To only let my children have fresh fruit/yoghurt for breakfast?

Sunshinesunflower · 22/03/2015 21:47

They have plenty of healthy food during the day but I don't really want them thinking the day has to start with them shoving lots of hot food or sugary cereals down themselves.

There is plenty of fruit for variety and just a small amount of plain yoghurt.

Aibu? I have always disliked the concept of breakfast so fruit seems a reasonable compromise.

Your poor children is such a nasty thing to say, it's not like she's feeding them crap.

Sunshinesunflower · 23/03/2015 18:27

shes right as they are to be pitied although not because of their diets.

But fruit is very high in sugar. Confused And if they start the day with just sugary carbs they are going to be starving again by mid morning. Not to mention bored sick of fruit, they will end up hating it - is that what you want?

Porridge would be good - not sure what your problem with them having hot food for breakfast is? Confused

In an ideal world they'd be eating an egg on some wholemeal toast or something, and a little bit of fruit afterwards.

Eggs again

sunshine how about a wheetabix smoothie?www.food.com/recipe/banana-and-weetabix-smoothie-381102
Really quick and easy to make, no cooking, and something the kids might enjoy. You could also add some more bits to it if you wanted to.

fatlazymummy · 23/03/2015 18:40

And I found this recipe, if you have a slow cooker www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/slow-cooked-porridge
Nothing wrong with porridge for breakfast. Lots of fit healthy people eat it Smile

You see, the thing is this.

In an ideal world I would not have these children. I can't feed them a nutritious diet, parent them or be much of anything for them. In an ideal world, they wouldn't exist at all. In an ideal world they'd have a proper mother.

Now believe me I have tried. I've no idea how to do this so I've read books forums - including mumsnet - and still made such a hash of it.

They'd be better without me I know but I can't do anything for a while and I'm not sure they'd be better without me as I'm not sure if the alternatives would be worse, but then I'm thinking it can't be much worse?

My mum left me with no breakfast and a meat pie for lunch as I stayed with my grandmother in the day, it wasn't that bad.

Why would you even do that Bombay? Why would you laugh uproariously and then add that 'oh you sound unhappy' well you sound twisted.

sunshine I'm sure you are doing fine, and your children are fine.
Talk to your children (at least the oldest one) and ask them what they would like for breakfast. They may love their fruit and yoghurt and feel full up all morning. They might want something else.No one knows, apart from them.

Bombeyduck · 23/03/2015 18:56

Lighten up sunshine, it's just the Internet!

misskatamari · 23/03/2015 18:56

Sunshine, please reach out and speak to someone in RL about these feelings. You're children would not be better off without you, and you do not have to go through life feeling such negatives things about yourself.

As for breakfast, adding some slow release carbs would be beneficial. A op mentioned overnight oats, which could be a perfect compromise. Just add some oats to yoghurt and some milk before bed, and eat with fruit in the morning. Really tasty and similar to what you do now, but it has slow release carbs for energy.

misskatamari · 23/03/2015 18:57

Op = pp

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 23/03/2015 18:57

Op I made a stupidly flippant remark earlier on in the thread. I'm sorry about that. I should have thought before I posted. It's turned out to have been a hugely complex issue. It sounds like you might have got some use out of the thread in between many of the less helpful posts.

Bombey, I'm not sure how you can read this whole thread and find it funny.

ChestyNut · 23/03/2015 18:58

sunshine I'm sure your none of those awful things your calling yourself.
You obviously have issues around food and self image.

Please don't pass these feelings to your DCs however unwittingly.

Fruit and yoghurt is fine occasionally but so is peanut butter on toast or porridge or cereal.
After an overnight fast breakfast is important for DCs, more so than supper.
(Hence the name....break.....fast)

The same thing everyday and referring to eating breakfast as gluttonous screams eating disorder to me.

Be kind to yourself OP Flowers

AGirlCalledBoB · 23/03/2015 18:59

Op I would really like to know where your oh is in all this,

Because he really needs to look into getting serious help for you. It's clear you are deeply depressed, have some serious issues that are affecting your children and by the sound of your last post talking about suicide.

Bombay if op is lying about all this, then she really would be the sickest most disgusting person to ever darken mumsnet and I very much doubt someone would be so sick to make this stuff up so I do think op is genuine.

msgrinch · 23/03/2015 19:01

op your children would not be better off without you. Thanks

StayingSamVimesGirl · 23/03/2015 19:01

Sunshine - I have been suicidal, and your posts are heartbreaking. I said this earlier, and really want you to read it.

But the OP's attitude to herself is heartbreaking. I have felt that way about myself, and it has fed the depression that has blighted my life (and given me food issues - in my case over weight) - and it is only when I had therapy last year that I learned to be kind to myself - and that it was fine to be kind to myself.

Sunshine - please stop insulting yourself and saying hurtful things about yourself. You can't control what other people say to you or about you, but you can and should control, the things you say and think about yourself. You deserve kindness - we all do - and you should be able to rely on getting it from yourself at least.

Sunshinesunflower · 23/03/2015 19:02

Thanks. No I don't mean I'm suicidal exactly, I just mean, not sure what I mean, I don't think.

Please, never mind my husband, he is home, all is fine. I will leave the thread now if you don't mind I know I said this before we are fine.

OP posts:
Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 23/03/2015 19:02

I recommend pre prepared scotch pancakes, they are so quick and easy and not so massive that they would make you feel that the kids are being glutinous. Just take a minute or two in the toaster.
Also op I'm excessively hairy too. I know it's not the point of the thread but just wanted to let you know that I share your pain!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/03/2015 19:15

Sunshine, you know what, I think you need to hide this thread now.

I was one of the ones who was quite tough on you at the start - fair enough, you did spend the first 13 pages digging your heels in Smile but towards the end you really seemed to be getting some ideas and some support, now the evening shift has started and people are piling on without RTFT and the responses you're getting aren't based on the conversation we've all been having for the past couple of days.

I'd draw a line, take the good from the thread and then start again.

((hugs)) and I never do that on here!
