I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

Kids are not school age yet but as I am on ML this year we can't afford to go away well we could with my bonus but I can't face taking a toddler and baby away

We tend to go away usually in June or September [pre-baby we'd do both] and we go self catering.

Last holiday for 2 adults + an under 2 year old was 1 week in Kefalonia. Cost about £650 as we booked really early. With spending money it was just over £1.1k which included all meals / drinks etc.

makemineapinot · 20/03/2015 19:20

Defineme, booked theory's sir flights way back in October the day they released them! We had wanted a different Greek Island but got local airport to Corfu plus bags etc for £500. Booked a 3 star self catering apartment in Roda for £300 on travel republic - friend has booked a studio for £120 in same place - all for a fortnight in mid July during our school hols! Transfer is about £100. Def pays to book as soon as the flights become available as we're going away at Easter for about £500 for the three of us thru Easyjet and booking.com! Hope that helps! I don't like AI as like wandering about and trying different places every night, dc sleep late so no point in paying for breakfast anywhere as they miss it!!!

Well... we're going to Florida for free. We live in the US though so that's not really abroad.

Flying to the UK to see family in the summer. That's costing $3800 for flights for four of us. Car hire will be on points. Will stay with friends and family.

Going camping somewhere.

Pretty cheap year really.

Azquilith · 20/03/2015 19:35

Haven't been abroad for 3 years but have a cottage in the Lakes for 10 of us for probably about 2.5k all in which will hopefully be amazing :)

HueyMorganismyboyfriend · 20/03/2015 19:38

Marrakech in April about £1600 for 2 adults and hopefully Bali in October have got the time off work so just looking at flights DC are both adults now and are sorting themselves out this year so my bucket list is well and truely on!

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 20/03/2015 19:39

Forgot to say there are 4 of us (2 adults + 2 children).

TeddTess · 20/03/2015 19:52

£1100 flights and car hire to Spain for 12 days in July
Free accommodation (family villa)

£450 for 4 nights in Rome in August (air mile flights £150 taxes)

MillieMagnolia · 20/03/2015 20:41

Big one this year. Orlando and Caribbean. About 16K for five of us but may be the last big family holiday as DCs are growing up and soon will want to do their own thing. Looking forward to it. we don't usually spend so much and have taken out a loan to afford it.

SeeChooJimmy · 20/03/2015 21:01

Dh and I are going back to las vegas again in june for our 30th around £5/6k for a week.

sending dd 1&2 away for 4 nights with school next week £500 on a residential trip.

We are also planning on taking dd1&2 to new york as a surpise for their christmas this year (maybe next) depending when we decide to book probably another £5k, dd3 will be taken to florida instead as it will be too cold and boring for her we think.

Tobebythesea · 20/03/2015 21:14

Iceland for 2 adults in January £1k.

New York, Florida and the Bahamas in June. £10k (honeymoon)

Postexpatlimbo · 20/03/2015 21:22

Am amazed at confessed spending on here! Or is it just that most prolific spenders are ones most likely to stealth boast post on this thread? Our best, most imaginative hols have tended to be in the developing world, staying locally. While i love a fab 5 star hotel as a treat for s night or 2 , not my idea of a decent longer hol, boring! As for Mark Warner? Unbelievably overpriced for what it is, imho. And ao, so boring.
We are spending s lot (for us) this year but 'only' about 4% of combined gross income.

NumptyMum · 20/03/2015 21:28

If I had even 1.5k to spare, we might start being able to expand our 2 bed house into trying to fit in a 3rd room so that DS and DD don't have to share (oh, and that's by shifting things around and converting the under-stairs study). Holidays are a complete luxury - we're probably camping again.

Weebirdie · 20/03/2015 22:18

Post, perhaps people don't mind saying what they are spending on a holiday because the refuse to be apologetic or embarrassed about it and stealth boasting has nothing to do with it.

And don't forget your 4% of combined gross income is probably way more than a lot of people can afford and as such you're no different to the very people who you confess amaze you.

Postexpatlimbo · 20/03/2015 22:24

I am amazed at how many posters spend many thousands or even 10s of thousands on a hol. Cant believe this is typical of the average family or even average mner.

GoooRooo · 20/03/2015 22:29

Our holiday is 1.5% of our combined gross income, so your 4% seems quite boasty in comparison, Post Wink

It's all relative, surely?

Celticlass2 · 20/03/2015 22:32

Agree Weebirdie Post The OP asked how much people were spending on their holiday, and not surprisingly posters have responded. Not really that surprising is itWink

PrintScreen · 20/03/2015 22:32

Post, I have been an independent traveller all my life and have never entertained the idea of a package. Then last year we were taken to Mark Warner as a gift and I was partially converted. You say its boring but if you are into water sports it really isn't. And with three young kids its really relaxing in a way few other holidays could be.

Last summer i learned to windsurf and sail a boat alone. My eldest also learned to windsurf and snorkel. We snorkelled a reef together and she loved it so much we did it every day and even saw an octopus smack a turtle with a tentacle. My two youngest learned to swim and made loads of friends and could safely roam the resort giving them a sense of freedom they never had felt before. I found the tone of your post rather condescending to those who choose packages but I try not to judge and it turns out that I enjoy both.

Oh for gods sake!! Am giving my opinion- not tearing a shred off individuals! Think many are spending a lot. Am surprised. Ok now Hmm

Christinayang1 · 20/03/2015 22:33

Print

That sounds fab, my ds would love that

bedhaven · 20/03/2015 23:08

About £500 + petrol/tolls for ferry inc cabin and campsite in France for two weeks. Only £100 more than nursery fees we're saving! Have managed to save the fees as going the 2 weeks before my eldest starts school and the youngest will also be moving nursery. Too good an opportunity to miss!

Phephenson · 20/03/2015 23:22

What the F is Mark Warner?
Costing us £1300 for flights and beautiful (owners direct) apartment in majorca in school holidays.
I take basics in our one suitcase of checked luggage (toaster bags, butter, ham, cheddar, chioc croissants and cereal)
Supplement that with milk and bread and salad and that's us sorted for most breakfasts and snack lunches.
Out for all Eve meals, some lunches and most Eve entertainment for another £1000 ish. :-)

studiozero · 20/03/2015 23:25

Mark Warner is a holiday company - they offer lots of childcare and stuff for families to do activities etc.

Phephenson · 20/03/2015 23:26

DH has just piped in to say we didn't spend £1000 in spending last year, more like £600! Im more impressed than I was!

Phephenson · 20/03/2015 23:26

Thanks studiozero :-)
