Its not really aibu but feel this is gaining tumble weed in wedding.

Most of the cake toppers I've seen are awful. They are cartoony, or feature the bride chaining up the groom, or zombies.

I like this one.

But also featuring two dds.
My dd said she wants to draw us instead. Shes five. I don't know what to think. I love the idea but what do you guys think of something like this?

I know, I know, link has the smoosh brangelina in it which is aibu in itself Grin

Let her do it!

This is something she can properly contribute.

Jewels234 · 13/02/2015 15:06

Love that idea. If it's a disaster who remembers the cake topper anyway?!

KingJoffreyObviouslyWatchesHol · 13/02/2015 15:07

I'd love it.

ImperialBlether · 13/02/2015 15:09

Sorry, I think this is taking the pfb thing a step too far! Please don't let her do it.

I don't like the toppers anyway - not very classy, are they?

TheRealMaryMillington · 13/02/2015 15:13

If you're going to have a topper, let the kid do it
I am going to be very rude and say I think the other thing you linked to is horrid.

FightOrFlight · 13/02/2015 15:13

I think it's rather lovely, an original and meaningful cake topper on a day that is important for all of you.

smithneejones · 13/02/2015 15:16

real mary Grin care to explain?

OP posts:
HairyOrk · 13/02/2015 15:18

I don't see why not. I think it's sweet

I would. Who cares if it doesn't come out great. She and you both will always remember her making the day a little extra special.

smithneejones · 13/02/2015 15:21

Does the above look awful?

OP posts:
BumpAndGrind · 13/02/2015 15:23

Her opinion is that it is horrid.

It is horrid in my opinion too. I don't understand what real mary has to explain.

BumpAndGrind · 13/02/2015 15:26

I would let your DD draw the topper. it is a sweet idea.

My friend got her children to write out the place cards. That was a nice touch.

smithneejones · 13/02/2015 15:28

Just why its horrible! I feel I'm missing something. People always say I've got bad taste

OP posts:
youmakemydreams · 13/02/2015 15:29

Let her do it. I love that idea and how could it possibly look awful your dd has done it.

ImperialBlether · 13/02/2015 15:32

Oh come on, of course it could look awful if any one of our five year old children did it!

You're going to spend all that money on a cake and ruin it with a child's picture on top? Really?

Ask her to make you a card. That'll keep her busy.

laughingmyarseoff · 13/02/2015 15:32

I think the first one isn't pretty at all, that's my opinion. Looks tacky to me, trying too hard.

Getting your DD to do it sounds really cute and something you can keep after.

Baaaaaaaaaaaa · 13/02/2015 15:33

They're right. It's horrid.

Looks plastic, tacky and dreadful colours.

However!

Everyone has individual tastes and if you like it, along with your DHTB, then that!s all that matters.

As for letting your dd draw it, hmmmmm. For me, it would be a no.

What about letting her do a drawing and incorporarting that on the wedding invites or order of service instead?

smithneejones · 13/02/2015 15:34

Do you mind me asking what people would have on their cakes?

OP posts:
PercyGherkin · 13/02/2015 15:36

I don't see the point of cake toppers. However, if you want one, then the idea on that Mollie Makes page of doing a drawing for it is rather sweet and far, far better than paying nearly £40 for something (and I don't like that Etsy one either).

smithneejones · 13/02/2015 15:40

imperial! I'm worried now....

OP posts:
MissPhonic · 13/02/2015 15:41

Yes, I'd let her do it in a heart beat. It would be a lovely way for her to feel involved and what could be better than a picture drawn by your dd?! Sod anyone who thinks it would look tacky on an expensive cake, I'd take my 5 year old feeling proud over any expensive shite you guys want to shove on a cake any day. It's family that matters on a wedding day, not how expensive something looks.

If you don't want a picture, how about her making figurines out of the modelling clay you bake to go on the top?

P.S. You don't have bad taste. It's just your taste. Be proud of yourself!
