To think it is ridiculous that Katie Hopkins is being investigated by police for her tweets.

I'm no fan of Katie but if I'm honest I don't think she should be investigated by police.

Bob Dylan summarised what I feel about KH.

"And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead."

limitedperiodonly · 03/04/2015 16:57

why don't people say what they want at work, for example?

Because codes of conduct at work or on private property are different to criminal law.

I think everything I've heard come out of her mouth is so fucking muddled that I can't even understand her point, let along consider picking it apart with a view to prosecuting her for hate crimes.

My personal view is that though the intention behind hate crimes is good, the practice is not.

Pursuing her in a criminal court would be a waste of energy and might risk a jury acquitting her.

Can you imagine the column that week? Dancjuk is a fuckwit for getting involved.

OrlandoWoolf · 03/04/2015 16:57

I think that's a bit harsh.

I have no time for her but do not wish death on her. I just want her to become irrelevant, reviled and not to have her voice and opinions listened to. Something to happen where she goes too far. Someday that will happen. I want that day to come soon and I want it to hurt her - like she's hurt so many people in the past.

She has upset so many people on "the way up" that no one will be there when she falls. I hope it's a long fall and she reflects on her behaviour.

UncertainSmile · 03/04/2015 17:05

It won't happen. Her schtick is getting her more and more work. She upsets people, really upsets people. This shit about depression is just the latest. If she can have the free speech to say what she wants, then I have the freedom to hope that she slowly rots from the inside.

limitedperiodonly · 03/04/2015 17:39

She upsets people like you. I'm not saying that you're wrong to feel that way, but you are overestimating her importance.

She is of no importance and no influence. The people she appeals to are the people who would say 'it's political correctness gone mad' and ' you can't say anything these days'.

But I don't even know how that far goes because she's made it clear that she despises many of those people as 'chavs'. So really, how big is her constituency?

It's not like she's Jeremy Clarkson, who I imagine you dislike just as much. Then The Sun offloads her, can you imagine a single person signing a petition for her?

What protects Clarkson is that he's a man and a certain type of man - the ultimate insider posing as an outsider.

Ironically, Katie Hopkins is the kind of woman who would say sexism is all in the fevered imagination of hairy-legged feminists.

Normally I wouldn't. But in her case I won't rush to the barricades Wink.

merrymouse · 03/04/2015 17:56

I agree about Clarkson - he is very well connected.

Looking at what KH tweeted about politicians last night, she just seemed to be pouring out insults hoping something would get quoted by the papers the next day - and she succeeded.

I don't get the impression that she changed anybody's opinion - I think she just confirms/excuses/endorses existing opinions.

I also suspect that when she does turn up to GMTV to be rent a gob she is professional and possibly nice to the people who pay her and that is why she is asked back. However I don't get the impression that she has anybody who will leap in and save her if her ship goes down.

merrymouse · 03/04/2015 18:01

Although 'opinion' is probably too strong a word to describe her tweets - I don't think she could talk through the any party's manifesto and explain in detail exactly what her thoughts are on any policy.

UncertainSmile · 03/04/2015 18:30

TBH, Clarkson doesn't bother me. He's a very good presenter. KH is just an oxygen thief, she can't do anything apart from being vile.

UncertainSmile · 03/04/2015 18:31

However I don't get the impression that she has anybody who will leap in and save her if her ship goes down.

I'd be the one with my foot on her head.

OrlandoWoolf · 03/04/2015 19:27

The thing is - it's her kids I feel sorry for and always have. Yes - she can no doubt provide them with a good life and a good education.

What price though? She has "thoughts" on so many things that affect real people. Her children might well get depression, become overweight or...fall in love with someone who has ginger hair. Or - children who are aware of their mum's history might well avoid them like the plague and bully and tease them. I think they are nearly secondary school age. Unfortunately, their mum has made them obvious targets for children who belong to groups she has abused.

That's wrong. I wonder if KH is aware of how her actions will affect her children or is she so full of herself and her narcissistic sense of importance she just can't see that.

limitedperiodonly · 03/04/2015 19:40

I've met Katie Hopkins in a professional capacity.

