I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

£500 for a lovely lodge next to a loch in northern scotland. kids insisted we go back after a great time last year. They are pals with the owner's kids and they all play together while DP and I our feet up.

I think my holiday planning error was having three children.

Last year we rented a farmhouse for 2 weeks in August, with a pool in the South of France. 2 adults and 2 DCs. Very pretty village and the farmhouse was very shabby chic. We ate out every day and did a lot of travelling around. There wasn't any change left over from about 7K.

We haven't booked this year's family holiday but we're looking at all inclusive resorts in Greece. We're expecting to pay about 7K again.

At half term in May DH and I are going to The Cayman Islands for 9 days and sending the DCs off to PGL for 5 days. Together both holidays are costing about 5K and are probably the best kind of family holiday Wink

Or rather, 2 adults and 1 child will be staying in Israel with family. Meals out and flights plus other bits and bobs will equal max of £1k.

edwinbear · 17/03/2015 21:52

7k 2 weeks AI in Mexico for 2 adults and 2 children. Same place we went last year, it was fantastic. We are all beyond excited.

sosix · 17/03/2015 21:52

Just under £5k for 6 of us all inclusive to rhodes

QueenArseClangers · 17/03/2015 21:55

£2500 for a family of 7 all inclusive, 9 nights in Crete.
Think I got a bargain!

For 7yo DD and I:

Summer holiday to the Canary Islands at the beginning of July set us back £700 for two weeks half board - that includes flights, luggage, taxes, etc. I am not the sort who gets hung up on accommodation. We use the room to eat and shower - I don't give a crap what it looks like and I am really not going to give a shit if we have swan shaped towels laid out on the beds upon arrival. Our complex is basic but nice (and very clean). There's three pools, a beach 15 minutes walk away and plenty to keep us entertained. I cannot wait. HELLO sunshine! Grin

This looks fun, looking at doing this later in the year
www.naturetravels.co.uk/water-sweden-timber-rafting-klaralven-vv58rs1.htm
£280 plus flight £75 return

Primafacie · 17/03/2015 21:55

Unikitty, how about Nice on Côte d'Azur? We go every year, it has so much to offer - we also don't drive, and it has excellent transport links. You can take trains to the mountains, there are theme parks (Marineland, Azurpark) in Antibes, fab play areas for kids, great galleries and museums (sea museum in Monaco). And great food and shopping too! It does get really hot though - can be 37C in summer!

arna · 17/03/2015 21:56

2 ads & 2 dc. 1 week in August to Iceland.
£600 flights (booked in Jan)
Car Hire & accommodation will be extortionate (I'm still researching all options atm). Campervanning is starting to look appealing since it's looking to be the most economic option at £2.5K! So, at over £3k on a self catering basis, it's not a budget holiday.

QueenArseClangers · 17/03/2015 21:56

The 7 people include me, DH, two teen DS, two under tens and an infant.

BadLad · 17/03/2015 21:58

About 5k for a resort in Vietnam. Huge shared pools, and private villa with pool. All food and booze included. It's very near a world heritage site but I've done my time looking around Asian dust towns, so I'll go there once and then spend the rest of the time in the pool watching films and getting rat-arsed.

LapsedTwentysomething · 17/03/2015 22:00

Holy fucking moly. I wasn't brought up with foreign holidays, and the thought of spending over £500 for a week anywhere makes me wince. We've decided to stick to Ceredigion while the DCs are small. I've booked three separate weeks in a self catering cottage we like for three separate weeks: Easter, August and October. £1k all in.

slithytove · 17/03/2015 22:00

£100 car hire
£50 car parking
£200 cattery
Whatever food costs

For 2 weeks in Spain. Free villa and flights. We are so lucky. Even paying the above is a huge stretch for us.

LapsedTwentysomething · 17/03/2015 22:00

Excuse my appalling syntax.

MrsBungle · 17/03/2015 22:04

3k for 2 weeks in menorca in august. 1k on flights and 1k per week for the villa. 2 adults 2 kids.

I'm amazed at the £420 per person all inclusive in the summer holidays. I looked at all inclusive and the cheapest deals were about 5k for the 4 of us. I need to do better research obviously!

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 17/03/2015 22:06

10k for flights and accommodation in New England for 3 of us in July for 2 weeks. Car hire and spending money 3-4k. I do get a shed load of avios points though to put towards my next flights!

Trickydecision · 17/03/2015 22:06

Approx. £5,000 January skiing, me, DH, 2 Adult DSs, adult DGS;
£5,700 just DH and me Caribbean in Aoril;
Approx. £8,500 Caribbean in August DH, me, one adult DS, adult DGS and two small DGCs. We pay for the family to come.

Middlerose · 17/03/2015 22:06

Bulk it out with lentils. It will taste the same and nobody will be able to tell the difference.

AnnieMoor · 17/03/2015 22:08

About 6k on 2 weeks in US.

I book it all separately so it doesn't seem as bad as totalling it up.

workadurka · 17/03/2015 22:08

Bloody hell £200 on a cattery? Can't a neighbour look after them?

I'd love to know what % of income all your holidays are...

We are doing £1.8k for a week all inclusive in Greece, plus a week with family by the coast in the UK (petrol & food).

Primafacie · 17/03/2015 22:09

Good point, Middlerose. Will try it next time :)

Toooldtobearsed · 17/03/2015 22:12

One week, all inclusive, Xante. Adults only, on the beach, 5 minute walk to town.

£150 for both of us Grin

Traded in my Avios points!

sorting out the dogs, cat and chickens is costing considerably more......
