To Feel Absolutely IRATE At The Lack Of Non-Pink Girls Clothes

Argh!!!!!

I felt fairly annoyed with gender specific clothes for DS. Now I have DD it makes me want to scream. She's not a fucking princess. She's hopefully going to be a strong independent woman.

Any tips for stores selling non pink non crap girls clothes would be MOST welcome :)

For outdoor stuff I like MuddyPuddles.

Dontstepinthecowpat · 03/03/2015 12:48

I really don't see this problem. DD has very little pink in her wardrobe, not even through conscious choice. I mainly shop in Gap, mothercare, mamas and papas and quite a bit from morrisons/sainsburys. Very rarely Next as I find that store difficult to navigate with a pushchair.

It might be because she has two big brothers I'm used to seeing beyond the pink anyway so I never find that's all I see in a store.

Zara has some beautiful clothes but they don't fit DD well. She is short and skinny.

Morelikeguidelines · 03/03/2015 12:50

My main problem with both dcs has been finding trousers that are not incredibly long in the leg.

WhosFred · 03/03/2015 12:52

She also found herself if a few "boys" clothes too but comfort was top priority. Think there is a good selection out there sometimes but last summer drive me bonkers which as someone said upthread must of tinted my specs so all I saw was pinkGrin

MerryMarigold · 03/03/2015 12:54

Vertbaudet used to be good on more colourful boys' stuff. I've never bought girls as dd gets so much hand-me-downed!

Ebay is also great. Have got things from there at times eg. if you google 'Orange dress'

Miggsie · 03/03/2015 12:54

Uniglo - and DD buys the boys shirts

wigglesrock · 03/03/2015 12:58

Am assuming she's a baby because I don't have that much of a problem finding non pink clothes for my 3 daughters, although my youngest has just turned 4. H&M, Dunnes, Sainsburys, Primark, Asda, Tesco are the main shoos I use. I don't think my 7 year old owns anything pink at all. I don't have a huge issue with pink any way. I'm a strong woman and have a very "strong" 9 year old - she doesn't care what colour she wears as long as it's comfy - her brains haven't fallen out of her head because she owns a pink pair of jeans.

miaowmix · 03/03/2015 13:01

Totally agree wigglesrock, pink per se is neither here nor there. I personally love it, and am a feminist.
I just don't especially like washed out pale pastel pinks, lilacs, or too much of one single colour.

TheFecklessFairy · 03/03/2015 13:02

I'm a strong, independent woman, OP. I also like pink. Confused

slippermaiden · 03/03/2015 13:02

I don't ever have a problem with this. Next, vertebaudet, some of the supermarkets all have some nice non pink stuff. Boden too if you are feeling rich!

stargirl1701 · 03/03/2015 13:07

Polarn O Pyret.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 03/03/2015 13:09

Where do you shop? DD is 15 months and has never really owned anything pink. Not because I've got anything massively against it, but because she's a bit ginger and it clashes Smile. She wears a lot of navy blue, purple, red, green etc. We shop in Next, Sainsburys, H&M, Baby Gap, Mothercare... I'm always a bit bemused by this thread as I've never had any problems finding non pink girls stuff.

MaryWestmacott · 03/03/2015 13:10

Am surprised you are finding this difficult now, although companies will send different parts of ranges to different stores, so I guess if you live in a 'pink loving' area, you might only have pink options.

I don't do pink on DD because she's got her Daddy's ginger colouring and looks a bit peeky in most shades of pink for sound political reasons, i normally buy her clothes in:
Sainsburys
Tescos
M&S
Gap
M&Co

she's also got a few bits from Boots, John Lewis, and Jo Jo Mamon Bebe. Most places do stock the bulk in pink but some in other colours.

One thing though, a lot won't be predominately pink, but they often can't help themselves but put some pink somewhere, so a yellow cardie just has to have pink buttons, or a pink trim on a pocket etc. As if it's really just all sorts of wrong to go with completely pink free for many clothing designers - interestingly they don't seem to have the same blue obsession for boys clothes, so will put green buttons on a green shirt etc.

DisappointedOne · 03/03/2015 13:11

"She's not a fucking princess. She's hopefully going to be a strong independent woman."

She can be all that in pink if she wants to. I prefer to offer DD the choice (he loves pink and green) and discuss the good character traits of princesses and TV characters thus giving her the choice than by banning pink outright.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 03/03/2015 13:11

We shop in the boys' section quite a bit.

InQuiteAPickle · 03/03/2015 13:12

Really? My DD2 got quite a few clothes for her birthday and there was no pink.
Actually, I'm lying. There was one pink dress that she chose herself but everything else was in shades of blue and turquoise. Most of the stuff was from Boots.

She did choose an Olaf t-shirt from Next but it's grey.

weebarra · 03/03/2015 13:13

Gap
frugi
Jojo
Polarn o pyret
Sainsburys

All do nice stuff!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 03/03/2015 13:14

Also, I class myself as a strong independent woman and I sometimes wear pink. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

BikeRunSki · 03/03/2015 13:15

John Lewis, H&m and Sainsbury's boys stuff is pretty gender neutral.

Toby Tiger is ggggggreat too.

InQuiteAPickle · 03/03/2015 13:15

Nowt wrong with pink, btw. It's just a colour.

MonstrousRatbag · 03/03/2015 13:16

If I were you, I would let your DD get the pink preoccupation over and done with early!

SuperFlyHigh · 03/03/2015 13:16

La redoute has nice kids clothes also Petit Bateau, H&M etc.

depends if you totally want to go French schoolgirl stuff which navy/white is very cute can look boring I was dressed like this up until a teen no word of a lie by my chic mother, boak

SuperFlyHigh · 03/03/2015 13:17

denim isn't pink too

Damnautocorrect · 03/03/2015 13:17

It annoys me too, it's a sea of pink. Girls must be dressed head to toe in pink.
I like pink it's nice but not an entire wardrobe.
Has anyone else noticed boys departments are suddenly a lot smaller and shoved in the corner

RatMort · 03/03/2015 13:19

Children's clothes designers are either the most gender-essentialist people on the planet, or the market actually (mystifyingly) wants heavily gendered clothes for young children. I don't have a daughter, but I get cross at having to wade through rails of sludge-coloured clothes in order to find the few items that are bright colours for my son. He's TWO, for fuck's sake! He doesn't need the navy/khaki/grey/bottle green school uniform look for a while!
