to ask how much you are spending on your foreign summer family holiday this year?

I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

who cares if its a zombie thread, its still interesting

Mamabear0717 · 10/04/2016 21:54

8k for Orlando, 2 weeks, Me DH DD(4) DD(1), staying at hard rock hotel, including car hire, Disney/universal tickets, flights, spending.

liz70 · 10/04/2016 22:05

Zombie thread or not, "How much are you paying for your holiday abroad" is always going to be a relevant point of discussion. It isn't like, "Help, my three year old won't poo in the potty" revived nine years later, or something like that.

Going off topic, but does anyone know when the main package companies start selling summer 2017 holidays? I think it's around April time, but would be interested if anyone has a specific date Smile

JustBeingJuliet · 10/04/2016 22:29

AI Tenerife first week of August is costing £1200 for me and 10yo ds, then Monday to Friday at Duinrell in the Netherlands last week of August is costing £600 including flights and car hire. Just had 5 days in Somerset for £80 with Sun holidays.

backonthewagon · 10/04/2016 22:31

pandarific what dates are you going to Crete?

WotsitSandwich What dates are you going to Benidorm?

They are both really good prices!!

backonthewagon · 10/04/2016 22:45

Have just found London to Brussells via Eurostar for £29 each there and £39.50 back in August.

TriJo · 10/04/2016 22:47

Week in Ireland staying with relatives - £250 to take the car on the ferry, petrol from London to Holyhead each way etc...

pandarific · 10/04/2016 22:48

24th April to 1st May Smile. Sunshine had the good hotel prices and easy jet had good flights from gatwick when we booked 2 weeks ago. Can't wait!

eitak22 · 10/04/2016 22:55

Around 800-£1000 once you include spending money, currently spent 600. DH and I, 8 days in an apartment in Barcelona.

WotsitSandwich · 10/04/2016 23:14

WotsitSandwich What dates are you going to Benidorm?

May 11th for a week Smile thanks, I'm chuffed to have gotten the deal. Amazing reviews and the cocktail bar is right next to the elephant enclosure!

After 6 years of camping in Europe, we are pushing the boat out and having 3 weeks in California. 2 adults, 1 DC. Flights €1000 x3 + accommodation about €3000 + car hire €700...so €6700. Not including food, activities, petrol. And we need to get travel insurance.

It's 7x what we usually pay for our summer holiday, but a once in a lifetime trip. And we are trying to do it as cheaply as possible, albeit in peak season. I've found some pretty good deals on accommodation.

I am still kind of in denial about the cost of it all, but too late to turn back now...gulp.

BeALert · 11/04/2016 00:45

This is definitely a one off. DH and I are going to New York later this year. It's costing 20k. After a shit year DH booked it as a surprise for my birthday.

How are you spending that much? I'm genuinely curious. Is it an amazing hotel? Flying first class?

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 11/04/2016 00:57

God a nice thread about holidays and already the chippiness has started Hmm

Anyway. I can 'believe how organised everyone is!! We haven't even thought about yet. A vague idea it might be Portgual, but nothing definite Grin

If we do, it will probably come in at around £3000 for a fortnight.

Ha, got the zombie warning too late Grin

Helloitsme88 · 11/04/2016 06:51

We booked an AI holiday to Spain last year in September. It was last minute, we flew 3 days after booking £220 each. It rained everyday 😝

pearlylum · 11/04/2016 07:09

1K for DD and me, not booked yet, somewhere warm. OH and DS staying at home.

Stillwishihadabs · 11/04/2016 07:50

Yy book early (or last minute if you can hold your nerve). Flights and accommodation separately is usually cheaper (but not always). If you are constrained by school holidays then the very end of August is relatively cheap. Don't be afraid of anti-social flight times either very early or very late. Air Bnb is great. Think outside the box, the train is cheap and reliable for mainland Europe.
Oh and avoid Cornwall in August at all costs.

backonthewagon · 11/04/2016 07:58

I have managed to find eurostar at between £49.50 and £69.50 for adults, between £35 and £49 for children and under 4s are free. That's to Marseilles. Found a villa for the week about 20 miles away, 300m to the beach, 2 bedrooms and a pool for £363 for the week.

sulalovesbing · 11/04/2016 09:34

I used to live in Argentina and I'm wondering what she's spending 30k on!

Skivvywoman · 11/04/2016 09:37

£2400 to gran canaria for 2 week 2 adults 1 child in sept and a £1000 spending money

sulalovesbing · 11/04/2016 09:40

Patriciaholm that 4K trip to Australia... How long for and how many people? I got quoted 15k for summer holiday for 2 adults 2 kids. We would go to Sydney, barrier reef, cairns and maybe further north to cape tribulation.
