To think it is ridiculous that Katie Hopkins is being investigated by police for her tweets.

I'm no fan of Katie but if I'm honest I don't think she should be investigated by police.

And she's a twat.

WetAugust · 03/04/2015 00:04

You have no right NOT to be offended. Stop pretending you do. And stop being so utterly unpleasant by telling people to 'shut up'. It just highlights the very poor quality of your argument.

JudyK61 · 03/04/2015 00:05

Sorry- I have to disagree with the poster. She is inciting racism. There are many statistics anyone of us could cite to support a one sided skewed view of things such as statistically more white men get sent to prison for sexual crimes. Read this:
fullfact.org/factchecks/race_and_sex_offences-27153ual crimes than other ethnic groups. The table from 2007 is a good insight - and although out of date the huge difference in percentages makes the point clear.

monkeysaymoo · 03/04/2015 00:10

Eh? that doesn't even make sense. Shut up

She is not just racist, she is inciting hatred towards lots of other people like people on benefits, fat people, anyone with mental health problems etc

The amount of people who think she is great and is just being honest makes me feel sick at how easily people are manipulated.

PigletJohn · 03/04/2015 00:57

Perhaps she works on the same business model as the Daily Fail? Deliberately publish lots of goady, stupid, extremist and lying stories to get the web page count up, and increase advertising revenue?

bakingnovice · 03/04/2015 09:23

Depressing that Wet thinks it's 'utterly unpleasant' to tell KH to shut up but doesn't find anything KH says utterly unpleasant.

You do realise wet that those of us offended by KH have as much right to express it as KH does to offend. Or do you only uphold the right to free speech when the opinions presented are abhorrent?

Icimoi · 03/04/2015 11:04

WetAugust, you seem to have a problem with basic English. Expressing the view that someone should shut up does not in any way deny free speech. No-one is ordering Katie Hopkins to shut up, not least because none of us have the power to do so. It is perfectly legitimate to express the opinion that someone should have the sense and indeed the basic morality and humanity not to express vile views like these. If you want to stop people expressing that opinion, it is you who are denying free speech.

What is ironic is that, when you say things like "You have no right NOT to be offended. Stop pretending you do. And stop being so utterly unpleasant by telling people to 'shut up'", you are doing precisely what you claim to deplore in others.

There are rules about harassment and hate speech e.g racial and religious hatred act 2006, hence why people report KH to the police. Whether or not she will be prosecuted is another matter.

However, you can't just go around saying any old thing about anyone on line. It is against the law.

merrymouse · 03/04/2015 11:13

Just seen what she tweeted about milliband. Has she been disablist before or is she exploring new avenues?

What a depressing way to earn a living.

merrymouse · 03/04/2015 11:15

Could labour use that as a campaign pledge - vote for us in and Katie Hopkins will leave?

limitedperiodonly · 03/04/2015 12:04

Could labour use that as a campaign pledge - vote for us in and Katie Hopkins will leave?

They could but it would be unwise. As far as I can see Ed Miliband has ignored her and should carry on. Simon Danczuk is mad to get into a spat with her. David Cameron was mad to be pictured with her.

I realise that you might have said that tongue-in-cheek Wink

BishopBrennansArse · 03/04/2015 12:11

Oh yay. Third bout of disablism. "try and act off the spectrum"

She should "try fucking right off"

WetAugust · 03/04/2015 12:24

Some utterly bigoted bordering on fascist views on here.

If it's legal she should be allowed to say whatever she wants

Some of you are very determined to silence those with whom you disagree

If you don't like what Katie Hopkins is saying then stop listening to her.

BeyondRepair · 03/04/2015 12:51

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/apr/02/britons-held-in-turkey-for-trying-to-enter-syria-could-be-deported-immediately

^ So Rochdale council with disgusting record on protecting vulnerable girls from racist and targeted attacks - while the COUNCIL turned a blind eye now has a Councillors whose son has run off to join ISIS.

BishopBrennansArse · 03/04/2015 12:54

Inciting hate isn't legal.

GratefulHead · 03/04/2015 13:03

"try and act off the spectrum"

She should try acting like a decent human being. Not sure this is possible though.

merrymouse · 03/04/2015 13:06

If it's legal she should be allowed to say whatever she wants

The point is that it may not be legal.

Yes, I was being tongue in cheek, limited.

Of course Ed Milliband shouldn't dignify Katie Hopkin's trolling by getting into a spat with her.

However, as a wider issue, she is a twitter troll using autism as a term of abuse. I am sure you could spend 1 minute on mumsnet and find 5 people "on the spectrum" who are more eloquent, intelligent and perceptive than Katie Hopkins.

To be honest, I think she may need mental health support as her desire for attention appears ultimately very unhealthy.

This is my main thought and I think that someone who thinks saying that a neurological condition - or whatever autism is - is an insult, while showing zero awareness of the defects in her personality is ironic.

She is undoubtedly well-remunerated for this stuff. But there will come a time, which I think is rapidly approaching, when The Sun drops her as a columnist because she is a liability. Everyone else will follow suit.

I don't think that what she's said so far is illegal, but that's for the CPS to decide. However, I do think that in her desperation to be more and more outrageous she is becoming embarrassing and potentially dangerous to be associated with.

News International and Associated Newspapers show no mercy in jettisoning people who are no longer useful.

UncertainSmile · 03/04/2015 14:35

Did I not read that she's got a job on some shit London radio station?

MistressDeeCee · 03/04/2015 15:24

If freedom of speech is fine and you can say what you want, then why don't people say what they want at work, for example? You curb your mouth on some opinions, because what you say could have a consequence. So you are exercising tact and caution in your "free speech". Despite that what you say may be perfectly legal, it could seriously offend and also impact upon you in a negative way if you were personal about someone, or negatively stereotypical about groups of people and felt a need to voice how you feel wherever you may be, just because "free speech is legal".

So why should KH be somehow given a free pass, and immune from any consequence? She is inflammatory and she isn't chatting amongst friends, she is speaking publicly.

Some people are being purposefully obtuse about what free speech really means, or how free we really are to speak out particularly when we are speaking on a mass-scale and what is said can stir up trouble.
