Grin scraping the barrel there!

I truly believe that left wing nonsense is the biggest threat to women in the UK at the moment. Want to have a discussion about misogyny in Islam, you're racist

Tony Blair has an awful lot to ansa for, he has gagged an entire nation.

Thankfully I think Theresa May has come to say a huge crack down on Sharia?

The Home Secretary is expected to say that a future Conservative government target Sharia law, change the rules on granting citizenship to ensure people embrace British values and introduce "banning orders" for extremist groups.

Hillingdon · 28/03/2015 10:02

The issue in these current times is that one feels they need to be do careful what they say. Do best say nothing at all for fear of being accused of being a racist.

Fwiw - couple of ideas to throw out

  1. Investigate that school. Am not overly concerned if it upsets pupils and parents who are innocent. Don't tip toe around.
  2. Full deep dive into the families of these young people to try and see a pattern
  3. Do not allow communities to spring up where they bring their own laws and we turn a blind eye fot fear of offending
  4. You must learn English to enable you to support yourself. God knows how that is going to be done though.
  5. If you want to run away to ISIS you can go, your Britsh passport will be taken away. You will never be allowed to return.
  6. Get the Imans to come out and stand side by side with the UK government condemming these people until we are tired of seeing it. It becomes the norm and any behaviour line this will not be tolerated by people in the senior ranks.
Hillingdon · 28/03/2015 10:03

I quite like the look of Teresa May

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/8570506/Police-covered-up-violent-campaign-to-turn-London-area-Islamic.html

ictims say that officers in the borough of Tower Hamlets have ignored or downplayed outbreaks of hate crime, and suppressed evidence implicating Muslims in them, because they fear being accused of racism

The claims come as four Tower Hamlets Muslims were jailed for at least 19 years for attacking a local white teacher who gave religious studies lessons to Muslim girls.

The Sunday Telegraph has uncovered more than a dozen other cases in Tower Hamlets where both Muslims and non-Muslims have been threatened or beaten for behaviour deemed to breach fundamentalist “Islamic norms.”

One victim, Mohammed Monzur Rahman, said he was left partially blind and with a dislocated shoulder after being attacked by a mob in Cannon Street Road, Shadwell, for smoking during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last year

^ Something going on there. .

Moreshabbythanchic · 28/03/2015 10:08

I wish I could believe Theresa May, but she has had plenty of time to do something and only now when a general election is imminent does she promise to do something. Excuse me for being a tiny bit cynical.

I think TM is the only person capable of wanting to do something, after the mess Labour left us in, I would not trust any of them to get tough on this issue.

In fact if they come to power I expect to defend the poor Dad, give him some money and defend the un defendable.

Stealthpolarbear · 28/03/2015 10:25

where are the miuslim leaders? I'd really like a consistent message from the top - ? of e, Muslim, secular, we will not allow our county to be terrified by this

Hillingdon · 28/03/2015 10:31

Until it's not seen as racist to call out a certain religion and their views that don't match this country we will struggle. There are many threads on MN and certain well known posters who will cry racist anytime they like.

I like Nigel Farage, I wouldn't vote for him but he has picked up on something previous governments have failed to do.

HungryDam · 28/03/2015 10:50

The Muslim leaders and scholars have repeatedly spoke out very loudly and clearly against ISIS and terrorism. The problem is the media never picks it up, so you and I think they are not talking loud enough, when in fact they truly are and tbh probably fed up of constantly having to repeat themselves.

Nothing ever justifies joining or promoting the extremist ideology of ISIS. However, there is a deeper problem here and that is the government needs to engage more with those that appose parts of its foreign policy. There is also a huge issue of anti-Muslim hate and sentiment in the media, which is making some Muslims feel utterly isolated and like they don't matter at all (and there is some truth to that!)

Just recently, I heard quite a few Muslims saying that it's strange how when a non-Muslim kills over a 100 people in an air crash, that is suicide, but when a Muslim does that (who has mental health problems too) it's terrorism. Like it or not, there are some double standards when it comes to the way some Muslims are treated in the media and by the government (think about the blatant turning an eye against Assad's crime or Israeli crimes). What's great about British values is equality and justice, and we need to extend to the Muslim community too. I'm not saying that this justifies the extremist actions, far from it, but if we want to get the root of the problem, those issues need addressing too.

lem73 · 28/03/2015 10:54

We must stop giving asylum to anyone who gives any old bullshit excuse to come here. Jihadi John came here because his family were from some tribe which lived in Iraq and Kuwait and they said they were being persecuted. They came here, got housing and benefits and got themselves British passports. Yet they travelled freely to Kuwait. Jihadi John worked there for a while and his father is now living there. So why did we grant them asylum here? They clearly aren't being persecuted over there.
As a British citizen I feel insulted that we give our passports so freely to anyone and everyone and they have absolutely bugger all respect for this country. I don't think we should stop anyone going. They deserve whatever happens to them but let's find a way to stop them coming back.

adsy · 28/03/2015 11:06

the government needs to engage more with those that appose parts of its foreign policy
and how do you propose that would work? ask people what they think of their foreign policy then change it accordingly? That's not how it works.
There are many many non muslims opposed to many aspects of government policy but they don't behead people or run off to join anti western terrorist groups. No one from the government has ever asked me my opinion on foreign policy. Do you think government reps. should go into mosques and ask their opinion. You are so naiive.
I am so sick of people saying " I'm not saying what they are doing is right, but a lot of muslims are pissed off" This is justifying it. stop being apologists for religious nutters who want to kill non muslims. There is no reasoning with them.

a non-Muslim kills over a 100 people in an air crash, that is suicide the german prosecutor made a point of saying he wasn't classing it as suicide, but as homicide.

