How do you think they are going to 'end austerity'? How will this be financed? You can't just suddenly invest more in infrastructure etc to create more jobs if there is no.money.

If it is going to be financed by stopping trident, then we will lose US support - not really a good idea....

Labour are going to increase tax for higher payers, mansion tax etc in order to fund their investments.

I live in Yorkshire and we really don't get the support for SNP. They don't make sense to me, but as they seem to be so popular, please can someone actually why?

OP posts:
zippey · 04/04/2015 10:28

I'll be voting SNP.

SirChenjin · 04/04/2015 10:34

Who is surprised the SNP wsnt independece? Hmm
What people are surprised about is that despite the outcome of the referendum and despite their promise that they would respect the will of the Scottish people they continue to push for it. Wich raises the question - exactly what is their purpose?

SirChenjin · 04/04/2015 10:35

Excuse typos

TheChandler · 04/04/2015 10:36

I'm sure it matters to the people Tha vote for them CrystalCove.

Do you really think voting for the party that currently firms the government in your country, yet constantly being told you dont matter, you are stupid, a bit dim, misguided, dont exist, etc is plausible, never mind ethical?

I would say that rural was Scotland is very Conservative indeed. And that many of those running SMEs are too.

SirChenjin · 04/04/2015 10:46

I wonder - given the SNP's obsession with speaking for Scotland - if they will review FPTP and introduce a fairer voting system in Scotland? Grin

Therealyellowwiggle · 04/04/2015 10:57

I live in Scotland and won't be voting for the Silly Nonsense Party but then I am English
I am Northern Irish and will be voting for them. What has where you were born got to do with it?

ScotsWhaHae · 04/04/2015 11:03

Well they don't have the power to change the Westminster voting systems.

The Scottish parliament already uses a fairer more proportional system that has been in place since devolution in 1999.

[http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/visitandlearn/Education/16285.aspx Scottish parliament electoral system]

Which explains why the Tories have a greater presence in the Scottish parliament.

SirChenjin · 04/04/2015 11:03

Presumably because the SNP traditionally hasn't promoted itself as a great friend of the English and of England?

ScotsWhaHae · 04/04/2015 11:06

Link from last post

SirChenjin · 04/04/2015 11:06

Interesting...I must have missed the bit where the SNP have been pushing for a fairer voting system to ensure that all voters in Scotland are fairly represented.

ScotsWhaHae · 04/04/2015 11:06

In Westminster or Holyrood?

DowntownFunk · 04/04/2015 11:08

Silly Nonsense Party

Oh my sides - how long did it take you to think of that one?

SirChenjin · 04/04/2015 11:11

Either.

blowinahoolie · 04/04/2015 11:17

"We weren't first blowing the Welsh beat us to it!"

Fair do's Scots.

blowinahoolie · 04/04/2015 11:18

"You obviously missed the subsequent circular where I explained my error."

I think you'll find many other posters were wondering what you were about with that comment. I wasn't the only one to wonder...

SirChenjin · 04/04/2015 11:21

And those posts questioning what I was on about came before I explained the error and why it occurred. Perhaps you simply missed the subsequent circular - there's been a lot happening on this thread.

Clarabumps · 04/04/2015 11:23

I will be voting SNP as their previous history of balancing their books and moreover keeping their word on election promises. They have done a hell of a lot for the people of Scotland and until they fail on their promises I shall continue to vote for them.

Labour do not fill me with confidence and I am worried about the welfare cuts that the tories have planned and there is no clarification where these are coming from (probably from the disability fund). I don't believe Cameron will protect the NHS.

blowinahoolie · 04/04/2015 11:25

awaynboilyerheid also posted after you corrected yourself SirChenjin. So I wasn't the only one. Please stop picking on selected posters on a thread, it doesn't look good.

Clarabumps · 04/04/2015 11:26

I actually hate these threads, the amount of ignorant anti-Scots vitriol that comes out on them is depressing.

Behooven · 04/04/2015 11:26

Absolutely no way. They don't represent my views.

blowinahoolie · 04/04/2015 11:27

DC would like to see people with cancer get out there and get a job, just going by the nature of his policies. People who are disabled are going to get an even worse deal if the Tories get in for another term.

ScotsWhaHae · 04/04/2015 11:35

Don't know who I'm answering anymore but re voting systems, Nicola said it herself at her key speech to conference last week -

We'll push for a fair voting system to be back on the agenda

Which is a start!

She also spoke about democratic reform and the house of lords.

You can read the whole thing here if you wish.

No one is shouting about Electoral Reform in the run up to an election. Tory/Labour certainly won't, ever!

blowinahoolie · 04/04/2015 11:38

Scrapping the House of Lords is one of the best ideas ever. I am actually concerned that no one else has thought of this already tbh, when the UK is already in deep shit financially.

ScotsWhaHae · 04/04/2015 11:40

It's a disgrace we're ruled by an unelected group of people.

machair · 04/04/2015 11:42

Definitely NOT voting for SNP. After critisising Westminster for austerity cuts during the referendum year, turns out SNP gov had a massive underspend. Disgusts me that they did this for political gain.

They've also banned their MPs from speaking out against the party.

The state guardian for children also gives me the creeps. As my DA (retired teacher) was saying, it's a way in for paedeophiles,
