To be dreading telling DS Clarkson was fired.

Right decision by the BBC. Absolutely dreading collecting my son from school and telling him though...

Best possible news for JC is would think. Hopefully we'll see him on another channel ASAP and with a bit of luck Top Gear will die a death and teach the BBC a lesson.

OwlCapone · 25/03/2015 15:41

Why would you be dreading it?

Loving Top Gear doesn't mean you can't understand why punching someone is not to be tolerated.

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:42

Whoa. Extreme reactions here. As I said, the BBC made the right decision. DS is 8, so of course he is annoyed that one of the hosts of his favourite show has been fired. I told him what happened and he agrees he shouldn't keep his job but he is still miffed that it's happened.

ChipDip · 25/03/2015 15:42

How odd, do you really think your DS will fall to pieces?

Satsumafairy · 25/03/2015 15:45

Just say "yes, he got the sack. That's what happens to people when they punch their colleagues at work".

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:46

Well clearly not but he won't be happy, like a lot of kids. Jeez, some people here must have absolutely brilliant children who, if fan, wholeheartedly support the decision by the BBC and now hate Clarkson and are not in the least bit disappointed that Top Gear is effectively finished. Can't say I've ever met a young child like that, but hey ho!

Capricorn76 · 25/03/2015 15:46

Twinkie, you're the one who implied your son would flip out upon learning of the 'sacking' so please don't make out the reactions to that bizzare OP were extreme.

championnibbler · 25/03/2015 15:46

A cast iron example here of First World Problems.

elfycat · 25/03/2015 15:47

I think my DD1 will have a sniffle and protest loudly (but then she's in a protest loudly place at the moment - bless grinds teeth )

But she's been hit at school and she'll like the lesson that it's not tolerated of adults.

I like the Top Gear format but don't think that JC, JM or RH are fixtures that the program will fail without. I've been thinking for a couple of years that it could use someone new and that JC would be my favourite to go first.

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:48

satsumafairy that's pretty much what I did. Smile

Should I have put lighthearted in the title to make sure people were aware I wasn't seriously worried about my child having a hissy fit or something?

OP posts:
TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:49

flip out? Just no.

spiderlight · 25/03/2015 15:49

Well, if you are BU then so am I. My DS is just 8 and absolutely adores Top Gear. There will be tears at home time. Obviously I have explained why it's been pulled and why what Clarkson did is so very wrong, but while he understands that, he'll still be gutted that his absolute favourite programme will cease to exist at least in its current format, and that he might not get to go to Top Gear Live in the Autumn.

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:50

Thank you spiderlight.

Do a lot of children watch TG? Genuine question, because it's not something mine ever had any interest in. I thought it was more a thing for middle aged petrolheads.

Providore · 25/03/2015 15:51

richthegreatcornholio what lesson do you think the BBC needs to learn?

SurlyCue · 25/03/2015 15:51

Well my son (9) has been bullied, including being punched so if he were to be infatuated with that twat im pretty sure it'd soon lose its appeal after knowing what he did. There would be no tears shed thats for sure.

Spadequeen · 25/03/2015 15:51

If your child is old enough to watch top gear, he is old enough to understand that he should be sacked.

You say that replies on here have been extreme reactions, I think your "aibu to be dreading telling ds clarkson was fired". That is an extreme reaction, get a grip.

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:53

I was dreading my sons disappointment. No other parent ever dreaded that feeling? Goodness me people here need to chill...

OP posts:
Spadequeen · 25/03/2015 15:53

Twinkle and spider, your children should be directing their disappointment at clarkson then, it is after all his fault why top gear will not continue in the current format or why the top gear live might not go ahead, not anyone at the bbc.

Satsumafairy · 25/03/2015 15:54

Sorry if I'm being thick but have all the other presenters decided not to do it too now because of this?

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:55

spadequeen very true but being 8 is probably getting in the way of that logic.

OP posts:
CaptainHolt · 25/03/2015 15:57

Because my son loves Top Gear? Like 1000s of other kids

That's nice, but 1000s of other kids effectively can't watch it in case a mindless tosser randomly insults their race and/or gender. But I'm another one who loved Rolf's cartoon club and I think if that at been pulled when I was 8 I wouldn't have understood why and I would have been upset about it.

I'm really surprised how popular it is. I've only seen it a couple of times and it was dull as shit and Clarkson came across like a massive bellend. (May seemed much more on the ball)

Spadequeen · 25/03/2015 15:58

You asked we're you being unreasonable, most posters said yes you were. You don't agree, fine.

PausingFlatly · 25/03/2015 15:58

Yes, I'm also interested in what lesson richthegreatcornholio thinks the BBC needs to learn.

TwinkieTwinkle · 25/03/2015 15:59

satsuma it's pretty much a given that it's done. The other two would probably leave with Clarkson and even if they didn't Clarkson is Top Gear. It wouldn't last. No doubt they'll end up on another channel with a very similar show. Hopefully not a sky channel though.
