Cleaner stealing my loo roll!

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 20:59

I think my cleaner is stealing loo roll. Ive noticed it for a few weeks and i counted them today, there were 2 full rolls missing. Should I say something or just leave it. I'm just concerned that she could be taking other things too. I said it to my DH and he thinks we should just leave it. I said it to my weird friend and she thinks i should put chilli powder on a roll the next time!!!

Arrange them in a pyramid formation! Then it'll be really obvious if one goes missing.

guilianna · 20/02/2015 21:36

How much are you paying her? stealing loo roll = skint

Royalsighness · 20/02/2015 21:36

She might be using it to wipe and buff after cleaning, I sometimes do if we have no kitchen roll as I like the finish it leaves. I can get through a roll cleaning the upstairs if I'm being thorough.

ZacharyQuack · 20/02/2015 21:37

Unroll it and write "I know what you did" on the paper, then carefully roll it back up.

TrollsTrollsEverywhere · 20/02/2015 21:38

if you know she is taking them then you should sack her. If you are not sure then I think you should try and confirm it one way or another.

captainfarrell · 20/02/2015 21:39

If she is using it to clean then the cardboard tubes should be in the bin/recycling. You could mark the inside of the tubes if you want to play detective.

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:40

I pay her 10 Euro an hour and she gets paid for 2 hours but I know she doesn't work the full 2 hours but I didn't mind because she did an alright job

OP posts:
PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:43

There is just no way she uses two full toilet rolls and a whole bunch of cloths to clean and all she has to do is Hoover and wash floors and clean 2 toilets and on the rare occasion she smears all my mirrors for some weird reason!

OP posts:
TrollsTrollsEverywhere · 20/02/2015 21:43

So she is stealing time too Confused. I know some people are happy to pay for the job but I make it clear to my cleaners that i want them to work for the time I pay them (I don't mind the odd ciggie break)

I'd sack her.

rockybalboa · 20/02/2015 21:43

Are you there when she comes or out? I assume out so maybe leave her a note asking her not to use the toilet roll or kitchen roll to clean with and to let you know if she needs more cloths. Seems odd if that's all she's nicking so maybe there is an explanation.

SaucyJack · 20/02/2015 21:43

Write out her notice for her on a small piece of paper...... then carefully slide it in halfway down a roll of poo paper.

Or just start buying value stuff that's not worth pinching.

toldmywrath · 20/02/2015 21:46

I bet she's trying to clean the mirrors but ends up with smears (I have that problem-it's a pain)

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:46

Haha Saucy, I actually always buy the really nice soft stuff!!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 20/02/2015 21:46

Hot press? What's a hot press?

PeaceOfWildThings · 20/02/2015 21:47

It's a massive linen cupboard.

KingJoffreyObviouslyWatchesHol · 20/02/2015 21:47

If you sack her then write her notice out on loo roll.

She obviously likes it.

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:48

I don't think I could ask her what's she doing with them I would just have to let her go

OP posts:
guilianna · 20/02/2015 21:48

Trial and deportation. Less mercy for quilted.

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:50

A hot press must be an Irish thing! It's where the hot water tank is stored and has some shelves that you put your bed sheets towels etc

OP posts:
Mintyy · 20/02/2015 21:51

Well if you are certain then you have to let her go. But do let her know that you know iyswim.

PebbleTTC · 20/02/2015 21:54

If you accuse someone of stealing could you be in trouble? Would it not be better to just say unfortunately I don't need your services any more?

OP posts:
bettyboop1970 · 20/02/2015 21:54

I call that an airing cupboard, but then I'm working class!!!! Perhaps she had the shits that day.Grin

SaucyJack · 20/02/2015 21:55

I think it's an airing cupboard in English?

Are you arty? Draw one big picture with permanent marker over all of the rolls on the shelf so it'll be really obvious if one gets swiped. Possibly a tiger. Or a kangaroo.

Or just superglue every single roll to the shelf. Be an arse to get off later, but it'll really duck with her head when she can't get one down.

buffersandbumpers · 20/02/2015 22:01

Get rid. The trust isn't there and it will just eat away at you whilst she continues coming into your house. Trust is vital with a cleaner.

Bettercallsaul1 · 20/02/2015 22:01

What to do depends on the effect this has had on your relationship, OP. Has it gone down the pan completely or do you think you could paper over the cracks? You could ask her but you might get a tissue of lies.
