to not want to speak to this lady again?

DD1 has recently befriended a new girl at her gymnastics classes. She has a brother the same age as DS1 so we invited them around for dinner last weekend.

I have a small hobby that involves me making clothes for my younger DC out of vintage clothes patterns. DD1 happened to be wearing a pale blue smocked dress and DD2 was wearing a pale pink one in a similar design. She asked wear I got these "delightful dresses" from and I told her that I had made them. She then replied with these exact words. "That's a little bit pretentious if you ask me". Then continued talking as if nothing happened. As the night continued, she made snide remarks at certain things. I could have forgiven her if she'd left it at that.

The next gymnastics lesson came and as you do, I was sat on the toilet when I heard her talking about me to another woman saying stuff like. "They were wearing the most hideous dresses that she brought upon herself to make" and "Who actually eats lobster in this day in age". The last one made did it for me. "The size of the house was so large, it looked like Hogwarts had come to life- bet the husband sells drugs." I burst out of the toilet and she saw me, gulped and took off like a five year old, leaving the other lady behind to look all flustered. I was so astounded that any adult would say that. I have no idea what to do. DH has laughed about it and told me she is pathetic, but we are going to a special class tonight when they open the gym up and let you do whatever, and I know she's going to be there. What the hell should I do???

Actually, our local gymnastics centre does fitness classes for adults where you use the equipment - it's great fun!

Alexaa · 19/02/2015 17:27

Yes well I'd love to have ago with you but I'm afraid I'd probably damage something just from warming up Grin StillStayingClassySanDiego

Hold your head high and watch her squirm. Clearly jealous as fuck!

Groovee · 19/02/2015 17:28

I'd plaster on a smile and just concentrate on your own dd.

Alexaa · 19/02/2015 17:28

Sounds like fun but I'm not one for flexibility bumbleymummy

kill her with kindness and watch her squirm poor you. lobster sounds great. I love vintage dresses but me and my sowing machine are not on speaking terms after a nasty experience making a cushion cover.

HellKitty · 19/02/2015 17:28

We're hoping to move to a naice big house soon and we look like drug dealers! We're not though. Honest. I'd run with it Wink

ThingummyJigg · 19/02/2015 17:29

I would freely tell everyone what she said at your house and also in the loos.

If she's happy to be a nasty gossip only fair to let everyone know. So she can either find a similar whingebag bitter old bastard to moan with, or to warn everyone not to get too friendly with her.

Also, sit near her this evening and sew her to her chair.

Alexaa · 19/02/2015 17:30

Yes I can pull it off, so can DH if I scruff him up a bit. Course, I still think she'd be jealous even then Grin HellKitty

Where did you get the picture of my house from bumbleymummy? Grin

Alexaa · 19/02/2015 17:33

Okay, got my needles and thread at the ready, will be stitching the gossiping arse of hers to the seat. Will embroider my initials on it as well so she truly knows who her little friend is ThingummyJig thanks for the idea!

I gave her the address and she stood outside off course!! Grin Manic3mum

Everything is out in the open. She knows you heard her, you know she knows. There was a bemused embarrassed witness too.

What next? Be grateful you know she's bad news so you don't need to speak to her again. Quite simple.

Have something ready if she does try to speak to you again? What, I don't know.

Hoping you have someone else nice at this club to chat to? Also hoping its just this one club where you have to see her?

Alexaa · 19/02/2015 17:38

Luckily yes, she lives the other side of the club and I never bump into her anywhere else- apart from food shopping near the club...my DD's friend is moving up into her group so soon I will have a mother who I know well to talk to but unfortunately I can see this being turned into a film- Parent Wars!! Confused

Sewing clothes is a great hobby!

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 19/02/2015 17:39

she's clearly eaten up with jealousy. You don't actually need to do or say anything. She knows you heard her. That'll bother her far more than anything you could say to her. Just give her the odd bit of direct eye contact and she'll do the rest to herself.

Alexaa · 19/02/2015 17:42

I can do scary eyes...although it may not give me a big enough feeling of satisfactory....

Nomama · 19/02/2015 17:43

Yes, an occasional look and a (genuine) smile. Otherwise carry on regardless.

Hell, invite the kids back for another tea Smile

Sod her, and the jealous horse she rode in on!

Trickydecision · 19/02/2015 17:44

Much as I would love to see pictures of your drug dealer's mansion, I would be even happier to see photos of your DDs' dresses. They sound lovely.

TheWitTank · 19/02/2015 17:49

I would guarantee you won't have to avoid her -she will be avoiding you like the plague. I bet she is mortified at being busted bitching.

Janethegirl · 19/02/2015 17:50

My local chippy has lobster on the menu on most Thursdays and Fridays. Smile

dixiechick1975 · 19/02/2015 17:50

Was from Lidl freezer section? Have been wondering if it is nice.

Ignore her. She is the one who has made an utter fool of herself.

hmc · 19/02/2015 17:51

I think the posters who accused you of stealth boasting are cut from the same cloth as the woman from gym club who slated you!

GoEasyPudding · 19/02/2015 17:59

So glad you don't have to see her around too much. Phew!

whothehellknows · 19/02/2015 18:06

Another request for dress pics to shamelessly steal ideas Grin
