Cleaner stealing my loo roll!

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 20:59

I think my cleaner is stealing loo roll. Ive noticed it for a few weeks and i counted them today, there were 2 full rolls missing. Should I say something or just leave it. I'm just concerned that she could be taking other things too. I said it to my DH and he thinks we should just leave it. I said it to my weird friend and she thinks i should put chilli powder on a roll the next time!!!

I love your friend! And hope this becomes a thread on home booby traps Smile

jackydanny · 20/02/2015 21:04

Ask her?

toldmywrath · 20/02/2015 21:04

She must be hard up (or perhaps likes the illicit thrill) so I'd just let it go if I was you.Or hide the spares when she's due to clean. I honestly don't think this means she would take other things though.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 20/02/2015 21:05

Jack is being rather silly. I would wonder if she was taking other stuff too...

toldmywrath · 20/02/2015 21:05

No- don't ask her unless you want her to stop cleaning for you. How is your relationship with her otherwise?

Mrsteddyruxpin · 20/02/2015 21:05

That's awful. I would change cleaner and tell her you aren't happy with the job.

toldmywrath · 20/02/2015 21:06

I bet someone suggests installing a spy camera!

SonnyJimBob · 20/02/2015 21:08

You 'think' or you 'know'. If you know, then you confront her and ask her to leave. She steals one thing, then she could possibly be stealing more.

Why let someone into your home who will steal from you? Once the trust is gone, it's the death of any professional relationship in my eyes.

sliceofsoup · 20/02/2015 21:09

Maybe she is using it to clean?

fattymcfatfat · 20/02/2015 21:12

I agree with your friend OP Grin

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:13

Not a chance she is using two full rolls of toilet full and 6 or 7 cloths to clean!

captainfarrell · 20/02/2015 21:13

I'd keep monitoring it. If it was a one off i'd let it go but if it's happening every week you've got a problem. It's dishonest and you need to be able to trust her in your home.

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:14

Iv been thinking it for ages and I just happened to remember this morning to count and there was 1 roll missing from downstairs toilet and 1 from en suite

OP posts:
captainfarrell · 20/02/2015 21:16

Write it down and keep doing so for say a month if you can bare to keep quiet that long. Then there's no real excuse other than premeditated theft!

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:18

I thought I'd ask DH to count next Friday morning and see but I know it's happening every week, for ages i couldn't believe how much toilet roll we were going through, thought it was me going to toilet all the time since becoming pregnancy but now I know! I'm convinced she used to take kitchen roll too but stopped buying it as we were going through so much and it was costing a fortune

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:20

DH is hoping this is going to get me to give him the go ahead for putting cameras up in the house-not a chance!

OP posts:
captainfarrell · 20/02/2015 21:20

How awful. I guess you're going to face her then. I couldn't relax knowing she was in my house! Good luck.

PeaceOfWildThings · 20/02/2015 21:25

Could she be tidying it away somewhere out of sight? Some cleaners seem to think loo roll should be hidden!

If not, then just find a new cleaner. No point inviting a thief into your home on a regular basis.

notnaice · 20/02/2015 21:25

I couldn't cope once the trust has gone.

KingJoffreyObviouslyWatchesHol · 20/02/2015 21:27

Write 'stop stealing my bog roll' on them in Sharpie.

Then turn them round. She'll only know if she takes them.

BifsWif · 20/02/2015 21:29

Although it may seem petty, theft is theft. Like a PP said, the trust is gone and I couldn't have her working in my house.

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:30

I didn't count the rolls in the hot press but she didn't put them in there, she could be taking more from there!

I'll monitor it next Friday and make decision then. I hate the thought of firing her and having to look for someone again. I just find it hard to believe someone would only take toilet roll. Will need to change the locks too as she has a key

steff13 · 20/02/2015 21:30

Maybe your husband is hiding it to try to convince you that you need cameras. Wink

She doesn't really use toilet paper to clean, does she?

ShizeItsWeegie · 20/02/2015 21:31

Quite like the chilli powder idea actually Grin If she phones in cos she has an arse like a chewed orange you'll know!

captainfarrell · 20/02/2015 21:32

Love that suggestion king
