J'Accuse... I do not believe a sizeable minority on here when they say "I blah blah blah"

E.g. :-
"I cook from scratch" - I hate "from scratch". We used to say "everything was homemade".

And those of you who state "homemade potato wedges" Hmm? ...yeah, I'm impressed. So that would be some potatoes shoved in the oven then?

I made a Mexican feast, I "pan fried" some mince and frozen onion, stuffed it into "oven baked" taco shells and garnished with grated full fat cheese

HootyMcTooty · 23/02/2015 21:29

Chicken kievs and spuds. I win!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 23/02/2015 21:41

I have let the side down and cooked from scratch tonight.

Savoury rice with proper vegetables that I chopped myself and brown rice.

Tbf - the kids won't eat it. They had chicken that they had brushed with hoisin sauce before chucking in the air fryer. Served with Uncle Ben's sachet rice. Tomorrow DH will feed them crap .

DH made pork chops, carroty mash and veg.
Penance for the cheezy pasta.
I have no idea what the DC ate. I suspect bagels were involved.

Ouchbloodyouch · 23/02/2015 21:54

I fed my children doughnuts for tea dinner tonight. I was going to give them chippy tea but they declined because we went 3 times last week.

Ouchbloodyouch · 23/02/2015 21:57

Oh and a bonus was they were only 25 pence from co-op!

KatieScarlettreregged · 23/02/2015 21:59

Can I come live at yours ouch?
Mmmm, chippy and doughnuts, sounds like heaven. With a big chippy pickled onion to make it healthy.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 22:14

Ouch I'm jealous!! I'm on SW and would genuinely kill for a donut right now (settling for tinned chicken noodle soup insteadHmm)

Salmotrutta · 23/02/2015 22:41

But chicken noodle soup sounds so, erm, delicious WindMeUp...

katie by all means. No chance of scurvy. Full of vitamin c those spuds! I spent a whole week cooking from scratch making stuff. I had one child look over everything like a forensic scientist and the other polite little soul declare everything I made was 'nice but could I not make it again' ungrateful feckers. Angry

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 22:52

Sal i quite like it and it's only 6 syns, I really wanted to eat the chocolate rich teas in the cupboard but it's weigh day tomorrow so can't screw it up now!!

PacificDogwood · 23/02/2015 22:54

I made chicken noodle soup from my own made-from-scratch chicken stock - it was delish, even if I say so myself Grin

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 22:55

Mine was Heinz out the tin, though I did make lentil and bacon soup last week - no tins involved

Salmotrutta · 23/02/2015 23:57

But soup is The Easiest Food In The World To Make.

So it doesn't count as A Thing.

Everyone can make soup - even if they just sling a bunch of crap into a pot and shout "Goodnight Vienna" it makes a decent soup.

Or "potage" if you prefer...

Salmotrutta · 23/02/2015 23:58

I don't really know why I put "Goodnight Vienna" in there...

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 24/02/2015 00:44

So I still failed after making soup lol

kickassangel · 24/02/2015 02:56

let's face it, casserole is leftovers in gravy. soup is left over casserole in thin gravy put through a mixer.

Bacon butties take more effort imo.

tiredvommachine · 24/02/2015 03:01

Stop with the food porn, you're making me hungry Biscuit

CheerfulYank · 24/02/2015 04:24

DS carried baby DD up nine stairs and put her on the landing before I caught him. She somersaulted down and lay stunned at the bottom.

I held it together until we were in the ER but started to cry, explaining to the doctor "it's just that she's never been hurt before!" She (lovely no-nonsense Polish woman) said "your son, yes, he has been hurt before? And he is fine. Babies...are like balls. The bouncing balls? When they are older, they are not so. She is fine." :)

livingzuid · 24/02/2015 05:54

Ah thank you all. She's just got her first tooth so is feeling a bit sorry for herself anyway but lots of cuddles and a sleep have helped. So much so she was wide awake and banging on her cot to be released at 5am. Had to spend the evening listening to dark mutterings about having 'failed his daughter' and 'making her bleed' (if there was more than a tenth of a teaspoon of blood I would have been amazed) and 'never holding her again'. I did draw the line at 'she won't want me' and accused him of amateur dramatics. Normal service seems to have been restored this morning though as they are currently in bed snoozing together.

I mentioned it as it reminded me of a thread a while ago where a small minority (thankfully) of posters were quite Shock Shock at someone being so careless as to let their babies hurt themselves and how they had never done such a thing. Now that I am convinced is a lie!

In order to cheer myself up last night I admittedly cooked from scratch with a salad and steak. Although I did not go quite as far as to forage for my own nuts and greens did not come from my ego friendly greenhouse but came pre-washed in a bag. And the bernaise sauce was straight from a jar. So perhaps not quite so much from scratch but if I served that up at a dinner party I could easily pull it off!

livingzuid · 24/02/2015 05:55

Sigh. Eco not ego.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 24/02/2015 08:39

Bugger, must try harder..........

TheFairyCaravan · 24/02/2015 09:17

The vital ingredient to making soup is the MN magic chikcen. First it will have done a roast, then a curry, next a pie, after that a risotto, then you boil up the carcass to make the stock for your soup.

In this house reality a chicken does a roast and a couple of sandwiches if you're lucky!

KatieScarlettreregged · 24/02/2015 09:30

Chicken. I like chicken.
I like to pick out all the nice bits, eat it with some gravy and chuck the crappy bits in the bin.
If I want chicken soup, I get DH to buy a nice tub of it from Tesco.
