Back in the day I remember the big fear being the Irish. Bins were removed from train stations and the news was rife with incidents going on.

It's same news different religion different nationalities

Joyfulldeathsquad · 27/03/2015 23:12

I don't think my friend at work is a terrorist, never mind your mate down the road. I don't think anyone if this thread thinks that all Muslims are terrorists either?

Your posts are blanketing should and are not carrying any weight.

here

Have a look at that link. Muslims themselves are worried.

But you come across as uber trendy though should Wink

Hillingdon · 27/03/2015 23:13

Maybe in the future a new religion, group of terrorists will emerge. However, for now I honestly feel we need a drains up of what is happening here and now.

PoisonPension · 27/03/2015 23:13

Ian Pasley, the Northern Irish Vicar backed up his orange Men. Psychopaths come in all shapes and sizes.

ShouldIworryornothelp · 27/03/2015 23:14

I know Muslims are worried about it, very worried about it and about the backlash that they're on the recieving end of simply for being muslim

ApplePaltrow · 27/03/2015 23:15

This is hilarious. Soooooo many posters were defending him on the other thread. Sorry, but I just have to laugh. The other daughters will probably be hopping on a plane to Syria next week. I'm guessing that will be the police's fault too Grin.

Joyfulldeathsquad · 27/03/2015 23:16

Yeah back in the day the Irish ey! It's not like they blew manchester to smithereens is it oh nooooo.

(Manchester lass here)

ShouldIworryornothelp · 27/03/2015 23:17

I remember that day well joyful my sister was caught up in it.

My point being the threat has always been there, just the face, race, religion changes.

Hillingdon · 27/03/2015 23:17

We all I suspect have Muslim friends. I am more concerned about them being a nice person and I couldn't give a toss about what religion they follow.

What I am concerned about is the UK bending over backwards to not upset one community. The parents want their draughts brought back home.

Any volunteers as to who would like to live next door to them?

PoisonPension · 27/03/2015 23:19

I would not want to live next to this family or Ian Pasley either.

Joyfulldeathsquad · 27/03/2015 23:21

Well I'm honestly surprised that you have such a blazè attitude to it when over two hundred people were injured. Including your sister. If it's true..

Well done for the derail Wink

Hillingdon · 27/03/2015 23:21

Threats I agree have always been there from all sorts. Here and now its one religion that needs scrunity. In 20 yrs time it might be something else but for now....

Hillingdon · 27/03/2015 23:22

Isn't Ian Paisley dead???

ShouldIworryornothelp · 27/03/2015 23:23

Who said im blaze about it. I'm simply entering into a discussion on an Internet forum. My views just happen to differ from yours.

I don't see that I've derailed it at all. I just challenged an earlier post. The thread discussion moved on. Feel free to go back to the earlier discussion though.

blossomweary · 27/03/2015 23:23

I'm not surprised either.
There is a phenomenal book by Ed Husain called 'The Islamist' which details his radicalisation in Tower Hamlets during the 1990s. It is enlightening and sobering. Sarfraz Manzoor did a really brilliant radio 4 piece last week about radicalisation and the fight between progressive/moderate Muslims and growing conservatism. What is fascinating is how much more observant the younger generation are than a lot of their parents.
I don't for a minute think Muslim = Islamist (they are two fundamentally different things) but I do think that British Muslims are moving less towards being progressive and more towards conservatism.

This is probably one of THE most important debates to be had right now - and it has to be had without fear or being labelled racist or xenophobic. If we don't have it, and then start fighting fire with fire as the French government has done, it will have very serious repercussions.

PoisonPension · 27/03/2015 23:25

Yes, dead or alive I would want nothing to do with him. He gave me nightmares as a child.

I made an effort not to allow JJ and his gang scare me or my dc like that.

ShouldIworryornothelp · 27/03/2015 23:26

One of the things that interests me is why people turn to such extreme views. What's attractive about it? It's got to be more than a theological interest surely?

Joyfulldeathsquad · 27/03/2015 23:27

blossom how frightening. I wonder why they are turning to more conservatism ?

Hillingdon · 27/03/2015 23:30

Blossom - you are of course quite right. Ring fence the issue without fear of anything. Rather then pussyfooting around.

To lighten this up slightly. I work for a large FTSE company. Expenses are always a hot topic. So the company sends blanket emails to all saying you are spending too much or the rules aren't being followed I.e no 1st class rail travel.

Blooming well look at the highest spenders, we have to claim line by line. Then write and address those people, otherwise it's pointless.

PoisonPension · 27/03/2015 23:31

It would be interesting to know why there has been a change? Ukip getting support?

ShouldIworryornothelp · 27/03/2015 23:32

It's the collective guilt trip hillingdon teachers do it to kids

"Class no play time until you stop talking"
Mavis keeps talking
kids pick on Mavis for talking and cutting into their play time
Peer pressure

Hillingdon · 27/03/2015 23:36

I think UKIP will surprise us all. People might not come out and admit it but once in that ballot booth..

I live near Slough. There are older English people who feel their community has gone, they don't hear English spoken in the area. They feel overwhelmed by it all. They are the people who will I feel vote for UKIP.

FaceofNubia · 27/03/2015 23:36

shouldiworry You're right, its not just theological interest. Its a calling by a higher being, to do something perceived as great, something that doesn't just save them in this life but in the one beyond. If you don't have a religious belief then it might be hard to understand. The mistake you're making is in thinking its all just 'theology', its not, to them its life itself.

Hillingdon · 27/03/2015 23:39

Actually we all know who are the highest spenders (and they know we know!). Its the seniors! Someone asked for a list of the biggest spenders, people who weren't following the process even though they had been told many times.

Guess what, VP level and above had been removed from the list!

blossomweary · 27/03/2015 23:40

Personally, I find UKIP troubling but for myriad reasons. However, I think they might be useful, in that they could appease the far right vote enough and if we can keep their less desirable members in their box a bit, we can avoid a Le Pen style French far right. We must must must look at what a mess France has made over the years with this issue and continues to make. I can only see more Charlie Hebdo style atrocities over there - but I think and hope that the UK will work at this firmly but sensitively. There is too much at stake not to.
