To be dreading telling DS Clarkson was fired.

Right decision by the BBC. Absolutely dreading collecting my son from school and telling him though...

richthegreatcornholio what lesson do you think the BBC needs to learn?

Not to kill a cash cow. Top Gear will inevitably wither and die as the presenters move now to higher paying gigs on another channel. It's naive to think this sets a good example to kids as you can be sure JC will come out on top and make even more money as a result of this. No doubt the licence fee payers will be expected to fill the hole in the BBC's income.

Agrestic · 25/03/2015 16:00

Lots of harsh replies.

The kids 8. He understands right from wrong but his favourite programme/presenter is long gone! Of course he'll be upset.

Sparklingbrook · 25/03/2015 16:01

Just tell him. Mine are 13 and 15 and loved Top Gear, but they will be fine.

LoxleyBarrett · 25/03/2015 16:01

I still can't see why it is worthy of dread?

Christinayangstwistedsister - We could send out a MN hit squad?

OwlCapone · 25/03/2015 16:01

So, richthegreatcornholio, do you think the BBC should have ignored the violent assault and just let JC get on with it?

OwlCapone · 25/03/2015 16:02

Personally, I am impressed that the BBC stood up for the small fry employee.

meowth · 25/03/2015 16:03

see I'm an adult and I love it, i'm a bit miffed too.
there are some people with different opinions, just MN is not the place Grin

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 16:03

Fair enough, most posters think I was being unreasonable. I was astounded at the responses though, some seemed very over the top.

I will be interested to see the reaction on here when One Direction inevitably split up, I would think that there will be a lot of parents seriously dreading telling their children that one.

Thank you agrestic you seem to have understood where I was coming from. Smile

I think the trouble is a lot of people loathed him before this so that's why it's hard for them to have any understanding.

Mrsjayy · 25/03/2015 16:10

Look at it as a life lesson if you punch somebody and verbally abuse somebody then you will lose your job your son will be fine

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 16:10

PrivatePike, I should have clarified that I just wasn't really looking forward to telling my son the presenter of his favourite show was fired. I didn't really expect people to take me so literally.

Sparklingbrook · 25/03/2015 16:12

there's a thread called 'Clarkson Dropped' where everyone is giving their feedback about the incident. This one is becoming just like it. Confused

richthegreatcornholio · 25/03/2015 16:13

So, richthegreatcornholio, do you think the BBC should have ignored the violent assault and just let JC get on with it?

Well it's going to cost them a lot of money in the long run! He swung a punch not a baseball bat, I think it's blown out of all proportion but then I expect nothing less from the lefty PC tossers at the BBC.

Satsumafairy · 25/03/2015 16:13

I teach year 2 children though and you are right, a lot of children do love Top Gear.

ApocalypseThen · 25/03/2015 16:14

For those who think it's perfectly reasonable for small children to be that upset over a tv show, how much telly are they watching that it's that important to them? Maybe today is a day to start to give them something more than racist, mysogynist, violent bullies to identify with?

Capricorn76 · 25/03/2015 16:14

The kids will get over it very quickly. I was sad for about 1 minute when Wham broke up when I was about 8 and I loved them. It was the big news at school the next day though.

NoImSpartacus · 25/03/2015 16:15

The irony of the stroppy OP telling everyone to 'chill' Grin

OP you do know this is AIBU, right? Where you ask if you are being unreasonable and everyone tells you you are / you aren't. Well the overall consensus, as you don't seem to be able to grasp the concept, is, you are, being unreasonable, that is.

Oh and it's a YABU from me by the way.

NoImSpartacus · 25/03/2015 16:17

Oh and the reason YABU you are being unduly hyperbolic, I would 'absolutely dread' telling my son the dog had died, not that some oaf won't be on the telly anymore.

Jeremy behaved like a dick for the umpteenth time and deserved it.

but, yes, I'm gutted to see TG go and ds will miss it. It was one of the very few programmes we watch together.

mind you, that cock Suarez is still enjoying a nice footballing career. makes me livid he got away with it, again.

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 16:18

For those who think it's perfectly reasonable for small children to be that upset over a tv show, how much telly are they watching that it's that important to them?

Silly and sweeping statement. My son doesn't watch a lot of telly, Top Gear is one of the very few things he watches. So I think it's perfectly understandable that he is a bit annoyed that the presenter has gone from one of the very few shows he watches. Perhaps people should consider how much TV their kids watch if they don't care at all when there's a big change, as they have too many shows to pick from? No, that doesn't work either.

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 25/03/2015 16:19

Hmm,..perhaps we should allow violent, arrogant bullies to do what they want just in case a child gets upset if they are sacked?

This

I'm amazed that so many young children are allowed to watch such crap, and that they'd even find it interesting

NoImSpartacus · 25/03/2015 16:19

PrivatePike good for you. I do.
