I enjoy hearing what other people are doing, I don't like to compare as that is the quickest way to dissatisfaction. For those feeling like they have less money to spend than others, and who might appreciate hearing about people in a similar situation, try Netmums, I find the people on there seem to have less money to spend (generalisation).
Assuming we are talking about this calendar year, this summer we, 2 adults 2 kids, are heading to Canada in August for three weeks to visit family/friends, all accommodation free except about 10 days camping in a Provincial Park (pricey but worth it), so flights circa £2500, car rental (minivan) £1060 (should have booked earlier!), spending money, I don't know, £1000? We're being lent camping equipment / canoes so that helps.
February half term me and the kids took another trip to Canada, very unusual for us to go in the winter, can't recall the flights but one fare paid by DM and all free accommodation (DM paid for cheap cost of guest flat in her retirement village). Lots of fun skating, sledding and one day of cross-country skiing, very reasonable.
April we are heading to MIL in Devon for a few days (£80? train fare plus activities), May to near lakes for a week (DH's aunt), (£100? car rental, £100? train fare, plus activities). We are lucky to have relatives in beautiful places. Also a 3-night camping trip in July with friends, about £150 for car rental and not sure about campsite yet as is run by friend's colleague so haven't heard price.
Might be too exhausted after all that to do anything during October half term and enjoy actually just hanging out and being where we live (London).
We normally house swap for all vacations if not visiting friends, so almost never pay for accommodation, but can be a car rental cost if is a second home we are using.
Travel is important to us, we live simply otherwise (no car, etc.), say 20% of our income, but that's because DH is a student, hopefully graduating this year!
