I do the same skin care routine whether I have make up on or not. I use a cleanser that removes make up so no, it doesn't take me longer to take it off. I use the same product which takes the same time if I am wearing make up or not.

Putting it on takes 5 minutes tops. Yeah, when you start wearing it you might have to put some time in to find the right products for you but that isn't an ongoing thing.

A good moisturiser doesn't take ages to sink it at all for me.

So it might take you a lot of time to find and apply make up but for the majority of people putting on make up is not that time consuming. I think that reply was aimed at all the people who made out that they are just so busy that they don't possibly have the time to put on make up unlike us vain people with so much time to waste because we have nothing better to do in our unimportant lives

The only group here who have been run down is make up wearers. Except for the OP no one has made negative comments about non make up wearers, but those who do? well we are:

Fake
look stupid with red lips
must have so much time on our hands
our value comes from the way we look
sending bad messages to our children
makes us look older
And so on.

Be offended by the OP sure, but do we really need to put down make up wearers at the same time?

I don't give a shit who wears make up or who doesn't but make up wearers are not the ones coming into this thread running down those who don't wear it.

Excuse any typos.. need caffeine.

puddymuddles · 04/02/2015 08:22

This is the makeup I wear but some people need more (or less!) and we are all different. Sometimes add a little eyeliner too.

CruCru · 04/02/2015 09:03

This is a funny thread. I like that the OP is not particularly angry (nice for AIBU) but loads of posters have got really cross.

I look better with a bit of makeup. I try to make the effort but am sometimes too late or lazy.

ScotsWhaHae · 04/02/2015 09:09

I agree with you, U2.

I've seen it time and time again, sneering at people who make the effort with their appearance. It's my time, I'll us it how I wish. It probably takes me less time to put my face on than it does to type up a post slagging off make up wearers.

dogelove · 04/02/2015 09:21

I don't give two shits if people WANT to wear make up or DON'T WANT to wear make up. Neither is some kind of moral high ground to the other, or indicative of a person's worth in anyway, so it would be nice if the bitchy comments could stop.

The only thing that ISN'T acceptable is being orange. If you want to wear make up, at least buy foundation in a skin shade that exists outside of the chocolate factory.

Personally, I don't need to wear make up. I find it an utter waste of money - especially when it rains and you were wearing mascara. Such nonsense.

I just wear one of these whenever I leave the house

To be honest OP , I would look better with a bit of make-up on , feel free to pop round and give me a lesson on how to do it without looking like I have failed at facepainting Grin

Bue · 04/02/2015 10:58

I do genuinely believe that a lot of men would look better with a bit of subtle makeup. A few spots covered, skin brightened, a slick of mascara. Makeup doesn't have to be oppressive, it can be fun. I wish that rather than denigrating women who don't wear makeup (which is also a totally legitimate choice), that society were more open to men experimenting with makeup.

skylark2 · 04/02/2015 11:09

"So it's not ok for the OP to say that she thinks women look better with a bit if make up on but it is ok to say that people would look better if they didn't paint themselves with crap?"

I didn't say that.

The OP thinks most women would look better if they wore makeup.
I think most women would look better if they wore no makeup.

We are allowed to have different opinions.

flowery · 04/02/2015 11:34

I do feel lucky that as a woman I have options. If DH and I have a few late nights or whatever, I can deploy Bobbi Brown to cover up my dark circles, he can't!

KellyElly · 04/02/2015 11:36

I think most women would look better if they wore no makeup. No they wouldn't. That's the point of makeup isn't it. Even out your skin, covers dark shadows, opens up your eyes etc. It's peoples own choice whether they can be arsed with wearing it, but to say most women would look better without it isn't true. Most blokes would look fresher if they used a bit of concealor and a light natural foundation.

flowery · 04/02/2015 11:37

You said exactly that skylark Confused

"I think most people would look a darn sight better if they didn't spend hours and £££ faffing about painting themselves with crap"

FamiliesShareGerms · 04/02/2015 11:39

I definitely look better with the sort of stuff the OP mentions - without blusher, for example, people ask me if I'm ill...

SuperFlyHigh · 04/02/2015 11:41

do you mean men/children/pets?!

I had a very strange dream last night where my brother told me he'd put on blue eyeshadow to enhance his blue eyes, for a special occasion.... I think this was throw back to other week when we went to funeral and he had dreadful bags under his eyes (tiredness) and I suggested concealor...

SuperFlyHigh · 04/02/2015 11:42

U2 - actually I'm a makeup wearer but I think it's no-one else's business if you enhance yourself with makeup or not...

having said that I don't do it every day but certainly try to.

Sallystyle · 04/02/2015 13:02

I don't think it is anyone else's business if they wear make up or not either.

And yes skylark you did say most people would look better if they didn't paint themselves with crap. Someone else already helpfully bolded your comment.

EugenesAxe · 04/02/2015 13:12

Yeah probably. But it's quite ugly to belittle anyone that chooses not to, I think.

SomethingOnce · 04/02/2015 17:24

I've seen it time and time again, sneering at people who make the effort with their appearance.

The concept of 'making effort' could stand to be unpacked.

Clearly, the opposite is 'not having made an effort' - not exactly neutral is it?

And an effort to what? What is the aim and what is the motivation? For the benefit of whom?

tilliebob · 04/02/2015 17:32

I "make an effort" every day. I have shower, blow dry my hair, check my nails are clean and even, wear fresh clothes every day, wear polished shoes/boots, wear matching necklace/earrings.

I don't, however, usually wear make up.

Am I somehow a slob then? I'm apparently NOT making an effort according to some posters, because I want my skin to breathe and I don't like having stuff on my face?

Weird.

LuxuryTrifle · 04/02/2015 17:42

Giggling a lot at this thread.

MortaIWombat · 04/02/2015 19:34

Mmmmmmm. I feel 99 percent of people would sound better with Received Pronunciation. They'd sound clearer, sharper, more 'City'....

Trills · 04/02/2015 19:50

I think 99% of folk would come across better if they chose to spell things correctly and use capital letters where appropriate.

EugenesAxe · 04/02/2015 20:28

Great response Triils Grin

EugenesAxe · 04/02/2015 20:29

How ironic... that should be Trills

Plomino · 04/02/2015 20:50

I'm a emphatic non make up wearer - when I'm getting up at 4am I barely have time to make a drink , let alone embark on all that palaver , and I've yet to meet a suspect who's said "nice arrest love, but a bit of turquoise on your eyelids would work a treat " and frankly when I'm on the train home after nights there isn't any unguent in existence that's going to make me look "better"

Wear the whole caboodle, wear a bit, wear none . As long as you're happy in your own skin, who cares what's on it?
