I've spent today getting quotes for my family of 5 to spend two weeks in Spain/Italy/Greece/Turkey. I'm astounded by how much it costs to spend a fortnight away. Mark Warner quoted me over £10k for s fortnight in their cheapest resort!!!

So where are you going and how much are you paying for flights plus accommodation?

4k ish for half board in Sri Lanka for 2+2 in 4* hotel. We will be doing tours in that too as MIL will sort that out in the cost.

Tobyjugg · 18/03/2015 20:57

£Zero
Going to Scotland

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/03/2015 20:59

We are spending £1300 on a week in Northern Ireland (ferry and accommodation) and will probably have a couple of £400 weekends away

306235388 · 18/03/2015 21:02

£0 we aren't going abroad this year. We are travelling all over England and Scotland though, lots of days out during that time with the dc. Spending approx £1.2k?? At a wild guess.

TheHermitCrab · 18/03/2015 21:03

What's a holiday?

BaconAndAvocado · 18/03/2015 21:36

£12K for Once in a Lifetime Holiday to Florida in August.

To say I am beside myself with excitement is somewhat of an underestimation. Grin

Wineloffa · 18/03/2015 21:39

£4k for two weeks in a hotel in Crostia for a family of four. Mid-July.

misscarlar · 18/03/2015 22:48

we haven't booked an abroad holiday yet but we have a week self catering at butlins coming up that's costing £53 plus food and petrol

GallicGarlic · 18/03/2015 22:51

Grin Hermit. It's what people with spare time & money do when they need to change the scenery.

Me, I just print out a different picture for the wall Wink

GallicGarlic · 18/03/2015 22:53

Blimey, carlar, that's a hell of a bargain!

GallicGarlic · 18/03/2015 22:58

306, XH and I once did a year of short breaks instead of 'proper' holidays - we went out of the UK for about half of them, as we lived in London so it was an easy drive.

It came to more than the cost of a fortnight's summer holiday and a week somewhere sunny in the winter. But it was fantastic! It's just brilliant to be having an ongoing "where shall we go next?" conversation, and new experiences every couple of weeks :)

Hermit Flowers life can be tough at times.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 18/03/2015 23:53

15 k on Indonesia and Malaysia for 3 weeks ?

Where on earth did you stay ?

I don't think I spent 1500 in a month with flights. I mean I could have spent more but not £13500 more !!'

Notrevealingmyidentity · 18/03/2015 23:58

Also mamazilla would you mind telling me what your job is ?

I'm just curious I doubt I'd want to re train. I'm very happy with my job and tiny salary that stretches far up north.

I have 3 holidays planned this year.

May - a weeks Cruise in the Med which cost 3.7k because I'm a solo traveller and I have to pay solo traveller supplement. On top of that its another 2K for transfers, tours, and 2 nights in Rome and my flight is about 3k from where I live in a business Class seat. So a total of about 9k for 10 days away which is worth it for me.

Family trip to a wedding in Lebanon for 4 nights in July about 4k.

Another cruise in September, to the Artic, a total of about 10k.

Im at an age where I can do pretty much what I like travel wise so I do, and I get as much enjoyment out of a trip to the desert with a tent as I do my holidays.

MissAMinton · 19/03/2015 07:19

About £1000 on flights to Spain this Easter for 5 of us but accom is free as we're visiting my parents.

£1200 for 2 weeks in a tent with Canvas holidays to the Loire Valley, inc ferries but will need to factor in fuel/catering as extras.

We might camp in the New Forest in the summer half term but that's only 40 mins from home so will only cost a few quid in fuel and campsites fees.

Last year we tried to save by camping in Cornwall but the traffic was hideous, and the site was windy and it rained a lot that week so it wasn't the relaxing break I had envisioned!

TwinkleThis · 19/03/2015 13:00

wigglesrock I'm probably too late to catch your attention, but please please please treat yourself to dinner at Robbie's when you're in Estepona.

Ask around, as it's not easily located. Find childcare if you can because it's a great place for a "date." Then simply enjoy the atmosphere and food. I've never been anywhere like it (that was 15 years ago), and the decor inspired my downstairs loo. Smile

wigglesrock · 19/03/2015 13:08

TwinkleThis - thank you, you're a star! We're going away with lots of extra babysitters Wink

TwinkleThis · 19/03/2015 13:10

I'm delighted you saw my message. Enjoy.

SconessMcFloness · 19/03/2015 13:18

I'm loving hearing about everyone's trips, I now want to go to the Lebanon, Argentina, Japan and Morroco. Envy

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 19/03/2015 13:48

We spend about a month's post tax on holidays.

This year we've been skiing, got a weekend booked at Legoland, and then we'll have a week-10 days in France in the summer at my parents second home. Might squeeze in a long weekend at October half term as well depending on how we feel and how the finances are looking.

DodgedAnAsbo · 19/03/2015 13:54

5k to South Africa.
4 weeks travelling around in a hire car. we have the first 7 nights booked in Kruger, the rest ? we could end up anywhere :)

meowth · 19/03/2015 13:59

for me and my DP's family, so 6 people, it cost £3000. same price as 7 people last year.we're going to Portugal in May.

meowth · 19/03/2015 14:00

Sorry, thats just for flights and hotel. Will cost a lot more as we're all taking £1000 for spending money. me and DP will have £2000 between us so it should be fine.

Sgtmajormummy · 19/03/2015 14:03

I took over my Uncle's (very reputable and 100% above board) timeshare because the annual fees were starting to worry him. So we now get a week's holiday for about half the regular price. However (and this is what might interest other people) sites like Dial an Exchange are open to the public if you pay a small fee. You can find some great offers because the Timeshare Generation are now unable to go abroad and are desperate for someone to pay even part of their maintenance fees. Sounds awful, but look on it as helping out.
