An interesting panorama program The Battle for British Islam,
It was said that its the extremists who are seeking to create a divide and how neutral if you like the UK is.

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b050nj0z

Just recently, I heard quite a few Muslims saying that it's strange how when a non-Muslim kills over a 100 people in an air crash, that is suicide, but when a Muslim does that (who has mental health problems too) it's terrorism

I don't see how in any way shape or form you can possibly compare the two. Unless your saying that all extremist Muslims, are mentally ill? There is an argument somewhere, that all people who fervently believe in religion are mentally ill.

YY Hidden I would rather resources went on sorting out our shameful record on child protection, abuse in case, those with LD etc the elderly and those who have no voice.

Time to stop pandering to those who shout the loudest.

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 28/03/2015 12:13

more I am not sure how much engaging we are supposed to do, we are one of the countries in the world, where you can believe and do pretty much want you want. The same cannot be said for many of the countries of origin where some Muslims come from.

We offer assulym, housing, money, free health, brilliant schools ( mostly) peace, and ability to go about ones business.
It seems to be emanating from some communities ( I could very well be wrong here, happy to be corrected) that Muslim girls musn't be like western girls.

That is divisive, how does that work?

If I go to Other Muslim countries, can I do the same? Get the same support?

HungryDam · 28/03/2015 12:18

Adsy, people that are seriously mentally disturbed can be 'religious' too. The two are not mutually exclusive.

adsy · 28/03/2015 12:19

I still want to know what form this "engaging" should take

HungryDam · 28/03/2015 12:20

Putting, those who can kill and murder without any justification are mentally disturbed. Which sane person would do that?

HungryDam · 28/03/2015 12:22

Adsy, it's simple really, just by talking! Having an open forum/discussion with young people, giving them the confidence and trust to resort to normal channels of communication and resolutions when it comes to political issues that they want resolving.

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 28/03/2015 12:25

what political issues do they want resolving hungry.

and why do they take or think they should take precedence over other groups as mentioned above?

Putting, those who can kill and murder without any justification are mentally disturbed Confused They are justifying it, with Islam.

Joyfulldeathsquad · 28/03/2015 12:25

hungry so should we hospitalise all murderers. Not actually imprison them but release them after they have 'recovered' as they are 'unwell'

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 28/03/2015 12:26

we should build more mental health hospitals to contain all islamic extremists, is that what you mean by reaching out?

PoisonPension · 28/03/2015 12:27

Mental illness and personality disorders are not the same thing.

adsy · 28/03/2015 12:28

The good thing about this country hungry is that all those forms of communication are open to everybody. Each person is welcome to tell their MP their opinion. People can hold public meetings and forum to discusss such things. It's free speech.
These people choose not to use such channels.
By "resolving" political issues, do you mean changing foreign policy in favour of what muslims would prefer, rather than what the democratically elected government has decided?

hiddenhome · 28/03/2015 12:31

They are servants of their god, they are doing his work, that is their justification.

People in a secular society totally underestimate just how powerful a religious belief can be and how strong a hold it can have on the mind of even a sensible, moderate individual.

PuttingouthefirewithGasoline · 28/03/2015 13:20

Just read article that implies police and mp's did not know about the fathers part in the rally nor the lawyers links to extremist CAGE.

Moreshabbythanchic · 28/03/2015 13:26

I am very interested to know why strict muslims come to our country and then want to continue the way of life they have left behind. Is it so they can convert us to become like them, do they think they are saving us from the sin of the western world or is there some other ulterior motive?

They seem to hate us and the way of life that we lead, dress and socialise. Why not continue to live in a muslim country where they can lead the lives they want to.

This is a genuine puzzle to me, if anyone knows the answer could they please explain.

blossomweary · 28/03/2015 13:33

One of the very troubling things is that imams are essentially quite powerless. In much the same way as parish priests are dependent on offerings and congregational donations, so imams have to toe a party line according to who gives the mosque the most money. If those giving the mosque the most money are conservative, Wahabbiist hardliners then the imam will say little in the way of condemnation of acts of atrocities. Which goes some way to explaining why the voice of moderate Muslims has been so quiet in the wake of these terrorist acts. They're there - in fact I pray that most Muslims are tolerant and reasonable - but a fair bit of the money to prop up a lot of these mosques is coming in from Saudi and elsewhere in the Middle East and they're not massive fans of progressive, tolerant voices.

PoisonPension · 28/03/2015 13:36

I think they hate us and our way of life. What they do like is the freedom to live as they like and the chance of their family doing well financially and educationally.

Joyfulldeathsquad · 28/03/2015 13:37

The police, goverment who ever is in charge of protecting us, had around 20 days to find out if their parents had links. That is ample time. They knew before the press conference apology. It's a PR stunt. It shows these people in an extremely bad light. Liars and untrust worthy.

HungryDam · 28/03/2015 13:41

Poison, who is 'they' you are referring to?

Joyfulldeathsquad · 28/03/2015 13:41

I don't think that's true for all Muslims poison but true of the radicalised. They want us to follow their views whilst being protected by our laws

PoisonPension · 28/03/2015 13:44

Answering Shabby as to why those who hate us and the way we live choose to live here.

I didn't say it was true for all that was your projection of my words to fit your agenda onto me.

HungryDam · 28/03/2015 13:44

It is extremely extremely unfair and dangerous to paint all young Muslim teenagers based on the actions of FIVE teenagers.

The anti-Muslim hate just on this thread alone is embarrassing.

Joyfulldeathsquad · 28/03/2015 13:46

Whi is doing that hungry?

PoisonPension · 28/03/2015 13:48

Hungry is chomping at the bit trying to interpret anything as racist and twisting a comment to man all when those words were not spoken.

NorahDentressangle · 28/03/2015 13:48

I think they hate us and our way of life. What they do like is the freedom to live as they like and the chance of their family doing well financially and educationally

Well, I'm pretty sure many immigrants move to the UK because their own countries are crap, and have no admiration of our way of life which is what we kept being told.
