AIBU re McDonalds

I rarely eat McDonalds, maybe a couple of times a year, went into my local one earlier and ordered a quarter pounder, fries and chocolate shake. I was told no shake, so I said ok, strawberry, they said nope, scraping the bottom of the barrel I then said ok, vanilla. They said no.

What the hell is the world coming to? McDONALDS HAVE STOPPED SELLING MILK SHAKES!!!!! Instead they have smoothies made with yogurt which is yuk and the spawn of the devil.

AIBU to say that this is outrageous and to demand our shakes back? I'm off to write my banner for picketing later.

As an aside, a lot of the chinese supermarkets sell cans of AW rootbeer. Sodastream do a rootbeer syrup as well Grin

I really fancy salty fries now but we've got dominos vouchers.

RandomNPC · 26/03/2015 17:47

Yes, Waitrose does naice Australian Rootbeer too. AW is a good substitute.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 26/03/2015 17:51

Ooh.

SistersOfPercy · 26/03/2015 17:52

AW is where it's at! Grin
Our chinese supermarket does proper American Mountain Dew as well, DH treats me to a case occasionally.

OMFG Pipbin, the contents of the US shake are gross.

My top tip for McD's is I order my quarter pounder with cheese plain (minus the pickle etc). This means that they can't just whip the gunge out of a ready made burger, they cook one specially so you always know your burger is fresh and hasn't been languishing in the tray for ages.

Thank you for the recipe to make my own shakes but not sure how 2 bananas turn into a chocolate shake Grin.

Not sure how I came to be such an expert when I only have one at max twice a year lol.

eatshitderek totally agree on the Still Fanta front, why the devil did they ever stop doing it? Especially as the Oasis drink is fairly crap.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 26/03/2015 18:22

My sister used to work at one. She said the most common reason for the frequent "unavailability" of milkshakes due to machine problems is because the machine isn't cleaned properly and has problems. yuk. Make of that what you will.

Our local Burger King (in the UK) actually had no hamburger buns a few years ago. And they were still open, no signs up, they waited until people ordered, then said "oh sorry, we're out of buns - getting a delivery later today...." Confused

DH still complains about the time Subway told him they'd run out of bread but could sell him a drink and a cookie.

He takes his sandwiches very seriously, and could have accepted they'd run out of certain fillings. But not bread.

I'm still upset about the root beer, I loved it, and nobody sells it now.

OP your MacDonald's worker is probably talking about you somewhere now though. "She asked for a shake, I told her no shakes. So she asked for strawberry shake and I told her we didn't have any shakes. So she asked for vanilla shake and I had to say no shakes again. No shakes, why did she keep asking for shake when I said no shakes?"

I promise I am not the MacDonald's worker. Grin

If you email them to have a bit of a moan about it they might send you a voucher. We were sold a rancid strawberry shake once, when their machine had gone wrong, so they sent us £15 worth of vouchers to make up for it. We didn't get milkshake with them though, DS won't drink them now.

I was slightly offended by their apology. They accused me of being a regular customer Shock Grin We were only there because they were the only place nearby with a toilet and I felt we had to buy something before we could use them.

Hmmm, at the risk of offending the Grand Inquisitors from the 'lies about DDs age' thread, that sounds tempting.

Still Fanta? Still Fanta? Wtf? Isn't that just orange juice Confused?

FelixFelix · 26/03/2015 18:52

I once went to KFC and they had ran out of chicken. In another separate incident, we called to order from Pizza Hut and they had ran out of pizza bases Shock Both places are next to each other on a retail park in Durham. They must be REALLY popular. How can you run out of pizza bases?!

LampingPolars · 26/03/2015 19:00

Derek, are you me? I agree with everything you said minus double cheeseburger- just a bog standard cheeseburger for me!

Me, DH and the dog walked 20ish minutes to McDonald's the other day because we fancied ice cream. Got there- machine was broken! Took the dog for a walk in the woods on the way home (2 minute walk from home) and the bloody ice cream man was there. Paid a fiver for two 99s and discovered that my husband calls flakes 99s- weird man!

LampingPolars · 26/03/2015 19:01

Still fanta was the best McDonalds drink ever!

itsbetterthanabox · 26/03/2015 19:25

Oh still fanta. You were so delicious. So much better than fizzy. Why did you leave us?

EduCated · 26/03/2015 19:27

Still fanta is so much more than plain old orange juice. I think you can get it from the massive drinks machines in Five Guys.

I used to be so loyal to the nuggets before they changed the recipe and started making them out of actual chicken. They were never the same Sad

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 26/03/2015 20:36

Still Fanta. Yum. They have something called Tang in North America which is basically powdered squash but tastes much the same.

Anyone know the Big Mac song?

"Two all-beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed BUN "
