I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

Not really having a family summer holiday this year, however we are both having significant holidays/ experances with friends:
I am spending about £4,000 on a month long swimming training camp. He is spending about the same going yo the Monaco Grand Prix.
Are taking DSD to the Edinburgh festival for 10 days so will most likely spend another £500 on that (petrol from Londonish, and show tickets. Staying with friends).
Spent a week at Easter sailing as a 3 that was about £1,500.
I do really want a new kitchen but want something amazing to look forward to more.

1 week in Bavaria in a glamping pod with a family of 4 is around £400 for the ferry (Harwich night crossing - drive to Dover would be too far, and we would need a break somewhere in route to the final destination anyway) and €500 for accommodation, plus fuel.

Excited101 · 10/04/2016 14:17

Neilson, though stil expensive is usually cheaper than Mark Warner.

At this point I'm pretty relieved I only have to worry about holidays for me'

Savagebeauty · 10/04/2016 14:25

Last family holiday was 2 years ago..a week in a villa in Portugal, early July. 4 of us, about £5000.
Since then have divorced ....I prefer city breaks and plan lots of those next year when I've sold the house.

I'm taking the dc to Mexico (yukatan peninsula) for the entire summer holiday. 39 days! Dh is joining us for the last 2 weeks.

Flights - £1700 for me and dc (6 and 2), dh paid just over £600 for his
Accomodation - own villa with private pool £850 for a month then the last week were going to an AI 5* beach resort which was a bargain at £600 (kids under 8 are free)

So flights and accomodation are just under £4k for all of us, spending money on top won't be a huge amount as food and drinks are generally cheaper than in the UK,

Looks like it will cost the same as 2 weeks in Greece/Spain for a family of 4.

nowt planned so far

BG2015 · 10/04/2016 14:30

£2800 for a 10 day AI holiday to Spain, me and my 2 DS who are 16 & 13.

Then a week in Jersey with DP £950 for the 2 of us, flying and staying in a hotel B & B.

Badders123 · 10/04/2016 14:31

A week in North Yorkshire. 4 of us.
£650 for rental of a renovated old railway goods shed :)
Then petrol money to get there, spending money and eating out....
I guess it will be £1k by the time we factor it all in.

Babyroobs · 10/04/2016 14:32

£170 for a caravan in mablethorpe haven site.( 4 days)

iklboo · 10/04/2016 14:34

Week cruise round the Med is costing us £2300 for the three of us. Not all inclusive - we'll have to pay for drinks & ice creams but rest of the food is in with the price. Sailing from Southampton so that keeps the costs down.

wiccamum · 10/04/2016 14:36

£1800 for 10 days AI in Greece (Kos) for 2 adults and 1 child. We saved about £1000 by cashing in all DH Avios points...he travels a lot for work, and these came in very handy!

£4.5K for a fortnight AI in Majorca for 5 (all my dc count as adults for holiday costs)

Mablethorpe · 10/04/2016 14:41

A week in Lanzarote, family timeshare so no accommodation cost. Flights were £800 for family of four. Budgeting another £800 for spending/ food etc.

finova · 10/04/2016 14:42

£1300 for 10 days in the Vendee area of France for 4. This is in August and includes Ferry with cabin. It's with Eurocamp.

liz70 · 10/04/2016 14:42

Last year the five of us spent a fortnight in a three bedroom villa in Northern France, travelling by bus. The total cost for travel, including return taxi to bus station, plus accommodation was around £1200.

This year we're doing 2 weeks in a static on Hayling Island, accommodation cost £1600, although unlike in France we won't have the cost of car hire.

busyboysmum · 10/04/2016 14:50

We're doing 2 weeks in Puerto Pollensa the end of August. Booked flights last July and cost £200 a head. Car hire is £250 for 2 weeks. Apartment is £1000 for 2 weeks - 3 bed in centre of PP with air conditioning Wi-Fi and a pool.

I think the trick is to book your flights very early.

AmyInTheBoonies · 10/04/2016 14:53

Two adults and one 4 year old and it will be £3200 for Aruba for 14 nights. That is all inclusive so should not be many other costs but still v expensive!

teejayem · 10/04/2016 14:55

We are going to SW France with eurocamp, self drive for 2 weeks early June for £55 for the three of us, inc ferry (2 adults and one under 3 dc). I can't wait. I think we'll probably come in under a grand for the whole thing including spends, travel etc.

busyboysmum · 10/04/2016 14:57

And we're in Portugal at the moment. Paid £90 each for flights £120 for 2 weeks car hire and £500 for 2 weeks hire of a lovely villa. Weather has been lovely so far and I'd much rather be here than at home. I want to retire to the sun asap 🌞

JasperDamerel · 10/04/2016 15:00

Around £500 for flights to stay with family in France.

Stillwishihadabs · 10/04/2016 15:05

New England/NYC for a week in July - £3500
Sicily for a week in August -£2500

scotsgirl64 · 10/04/2016 15:06

£9k for 2 weeks hb in Kefalonia 2 weeks august for 5 of us ( thats 3 rooms tho!)...all 3 kids 22, 19 , 16 wanted to come so may be last family holiday
we spent an eye boggling amount going business class with Emirates to Koh Samui last year...absolutely amazing!
looking forward to holidaying outside of school holidays from next year onwards tho!

BoffinMum · 10/04/2016 15:16

£2.5k for a week in Austria. Four people.

LetMeBe · 10/04/2016 15:37

£1400, 7 nights for 2 adults, 1 & 4 year old to Greece in June booked with Thomson.
Still need to factor in taxi to and from airport in uk, transfers in Greece included in price. Accommodation 4 star hotel.
So with sightseeing, days out, shopping etc would say total cost around £2k.
Not looking forward to next year when ds will be at school, tempted to book during half term and pay fine. Anyone have experience of this?
