AIBU to think MN should ban grammar and spelling pedantry on all forums except the one explicitly for this purpose.
It is so F*cking tedious!

goring its short for Spelling and Grammar. I will likely be 'taken out' for using it. If I disappear, check under the patio at pedants corner Grin

MetallicBeige · 18/02/2015 13:24

Spelling and Grammar Goring.

bruffin · 18/02/2015 13:25

Goringbit
SPAG is spelling and grammar

ovaryhill · 18/02/2015 13:27

I have a friend who loves reading mumsnet, however she won't join because she has seen the threads where people get torn apart for bad grammar or spelling
She has dyslexia and often gets words and spelling wrong and would be so upset to pulled up on it as she is very self conscious
There have been times where she could have really benefited from some advice on here and has often said that she wishes she could post
So, the end result of this is someone who could really do with advice on here is being denied it because of all the arseholery/pedantry regarding spelling
I would be utterly ashamed of myself if I ever felt the need to pull someone up on their spelling /use of paragraphs

Behindthepaintedgarden · 18/02/2015 13:28

Lulu there are so many errors in your post it would take ages to point them out.
Maybe focus on your own spelling and grammar instead of pointing out other people's errors on MN.

JeanneDeMontbaston · 18/02/2015 13:30

ovary, please tell her to come along in! She can buddy up with me. I am happy telling the grammar police where to shove it.

bruffin · 18/02/2015 13:31

Paragraphs make threads easier for dyslexics to read as well!

Firesidetreat · 18/02/2015 13:31

I'm glad you said that, Behind Grin

Behindthepaintedgarden · 18/02/2015 13:37

I just had to Fireside Grin

Quiero · 18/02/2015 13:38

Lulu your experience has absolutely no bearing on this whatsoever. It is vital in your job to have spot on spelling and grammar. Yet, interestingly you admittedly don't. You say you'd rather have it pointed out. Well here you go. Your grammar is very poor. I'd be wary of correcting parents if I were you as I don't think you have enough of a grasp of the basics.

And from now on, every time you post I will analyse it and correct it. Seeing as it's so important for your job and all that.

Or am I being fucking horrible by doing that?

GoringBit · 18/02/2015 13:39

Thanks all - seems so obvious when you know.

Oh and I'll keep that in mind, Lois. Grin

LuluJakey1 · 18/02/2015 13:40

I haven't pointed anyone's out! I simply said that I think it is reasonable to do so if it's clear they are not just a typo, it has not already been pointed out and it is done kindly.

As I said, we all make them. I am happy for you to point all of mine out. I was hoping someone would. Grin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 18/02/2015 13:41

boffin I thinks its the aggressive sarky tone some posters use that bothers me rather than the asking for paragraphs.
"my eyes are bleeding" etc. Especially if someone is looking for help.

Behindthepaintedgarden · 18/02/2015 13:43

But Lulu we're not talking about one or two errors. Your post is riddled with mistakes, and yet you criticise parents who send in badly written notes and letters to school.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 18/02/2015 13:43

I thinks its? I think it is* Confused

I'm just asking for trouble now Grin

emotionsecho · 18/02/2015 13:44

Indeed Behind and even more of a delicious irony when the phrase 'hoist by your own petard' was used by Lulu.

Now, Lulu, would it be fair of me to judge you purely on your last post and conclude that I would have no confidence in you teaching my children correct grammar and spelling?

Also, it is interesting to see Queiro, Behind and Fireside now joining in and being nasty to me about my mistakes. Grin

Queiro, please do feel free to correct all of my posts in detail if it makes you happy. It won't upset me a jot. I would be interested. I am slack with my use of commas and given to spelling typos on my iPad. Anything else, I need the correction. I am self-taught so happy to learn from those who know better. Smile

LikeIcan · 18/02/2015 13:52

That's it Lois - I'm happy to be corrected ( but god knows it would be a full time job for somebody ) if it's done in a helpful non sarky way. It's the sneery tone that's annoying. But I've seen the sneery tone used for things other than grammar. There's no point ignoring bad grammar if you sneer snobbily at other things.

LuluJakey1 · 18/02/2015 13:53

emotionsecho Do you think I should have written 'with' instead of 'by'? I thought either was acceptable but am happy to be advised by you. Smile

Judge me as you see fit. Smile

Mintyy · 18/02/2015 13:53

Lulu, I can't even begin to start on how ironic it is that you posted that message.

What was the thread last night? Can anyone link? I'd like to put the tedious grammar correctors on my spreadshit please.

Behindthepaintedgarden · 18/02/2015 13:54

No Lulu we're simply demonstrating how foolish it is to come onto a site and be critical of other posters' grammar and spelling.
And to be honest the one group of people whose errors I never mind pointing out are those who 'start it' by rudely jumping on other people's spelling and grammar.
If you made a post with that many errors on any other thread they'd barely register with me. But you just asked for it on here.

Pagwatch · 18/02/2015 13:54

Well at least the 'anti- grammar' ( and let's take a moment to absorb quite how thick a descriptor that is for what's posted) have reacte to post about grammar.
Rather than attacking a random poster

Sparklingbrook · 18/02/2015 13:56

I have been out. Is this all sorted yet?

Behindthepaintedgarden · 18/02/2015 13:56

Mintyy, I think the post is now on page 2 of this topic. It says something about Should of Called the Police, and of course some rude idiots jumped in and started chanting 'should have, should have, should have'.
