Booing God Save Our Gracious Queen

I've sung Gwlad, Gwlad, etc in Welsh, (easier to sing yn Gymreig than write, [is that mutation correct?]), but was disgusted to hear the boos for God Save the Queen.
I love Wales & feel really proud to have my Mynediad Welsh certificate, but this hatred of the British national anthem. Really? Is it necessary?

I can think of a lot more things to be offended by to be honest

arethereanyleftatall · 06/02/2015 20:19

Fuck. 8-0 already

Mrsstarlord · 06/02/2015 20:20

Its all pantomime isn't it. Found all the theatrics more irritating - thought that footballers were the drama queens. Part of the appeal of rugby is the no nonsense, get on with it, off to the pub afterwards to have a pint together approach.

Gruntfuttock · 06/02/2015 20:20

OP, sorry if I should already know the answer to the following question, but at what event did that happen?

Mrsstarlord · 06/02/2015 20:20

Bugger

UnalignedAnt · 06/02/2015 20:20

Yay. 10-0!

Mrsstarlord · 06/02/2015 20:21

6 nations, Wales V England in Millenium Stadium

wowfudge · 06/02/2015 20:21

It is poor to boo the other nation's anthem at a sporting event. Not very sportsmanlike.

Gruntfuttock · 06/02/2015 20:21

Oh rugby. OK. Apologies for ignorance.

wowfudge · 06/02/2015 20:22

We're being trounced already Sadz

Sapat · 06/02/2015 20:22

I agree, not on. You can disagree without being rude. If it was reversed there would be an uproar.

Charlotte3333 · 06/02/2015 20:22

I was too busy being distracted/thrilled by the hot young lads in their tight t-shirts. I do love a rugby man's thighs.

FYI, my ES sang both anthems. We're not Welsh, he just likes to learn them in advance so he can surprise folk with his oddness. Firmly believe that those national anthems are residing in the part of his brain where his table manners/civility ought to be.

FightOrFlight · 06/02/2015 20:23

I expect the Welsh anthem was booed as well but you couldn't hear it as they were singing so loud Gin

Come on Wales!

FightOrFlight · 06/02/2015 20:23

Grin, not gin Shock

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 20:24

Im a royalist but not sure I'd be cross about it to be fair. Was it at a football match?

MuttonCadet · 06/02/2015 20:25

Hideous to boo anyone else's national anthem, what does it teach the children there of sportsmanship?

Disgusting behaviour

LadyMaryofDownton · 06/02/2015 20:25

It's perfectly ok to boo (hating/disliking) anything British or traditionally British (English) isn't it! Booing anything else however is not allowed & will be frowned upon especially silly here in MN.

FrancesNiadova · 06/02/2015 20:25

The Welsh anthem was sung in lusty harmonies Blush
C'mon England!

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 06/02/2015 20:25

Pisses me off no end that there's no English anthem.

The other Home Nations shouldn't boo what is their national anthem too.

OTOH, I did like seeing the news report on the events marking accession day.

wowfudge · 06/02/2015 20:26

Oh I don't know Fight. Reckon I might need the gin.

FrancesNiadova · 06/02/2015 20:28

10-5 Di'awn!

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/02/2015 20:30

Atheist Republican here and I say it's bad form.

MuttonCadet · 06/02/2015 20:31

Oh fuck, were the welsh booing their own national anthem (sorry couldn't give a rats arse about rugby), that's so ridiculous....

BreacaBoudica · 06/02/2015 20:31

I'm with MrsTerryPratchett - it's rude. And I am a strident republican!

meditrina · 06/02/2015 20:32

Very, very unsporting.
