want to be able to say I'm English and proud of the fact. I don't want to be hushed up and called a racist anymore for this.

My niece was called white trash this weekend and punched in the face for being 21 and wearing a short skirt and heels.

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 20:41

Because supporting a party that wants to create a "them against us" situation is really going to help isn't it!

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:41

I remember no one was allowed to even speak about immigration a year or so ago. I remember people being told to not fly an English flag either. It's enough.

BIWI · 07/04/2015 20:42

But what does 'British' mean? I'd have a lot more respect for anyone making such a claim if they can define it.

And what does 'blanket suffocation' mean?

What are you so frightened of?

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:43

People who have come here have done the "them against us" thing. People who have come here have demanded, very few have tried to integrate with English culture. Do you not realise this? I find that very naive.

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 20:43

And who exactly told you not to fly the English flag? Every time there is a big sporting event there seems to be loads her so obviously the memo about that got lost somewhere

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:44

Ok, English. Was even to scared to type that word until I was pushed here. Do you not see this?

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 20:44

I think your the naive one to judge all immigrants on a tiny minority of them.

BIWI · 07/04/2015 20:45

My niece was called white trash this weekend and punched in the face for being 21 and wearing a short skirt and heels.

By whom?

By a nasty, misogynistic thug, I'd guess.

Why does this support your claim?

How are things getting extreme? In what way? Where's your evidence for this exaggerated claim?

And nobody is hushing anybody who is proud to be English. I'm proud to be English as well. Or British actually - for some reason I prefer that, don't know why - but it doesn't mean that I have to fear anyone from another country. Why would it?

Sirzy · 07/04/2015 20:45

Ok then, what is English? How do you define it? What criteria does someone need to meet to be English?

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:46

I'm not naive nor am I thick scum. I see what I do being a working class English person.

BIWI · 07/04/2015 20:50

I don't think anyone has accused you of being thick scum, have they? Hmm

What is it that you 'see'? And what does your class have anything to do with it?
