J'Accuse... I do not believe a sizeable minority on here when they say "I blah blah blah"

E.g. :-
"I cook from scratch" - I hate "from scratch". We used to say "everything was homemade".

And those of you who state "homemade potato wedges" Hmm? ...yeah, I'm impressed. So that would be some potatoes shoved in the oven then?

Get back of Iceland cooked frozen chicken chunks. Chuck in slow cooker. Cover with chicken stock. Break up a sheet of noodles. Chuck in slow cooker. Add a can of sweetcorn. Season. Cook for a bit. Stir a beat up egg through it. Add some chopped spring onion if you're feeling fancy. Dump in a bowl. Eat.

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 09:43

Or I can send DH to Tesco. Pop tub in microwave, pour in a bowl and eat. All for £1.60.

I'm at SW, the irony of giving your child a giant sized bag of smarties while here is clearly missed

iklboo · 24/02/2015 10:08

That is a much more preferable option Katie! As well as 'order extra next time we have a takeaway & freeze'.

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 10:21

I'm really bad about stuff like this.
I don't do cooking at all.
DH and the fully grown DC used to wince when I announced any intention to prepare food from scratch. I am disinterested to the point of food poisoning Smile
For example, today I am on leave. DH is not.
I have a well stocked kitchen full of cookingy stuff. I am beginning to contemplate eating.
I also have a bank card and a car.
My thoughts are not, what can I make?
They are, what can I go out and get?
We have M+S, Tesco, Asda, Greggs, Co-op, Starbucks, McD's (not keen), KFC (ditto) and local lunchtime takeaways. And if I really CBA, Just Eat.
I am healthy and slim (fuck knows how) and have too much choice. Any suggestions?

iklboo · 24/02/2015 10:30

DS(9) made quiche on Sunday & scones yesterday. I'm hoping never to have to cook again by Year 6! Grin

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 10:37

Quite fancy a scone actually. Off to Greggs for a tuna sandwich and a scone, thanks ikl Smile

TheCuntOfMonteCristo · 24/02/2015 10:44

Our local cake shop sells the most incredibly squishy and delish cakes. The staff trained for years to make cakes like that.

So surely it would be a incredibly stupid, not to say arrogant, to spend my time baking a cake, no?

iklboo · 24/02/2015 10:50

You're supporting local businesses & the economy by doing so Grin

iklboo · 24/02/2015 10:51

Buying the cakes, I mean. PLUS you're being green by saving YOUR gas & electricity. Win win.

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 11:07

Hehe, I love you guys Grin

J'Accuse... I do not believe a sizeable minority on here when they say "I blah blah blah"
TheCuntOfMonteCristo · 24/02/2015 11:18

So it's almost like a moral obligation to go and by a cake right now isn't it?

This is why I love Mumsnet. Ordered to go and scarf 800 calories while being assured it is my ethical duty to do so Smile

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 11:21

Yes, it would be extremely unethical to go back on the cakey goodness now.
Just like it's ok for me to go to the gym tomorrow instead of now, right?
My Friends box set would be sad if I didn't lie around all afternoon binge-watching and we can't have that, can we?

iklboo · 24/02/2015 11:26

As I've been watching Medium I've had a premonition that tomorrow at the gym will be better as you will have cakey goodness to deal with. Your work out will be more rewarding.

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 11:29

Oh yes, a sign!
Also as I'm already wearing my gym kit, my body will know I intended to go so will absorb those calories quicker. I'm sure I read about that somewhere...

Yabu to post in French you second language speaking twat. Grin
I agree with the rest. I can't abide boasting.

Momagain1 · 24/02/2015 12:46

ego friendly greenhouse

I like that. All the organic stuff at Waitrose is ego friendly, isn't it?

I think living has coined a new MN thing. That aline justifies this whole thread.

I het a riast dinner and a chicken pie oyt of a chicken. If I can be bothered to boil the carcass, it goes right toward the making of the gravy. It makes the gravy you make from the little pot of gravy goo ever so much nicer! ??

Momagain1 · 24/02/2015 12:46

I get a roast dinner and a pie.

kungfupannda · 24/02/2015 12:48

I cooked from scratch yesterday. It did not end well. I mentioned up thread that I've been making a lot of veg soup in an attempt to lose a bit of weight, and I have a recipe for this strong-flavoured pesto-like thing (no pine-nuts) that you stir into soup.

I now have pesto stuff on the ceiling. Don't ask.

bigkidsdidit · 24/02/2015 12:48

we've had a long couple of days here so I've got a little 'it's no-one's birthday' party for my DCs' tea tonight :) cocktail sausages, sausage rolls, blueberries and strawberries, crisps and a little trifle each with a candle in Grin

I can't wait to see their little faces. Quinoa would not be the same!

MajesticWhine · 24/02/2015 13:34

that's a lovely idea bigkidsdidit, gonna keep that one in mind.
kungfupannda you see it's dangerous Grin. That'll learn you for posting about quinoa on mumsnet.

Bettercallsaul1 · 24/02/2015 13:56

That. is lovely, bigkidsdidit and will do your kids a lot more good than forcefeeding them poached salmon and broccoli every night! We are not just bodies to be nourished sensibly - happiness matters too and that is what you are providing for your children!

KikitheKitKat · 24/02/2015 14:08

Sorry I don't have time to read all 29 pages(!) but there is a lot about sanctimony over food here. What about the "I wash all the towels and bedclothes twice a day" brigade?

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 14:21

Me, I wash all my towels after a single use.
Don't give a rats arse if you don't though. Smile I like fluffy clean towels, bubble baths, potions and toiletries. Other people don't and that's fine too. It's a nurturing thing for me. Clean towels make me happy.
(Easily pleased)
Wink

Bettercallsaul1 · 24/02/2015 14:30

But that's the best reason to do it, KatieScarlett - for yourself, not for a censuring world! And because it makes you happy! That's what this thread is about (I think! Grin