PoisonPension · 28/03/2015 11:06

Clearly JJ and his family don't need asylum, should lose their British passports and stay the Fuck out of England.

I feel for genuine asylum seekers, hurt by psychopaths who abuse the system. Maybe a test for antsocial personality disorder is required for those requesting asylum?

Stealthpolarbear · 28/03/2015 11:14

anks hungry, that's really good to hear. as you say they're not picked up by the media, meaning people like me who looks on bbc news now and again don't see it. can see why mail wouldn't report but I'd expect better of the bbc

MistressMia · 28/03/2015 11:15

Hungry on the last thread about this subject I gave some examples of the extremist's theological justifications, that sit parallel to the moderate leaders assertions of all these actions being 'against Islam'.

So while you are correct in saying that the Islamic leaders have spoken out, it makes no difference if they do, if another lot of Imams are equally validating the extremists interpretation.

Your arguments are the same espoused by Cage, MPAC et al. It's all our fault and nothing to do with ideology.

HungryDam · 28/03/2015 11:22

Mistress, there are very very few Muslim scholars who would even attempt to justify ISIS actions. Less than 1% in my estimation.

The British ISIS supporters have a political issues and a political cause, that they are disguising under the name of the religion. If we want to seriously solve the problem, we need to somehow engage with then politically with the issues that are causing them to reach out to ISIS

adsy · 28/03/2015 11:24

Hello mistress I was wondering why you hadn't popped up on this thread Grin.
Have people noticed that the proportion of apologists seems to be diminishing or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

hiddenhome · 28/03/2015 11:28

Islam is a belief system not a race. Nobody should be afraid to speak out against the people who teach violence and hatred.

lem73 · 28/03/2015 11:31

I remember in 1999 an Egyptair flight crashed shortly after takeoff. The black box recorded the Egyptian pilot reciting a verse from the Quran as the plane went down. The New York times published an article saying clearly this proved it was an act of terrorism, not these were the words of a man realising he was going to die. That is a definite case of double standards. That was the third plane which had gone down in the same area in a decade but when it involves Muslims the Americans assume it is terrorism. For the record I knew the daughter of that pilot and it was extremely distressing for the family. He certainly wasn't a terrorist despite what the new York times said.
I'm also sick of hearing that the German pilot committed suicide. He murdered those people.

hiddenhome · 28/03/2015 11:35

I don't see why it is up to us to police these people Hmm why do we need to 'engage' with and 'reach out' to them? Other groups don't demand or need this. You don't see Methodists, Buddhists or Sikhs requiring this special treatment. Can't they police themselves?

There are plenty of citizens in the UK who would love a bit of extra attention and resources, but are never likely to receive them. They just have to get on with it - the homeless, disabled and mentally ill for example.

adsy · 28/03/2015 11:36

lem nobody officially involved is calling the lastest plane incident suicide. They have made it very clear that it is homicide.
hungry please explain how "engaging" is going to actually work. So the government will ask the opinion of who? about what? and will then do what armed with their opinion?

adsy · 28/03/2015 11:40

lem this is the official recording from the black box voice recorder

"*Saying "I rely on God", he switched off the auto-pilot and pushed the plane into a dive.

Captain Ahmed el-Habashi, who had been out of the cockpit managed to struggle back in, and shouted: "What's happening, Gamil? What's happening?" El-Batouty said again "I rely on God," and shut down the fuel to both engines*"

Sounds pretty much like a deliberate act of murder to me. What do you think?

Moreshabbythanchic · 28/03/2015 11:42

How are we supposed to engage with some of these people when they remain in their own communities, refuse to learn to speak english and are totally unsympathetic to english customs. How about they try and engage with US for a change.

MistressMia · 28/03/2015 11:47

Hungry Violent jihadism is on the rise because increasing numbers of muslims are returning to the literal interpretations and following the example of the early muslims including the 'prophet'.

One scholar can argue against another, but the history of Islam is there for muslims to see for themselves. Those muslims who turn to jihad are swayed by their own research and it doesn't really matter a jot what the nice Imam down the road says.

The historian Tom Holland had a factual article recently about the Islamic basis of ISIS et al:

www.newstatesman.com/politics/2015/03/tom-holland-we-must-not-deny-relgious-roots-islamic-state

When Islamic State fighters smash the statues of pagan gods, they are following the example of the Prophet; when they proclaim themselves the shock troops of a would-be global empire, they are following the example of the warriors of the original caliphate; when they execute enemy combatants, and impose discriminatory taxes on Christians, and take the women of defeated opponents as slaves, they are doing nothing that the first Muslims did not glory in

None of the above has anything to do with your foreign policy meme.
