to ask how much you are spending on your foreign summer family holiday this year?

I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

Not sure yet, but there will be 6 of us, although 3 will be mostly paying for themselves.
Something short haul for a couple of weeks during term time, so cheaper and quieter.

butterfly2015 · 17/03/2015 21:21

Four days volunteering at a disabled children's camp in July. Costs about £50. Rewards are seeing my children working and playing with kids with sen and not batting an eye and although I'll be knackered and in absolute agony I adore those four magical days.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 17/03/2015 21:22

10k for a month in Bali ? They saw you coming.

TeaAndBisquits · 17/03/2015 21:22

It's early May so not peak time and the kids are both under 5 so assuming we got some form of child discount?

Booked through Thomas Cook :)

CheeseAndBeans · 17/03/2015 21:23

£130 for 4 nights in Devon. Me, OH and DD.
Booked via sun holidays.
So jealous of all these wonderfully expensive holidays, we just can't afford it! Sad

Notrevealingmyidentity · 17/03/2015 21:23

This year I have been to Iceland and it cost (each for 2 adults) about £400 for 4 days.

FuckItBucket · 17/03/2015 21:23

Nothing and haven't been away since 2010. Not even in the UK

My last holiday cost £94 for hotel, flight and transfer for 10 days in Portugal.

nannyafrica · 17/03/2015 21:23

CoffeeToffee,
We will spend a week at Croc Bridge we love this area. Last time we were there we had a cheetah right next to our car within 30 seconds of entering the gate. We also love Lower Sabie so maybe sometime there and a few days further north. We fly to Joburg then a quick flight to Nelspruit were we pick up the car. We are in the park at 6am and I think the last ones to leave!!!!!!! everyday.
I love to find good deals on holidays were as my boss has this year spent £200k on 4 trips this year !!!!!! OMG 3 children 2 adults

happybubblebrain · 17/03/2015 21:25

Blimey, some expensive holidays here.

I went around the world for 6 months and only spent £6,000 in total, including everything, all flights, good accommodation, food, lots of nights out, lots of adventures, lots of shopping. It was a while ago though.

Last year we went to Spain all inclusive, in the summer holidays at a really nice resort with First Choice - it cost £420 per person. And it was the best family holiday we've ever had. This year I hope to spend a similar figure, maybe a little bit more.

herecomesthsun · 17/03/2015 21:25

We (4 of us) are going to France (ferry 230ish, gite 250ish) for a week in May and Cornwall (cottage for £520) for a week in August. We like where we live as well, I've booked some extra time off work to spend here.

malefridgeblindness · 17/03/2015 21:25

Zero

We will be going camping in the glorious north. I think our domestic holiday will give the five of us change from £300

PatriciaHolm · 17/03/2015 21:27

Orlando in summer, probably 6k? Not doing disney!

Possibly australia in May, probably £4k. Did New York and Washington in October for about £5k. Skiing at easter, £2k but that's with no accommodation cost. Did france in feb half term for approx 1.5k (beautiful b&b)

Packages with Mark Warner, sunsail etc will always attract a premium; we always book flights and accommodation ourselves these days.

LittleMissX · 17/03/2015 21:29

So far approx. £40 for a Sun holiday Grin (UK)

GraceGrape · 17/03/2015 21:30

2 weeks in a gite in France in August. Booked in December with Brittany Ferries when they had a 20% discount. £1350, including ferry and car. Very reasonable I thought.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 17/03/2015 21:30

happy some people are quoting total cost and others per person, I think that's why some look expensive. Your 420 sounds cheap but if you'd written £2100 for 5 people it would look expensive :o

FreudiansSlipper · 17/03/2015 21:31

whatever the cost of flights to California about £1700

shall go for three weeks, will not spend much as staying with family we do not do the touristy things and eating out is very cheap

meglet · 17/03/2015 21:31

just the cost of petrol, and time sitting in A303 traffic jams to get to the west Country to stay with relatives. would rather not tbh but the dc's need the beach.

makemineapinot · 17/03/2015 21:32

£900 for two weeks in Greece in peak season for 3 of us. Ryanair flights, travel republic booking for 3 star apartment in really nice resort with pool, bar etc ( oh and wifi fir dc of course!!!) and resorthoopa transfer. Sorted! Just got to be ready to book as soon as the cheap flights go on sake - our flights were £35 per person each way from our local airport.

LineRunner · 17/03/2015 21:33

We went to the Middle Earth theme park in Ruritania and it was £6m each for a week. But drinks and pointless flames were included.

EveDallas · 17/03/2015 21:35

Just under 4k for 2 adults, 1 ten yr old, for 2 weeks AI in Greece in the summer holidays.

UnikittyInHerBusinessSuit · 17/03/2015 21:41

We haven't booked yet - DPs/DPILs health too uncertain to commit.

I was thinking cottage in Dorset/Norfolk but actually the way the Euro's going I'm tempted to see what we can get in Greece or Italy for October half term, or Austria/North Italy for the summer - but we don't really like driving.

Anybody got any decent suggestions for an interesting, good-value, warm but not too hot, Euro-denominated destination for a non-driving family with pre-teens? I'd love Switzerland but can't face the prices - there's something about the shock of thinking "HOW MUCH???!!!" every time you buy a can of coke or a sandwich that casts a pall over a holiday for me.

Primafacie · 17/03/2015 21:41

10k for a month in Bali ? They saw you coming.

Well aren't you a peach Notrevealing.

Don't worry about us, we know Bali pretty well. You get what you pay for. My standards are pretty high.

Primafacie · 17/03/2015 21:45

Linerunner 6m! You win hands down :o

myron · 17/03/2015 21:47

Easter - 1 week near Tarifa, Spain - 2 Adults & 2 DC
Flights x 4 = £600 (Booked in Dec)
Car Hire = £200
2 hotel rooms on HB (4* booked directly) approx. 1300 euros so approx. £1000. (Incidentally, the hotel cost for a week in August is an eye watering 3000 euros by comparison!) So, a total of £1.8K

We always take a holiday either at Easter or May half term to take advantage of the significantly lower accommodation costs compared to August. Luxury hotels/resorts can be relatively good value.

PUGaLUGS · 17/03/2015 21:48

£5200 in flights to New York for a week then we fly on to Maui in Hawaii for a further two weeks. DH, me, Ds1 (18) and Ds2 (15). We have used points that we had for our hotel in NY and swapped our timeshare weeks to Maui from Florida. Spends will be about 5/6K. We are going in August.