She was pleasant enough company, reasonably amusing and bright but it began to wear towards the end of the day.

She is a desperate people-pleaser. She wanted to please me because she thought it might take her somewhere. That's not what I was there for but she's made other contacts.

Of course it's a way of making a living. But ultimately she is a sad people-pleaser who will do or say anything to curry favour.

She is a gibbering fool, more to be pitied than hated.

One day the music will stop.

limitedperiodonly · 03/04/2015 19:40

I meant to add: and she'll find herself without a chair.

limitedperiodonly · 03/04/2015 19:57

Clarkson doesn't bother me

I think if you're bothered about Hopkins then I don't see why you're not bothered about Clarkson because he's much more popular and has much more influential friends and a more loyal readership and viewer profile.

About 25 years ago I used to read his column in a car magazine. I can't remember what it was called now. DH, then boyfriend, used to buy it. For me it was the best bit in a very dull magazine.

His column was only nominally about cars and was very amusing. But I used to switch off when he droned on about his political views and obsession with Princess Di and Kristin Scott Thomas. He's continued the habit and that's why I never really warmed to Top Gear.

He's not a bear of big brain. Katie Hopkins is a bear of even smaller brain.

That said, I still don't think Clarkson is going to swing the election.

Wow I'm amazed that Wet states that posters disagreeing with KH and her form of gutter bigotry are fascists!

I think everyone with a brain cell knows which side the bigots are aligned with.

ChoochiWhoo · 04/04/2015 12:37

Good!

JoffreyBaratheon · 04/04/2015 12:56

Those who live by the sword, die by the sword. And when she failed on The Apprentice (and presumably failed as a businessperson in her own right) being a hate-spewing Rentagob, was a career option. But she doesn't come across as particularly bright, and probably should have armed herself with a working knowledge of the laws re. malicious communications and hate crime before she embarked on a 'career' sailing close to those lines.

I thought her behaviour on Big Brother was very telling - she was clearly trying to fabricate a narrative casting herself as 'a softie at heart' whilst also, patently, not being that at all. I think she has taken on a role she doesn't really have the emotional (or actual) intelligence to negotiate.

She is a hate-filled, negative person who will eventually bring herself down with her own bile. If not this time - next time.

And of course, whilst she seeks to exploit other people's misery - hopefully, she is creating her own.

WetAugust · 04/04/2015 17:00

uncertainsmile You said you feeling towards Hopkins are 'I hope you die'

Loving the tolerance on this thread.

Remember, hoping someone dies is only one stage away from making a person die.

That's what fascists do.

UncertainSmile · 04/04/2015 17:01

Remember, hoping someone dies is only one stage away from making a person die.

Eh?

UncertainSmile · 04/04/2015 17:03

I hope IDS dies. I'd quite like Nick Griffin to pop his clogs too. Doesn't make me a serial killer or a nazi.

UncertainSmile · 04/04/2015 17:03

I was quoting a Dylan lyric. Is he a fascist too?

Icimoi · 04/04/2015 17:03

Hoping someone will die is only one step away from killing them? On what plant, Wet?

limitedperiodonly · 04/04/2015 17:17

Irritable Duncan Syndrome will die, as everyone does, so uncertainsmile isn't wishing any unusual fate on him.

I can't help but hope that when his time comes it is after a long period of worklessness and failing health during which he has been required to account for his unemployability and submit to humiliating tests on his fitness to work, which he inevitably fails.

I hope he spends his final days contemplating the devastation of his family fortune by the fees of a private care home in which his meagre rations are placed just a finger-tip out of reach by an uncaring orderly working for less than the minimum wage, which will of course have been abolished.

I think that's only fair. We're all in it together, after all.

OrlandoWoolf · 04/04/2015 17:17

Wishing death on someone is not on.

Personally, a slow fall from grace and public humiliation is what I hope for. And then a realisation that all she has said will come back at her. And that no one is there for her. I want her to realise the hate she has caused and to feel that hate and for it to hurt her. She deserves no less than that.

UncertainSmile · 04/04/2015 17:19

As I don't believe in an afterlife, I want the likes of IDS and KH to get their comeuppance in this one. I like your thinking, limited.
