to think small children shouldn't take up Tube seats?

genuinely interested as I'm currently six months pregnant with my first child and I know this is going to be me in a couple of years!

But I keep seeing mums at rush hour on really busy Tubes sitting with a small child next to them taking up another seat. Surely the nicer/politer/more sensible thing to do would be for the mum to have the child on her lap and free up a seat for someone else?

SuperFlyHigh I choose to give DD my seat. My DD is one of the tallest in her class with a boney backside to boot, I'm 5'3 and slim and she squirms because she doesn't really fit on me. She needs to sit for safety, I stand and escape her boney little bum digging in to my legs. Everyone's a winner Smile

Welcome to Mumsnet OP! We have covered the lot here, Jimmy Saville, child-hating adults, distouching briefly on racial discrimination.

You know what, despite some of the hyperbole and invective, my view on this is changing. A small vulnerable child SHOULD keep their seat. Once the child is old enough to hang on or steady themselves, they should consider standing.

Kelly Really don't get why you've got so het-up, though, really, when my comment was a) from a random online stranger and b) was so 'fucking stupid'?

Het-up Grin Now that's something I haven't had anyone call me since the 90's.
