AIBU re McDonalds

I rarely eat McDonalds, maybe a couple of times a year, went into my local one earlier and ordered a quarter pounder, fries and chocolate shake. I was told no shake, so I said ok, strawberry, they said nope, scraping the bottom of the barrel I then said ok, vanilla. They said no.

What the hell is the world coming to? McDONALDS HAVE STOPPED SELLING MILK SHAKES!!!!! Instead they have smoothies made with yogurt which is yuk and the spawn of the devil.

AIBU to say that this is outrageous and to demand our shakes back? I'm off to write my banner for picketing later.

The ice cream machines on the Mcdonalds near me (RCT, South Wales) are always broken ... which is a crying shame because I go in annually for a toffee sundae ... just my bloody luck :D
Loving the pearl clutching over people 'not eating that muck'. Behave. Organic foie gras does not a better person make.

willbillycome · 25/03/2015 21:45

I hate it when you order a choc shake and get a little bit of banana flavour at the bottom. Ruins the whole mcds experience.

(Cant touch banana shakes after an unfortunate game of throw baby in the air. Dont play this with your mouth open after feeding baby banana and milk)

Once you look into the ingredients the difference in the fries between UK and US is very interesting.
UK fries: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Sunflower, Rapeseed), Dextrose (predominantly added at beginning of the potato season).

US fries: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [Wheat and Milk Derivatives]*, Citric Acid [Preservative]), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (Maintain Color), Salt.

I worked in McDonalds Dublin back in 1986 and at that time I can assure you the milkshakes were made with full cream Irish milk, the burgers were Irish beef and the breadbuns were made by Kylemore Bakeries. I wouldn't like to bet on that happening nowadays!
My staff lunch was always a fillet of fish with massive amounts of lettuce and a vanilla milkshake. Best value and nutrition. All I had at home was a jar of coffee!

Sgtmajormummy · 25/03/2015 21:54

The chips came from Holland, though Hmm.

silveroldie2 · 25/03/2015 22:42

OMG why do the US fries have all that crap added?

Banana milkshake - two frozen bananas, milk, food processor. You don't need McDonald's!

SistersOfPercy · 25/03/2015 23:06

I usually order a quarter no cheese. DD orders big Mac with no cheese which frankly is just bloody weird Grin
Did cause amusement though when she was handed a box with a sticker that read 'no chease'. I mean it's not like the word is in half a dozen places on that big menu behind you is it?

Derek what is it about Big Macs that you don't like?! I think they are fabulous. I would sell my first born for a lifetime supply of the salady-mayo bit under the cheese on the bottom layer.

riverboat1 · 25/03/2015 23:20

I would never go for a big Mac, and that salady mayo bit is the reason why! That and the extra unneccesary bit of bread.

SistersOfPercy · 25/03/2015 23:21

There is a pretty good recipe for big macs in the takeaway secret book.
I can knock up perfect big macs AND sausage and egg mcmuffins thanks to that book. It's the best worst thing I ever bought Blush

WayfaringStranger · 25/03/2015 23:22

river bread is never unessecary! Shock

Or unnecessary, whatever! why can I never spell that word?

WayfaringStranger · 25/03/2015 23:24

I hear ya on the top staining issue, have you considered a bib? Grin

DarylDixonsDarlin · 25/03/2015 23:27

Agree about the milkshake machines often being out of order. And mcflurry too in the summer. So annoying - for the DCs at least, I can no longer consume them without suffering diarrhoea about 6 hours later Sad i think it may be skimmed milk powder or something which is the culprit Sad

Do any shops or supermarkets sell the big mac type buns?

You know with the extra bit of bread in the middle?

ImGoingForATwix · 25/03/2015 23:31

I'm sure I read that you should never have a milkshake or mcflurry from mcDs because the machines are never cleaned properly. Put me right off. Same with cinema popcorn, I heard that from a friend who worked in a cinema when we were students. Said the machines were cleaned every leap year Grin That was a BIG chain cinema too.

Dumpylump · 25/03/2015 23:32

I will eat a Big Mac grudgingly....it doesn't hold a candle to a Wimpy quarter pounder with cheese though...food of the gods that is Grin

Agreed. I like the smoky taste of BK burgers but the fries are just not right. Too dry and crunchy.

thiskiwicanfly · 25/03/2015 23:41

Dammit - just checked and the shakes are also gluten free - which means I can have one... Salad and chicken for lunch? Not anymore!

PrettyLittleMitty · 26/03/2015 06:38

Want McD's fries now! They don't serve them here until 10.30, damn them Angry
