J'Accuse... I do not believe a sizeable minority on here when they say "I blah blah blah"

E.g. :-
"I cook from scratch" - I hate "from scratch". We used to say "everything was homemade".

And those of you who state "homemade potato wedges" Hmm? ...yeah, I'm impressed. So that would be some potatoes shoved in the oven then?

There is another MN thread at the moment with a serious discussion of the pros and cons of parents using phones to track their DCs location.
Is it just me that finds that level
of surveillance frankly disturbing?
My DCs tell me where they're going and we agree when they'll get back. I trust them to go where they said and return on time. I thought that was normal, but apparently in the batshit crazy MN world you need to know exactly where they are at all times.
Creepy...

They are wonderfully soft- the wind does that. Towels come in lovely and fluffy- even jeans are soft.
Of course I live in Scotland - the water is very soft here, no need for fabric softener and no horrible limescale deposits.

I hate my tumble drier and hate the feel of tumble dried clothes. Apparently that makes me some sort of liar Hmm ??

lucymam · 23/02/2015 08:58

My partner does all the washing and is too lazy to hang clothes outside to dry, so uses the tumble drier. I don't care, as long as they get washed and dried without me having to do anything.

bigbluestars · 23/02/2015 08:59

I have clothes out today. Although snow is forecast for lunchtime, we have bright sun and a brisk wind. The clothes will be almost dry in a couple of hours.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 09:10

But big - if it dries outside it needs ironing, so many better ways to waste your time!!

funnyossity · 23/02/2015 09:11

Nooo! Drying outside in the wind makes the wrinkles fall out - no ironing in this house.

bigbluestars · 23/02/2015 09:23

No the opposite windmeup- wind takes out the creases.

I don't own an iron.

bigbluestars · 23/02/2015 09:23

funny- I agree.

KatieScarlettreregged · 23/02/2015 09:29

I love line drying too, especially for bed linen but as I also live in Scotland and work FT (leave this week, yay) it's hard to put out and go since the rain is never far away.
Weekends though, never happier than watching the clean stuff dancing on the line and on my rotary thingy. I still tumble dry towels though as they are not the same when line dried.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/02/2015 09:43

There's nothing better than line dry clothes. I do use my dryer when necessary and I do iron because I like ironing. I love the smell of line dry clothes when I'm ironing. I think I am a freak of nature!

I need a new dryer so I might look for one that sings. I've got a new washer that beeps when it finishes, if you don't jump up and turn it off it beeps again louder, then about 30 seconds it beeps even fucking louder! It pisses me off.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 10:02

See I take everything out the drier warm, shake it and fold it and not a crease in sight - even DS1 school shirts, yet line dried stuff looks horrendous to me!

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 10:04

Will rephrase - my line dried stuff looks horrendous to me

KatieScarlettreregged · 23/02/2015 10:07

It also helps if your dryer holds more than your washing machine. Eg machine is 6k and dryer 7k.
That way you can't overload the dryer so your clothes can dance around and come out creaseless.

momb · 23/02/2015 10:21

Oh feck off.
We live in squalor, never tidy, barely clean, never iron, perpetually knackered and am very aware my children would like to see more of me but I'm always working or on here.
Cooking using real (cheaper) ingredients is my only good mum thing. Don't spoil it for me!

KatieScarlettreregged · 23/02/2015 10:28

Whatever gets you through the night momb Grin

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 10:36

I tumble nearly everything, though NEVER football shirts, I value my life too much

bigkidsdidit · 23/02/2015 11:01

I had to give up tumbling, it was making me feel fat. I thought I was putting on weight till I bought the exact same pair of jeans again and discovered the tumbler had shrunk them width and length ways Shock

And tumbled clothes always feel to be like they've already been worn. I like crunchy clothes!

PacificDogwood · 23/02/2015 11:07

Oh no, don't let this most excellent thread descend in to a line vs dryer bun fight Hmm

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 11:11

Lol I do have to do squats in my jeans to loosen them up after they've been tumbled!!! Can't be doing with them crunchy though

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 11:13

All 3 DS went off to school with a satisfying breakfast of Cookie Crisp, I did pour it into bowls and add milk myself - does that count?

treaclesoda · 23/02/2015 11:42

I love hanging out the washing, but honestly at this time of year the air here is so damp that I could hang stuff out all day and it would be nowhere near dry by the end of the day. You know that line from Angelas Ashes that goes 'but most of all, we were damp' (or something like that). I remember reading that and thinking 'yes, that pretty much sums up life on the island of Ireland. Thank goodness we have tumble driers these days'. Grin

However, I am essentially very stingy, so even though I love my soft tumble dried clothes, I hate paying for the privilege.

Roobix04 · 23/02/2015 11:42

Well my mum did point out that if I ironed dd's stuff it would feel just as soft. Balls to that!
Does it make me a super mum if dd eats relatively healthily but me and dp eat greasy crap. Cos last night dd had fish, swede and pasta and then when she went to bed we had a big dirty takeaway. I timed the delivery of a takeaway wrong once and dd was still awake. She spent the whole time kicking me and trying to steal chips. Never again.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/02/2015 11:48

Roobix we do that too, and I have to stand guard waiting for it to be delivered so the dogs don't bark and wake the kids up!!
