FLM, that's sensible and I wish I could, tbh but I have something against looking feminine nowadays. I always feel vulnerable if I look 'dressed up' or girly. I think it would take a lot for me to wear a dress again.

Bit weird - obvs something else going on psychologically! But comfort is and should be the overriding concern, I think, for all of us. It makes me wince to see people struggling along in high heels and tiny narrow skirts. Or to see people wearing loads and loads of make up. I always feel really sorry for them.

A single standard for how people should appear in public?

Yes can't wait.

(Is this the time to buy into men's cosmetics futures?)

rationaloptimist123 · 03/02/2015 12:44

magic pixie
Don't go changin to try to please me. You never let me down before. Ooooh. Don't go tryin some new fashion. Don't change the colour of your hair. Mmm yeah.

I said I love you and that's forever. And this I promise from my heart. I couldn't love you any better.

I love you JUST THE WAY YOU ARE..

PresidentTwonk · 03/02/2015 12:44

Yeah, I totally agree, we keep fucking about donating food and money to food banks when we should be sending in mascara and vaseline

springlamb · 03/02/2015 12:47

I don't wanna look more awake, ta.
I believe in honesty.
If I'm being honest, from the minute I wake up I can't wait to go back to my bed that night.
I might feel differently in a few weeks time.

NomDePlumeRidesAgain · 03/02/2015 12:49

It would be nice if those who chose not to wear make up kept their "hiding something" type thoughts to themselves. They are just as judgy as the make up wearers judging non wearers to be plain, unattractive or disinterested.
Wear it, don't wear it. Wear loads, wear a bit, wear none. Who gives a fuck?

UnidentifiedSighingObject · 03/02/2015 12:53

Anything that misled people into thinking I am less tired than I am could lead to them entrusting dangerously ambitious tasks to me. Like, holding a conversation, or watching their child too while they pop to the loo. It's best they can see at a glance and conduct their own risk assessment. Mind you, I would probably only remember to tint half my face or something, so the clues would still be there Grin

OnlyLovers · 03/02/2015 12:55

don't believe the crap that men don't like women wearing make up

What a twattish thing to say.

PterodactylTeaParty · 03/02/2015 12:56

I would look better with a personal trainer, a stylist, an expensive new wardrobe, and a couple of luxury holidays abroad. MAKE IT SO.

Surreyblah · 03/02/2015 12:57

By people and folk I presume you mean women?

elfycat · 03/02/2015 12:59

I've sat down DD2 (4) and told her that she needs to make more effort.

She wont be allowed out until we achieve this

BreconBeBuggered · 03/02/2015 13:00

I tried it out, but in my haste to reveal the new me I forgot to clean my teeth and everyone I encountered was felled by a single blast of garlic breath.

ClaudetteWyms · 03/02/2015 13:04

YABU.

This reminds me of the women with grey hair must dye it thread of yonder.

Personally I only look better with 1" of foundation to cover my scars, several coats of gloopy mascara to hide the fact I have very sparse lashes, and thick smudges of blusher to hide the fact I am very pale.

I'm sure most people have more to think/worry about than whether they should reach for the "natural" mascara and tinted moisturiser.

I do think however that most men would benefit from a nice bit of eyeliner Wink

AnnieLobeseder · 03/02/2015 13:06

I do think men look fantastic with a bit of mascara, and I do agree, OP, that more of them should wear it.

PatterofaMinion · 03/02/2015 13:07

Elfycat, I have just looked at all 60 of those horrifying pictures and can't quite decide how to handle the knowledge that this is actually a real thing.

Isn't there a vast majority of normal people who care about their children, who would be able to get these shows shut down?

YesIDidMeanToBeSoRudeActually · 03/02/2015 13:07

OPT, I preferred your thread where you were pissed out of your brain at 3pm - you were funnier then.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 03/02/2015 13:08

I know I do but the thought of people judging on the days I cba gives me the shakes and makes me not want to step out the front door.

BigChocFrenzy · 03/02/2015 13:08

99% of people or do you just mean 99% of women Hmm ?
I've met very few men who wear any, especially mascara and blusher.

and what do you mean by
"...but even the ones you might call a lost cause, would look better..."

I was born in the 1950s, but I don't wish to return there.

I cba to disguise the real me: Back in 1993, I chucked out all mascara & eyeliner, heels, skirts & dresses. I just wear jeans, sportskit & Nike trainers.
Suits me < shrugs >

PatterofaMinion · 03/02/2015 13:09

I had a boyfriend who looked like Robert Smith once. He was superb. Till he started borrowing my necklaces and shirts.

ClaudetteWyms · 03/02/2015 13:14

Annie I was thinking more along the lines of this pretty young dude.

(A young Dave Vanian for youngsters on the thread who don't recognise him)

babybythesea · 03/02/2015 13:19

Fatally mummy - I think you may be me. I finally binned all of my (mostly unused) makeup well over 10 years ago. I was persuaded to wear some for my wedding which I got professionally done as. I had no clue how to go about it. And I hated it. It felt wrong, and I still find the photos a bit odd looking, although it was very 'natural'. It just wasn't as natural as me without it. Never again.

babybythesea · 03/02/2015 13:20

fatally mummy?? Should be fatlazymummy, clearly.

elfycat · 03/02/2015 13:24

Apologies PatterofaMinion I should have put a warning about a deeply disturbing link. DD2 looks a lot like the first child in the blue Jasmin-type outfit. I could easily make her look a clone.

But I never will.

It's grim, but that's beauty pageants all over (IMO). But it's entertaining, money-making, parent pleasing crap. As long as people want entertainment, to make money or to live vicariously through their children it's not going to stop.

AntiHop · 03/02/2015 13:24

I stopped wearing make up. I'm fully aware that I'd look 'better' if I wore it. But I don't care. I save money, I save time, I save the planet's resources and I don't pander to patriarchal expectations. It's a win all round.
