AIBU to ask the neighbours to open the curtains?

A youngish couple with no children bought a house on our estate about a year ago. They don't get involved with any of the activities such as the summer bbq and basically seem to isolate themselves from the rest of us, their loss. However my main bug is that they NEVER have the living room curtains open and quite often leave the other ones shut also, today every single one of them are shut and I know they are home.

I've hinted a couple of times that it would be best for them to leave them open, the girl mumbled something about a projector and watching films, but they can't be watching films all the time.

AIBU to just point blank ask them to open the curtains during the day, it really depresses me to look across to their house with all the curtains closed, it doesn't look inviting and it looks odd compared to the rest of the estate, we all manage to open their curtains everyday, so why can't they? My DH thinks I'm BU and should just leave them to it but I think when it effects other people I have a right to say something?

YABU - but I smell a reverse here.

Sychnant · 21/01/2015 14:43

Sorry, but I honestly can't see how this is either a problem or your business!

FourEyesGood · 21/01/2015 14:43

How does it affect you? Except for depressing you, which is weird.
YABU.

HearMyRoar · 21/01/2015 14:43

This is a joke right....

GoringBit · 21/01/2015 14:43

Wow, AIBU is on fire this afternoon.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/01/2015 14:43

So you can have a good nosy in?

OydNeverDeclinesGin · 21/01/2015 14:43

Ha ha ha ha ha
Grin

HouseBaelish · 21/01/2015 14:44

YABU - but I agree, reverse.

I have my living room curtains shut all day. Currently there is a building site down the road and there is constant traffic up and down. Lights flash through the whole house and disturb me.

None of your business

TheGonnagle · 21/01/2015 14:44

Really?

PureMorning · 21/01/2015 14:44

How does it affect you?

GoringBit · 21/01/2015 14:44

Are you anywhere near Lewisham?

Isthatwhatdemonsdo · 21/01/2015 14:44

How on earth does it effect you?. I suggest you say nothing and keep your beak out. Confused

Fudgeface123 · 21/01/2015 14:45

Mind your own business, maybe they don't want to socialise with a bunch of busy bodies either!

Glomerulus · 21/01/2015 14:45

Are you my weird neighbour?

If so, stop staring at my house please. And YABU.

OutDamnSpot · 21/01/2015 14:45

Not another area where property prices are being lowered by these young types who can't even be bothered to open their curtains! When the house price crash comes, we'll know who to blame.

(I presume you are not being serious, but in case this is for real, yes YABU).

angelos02 · 21/01/2015 14:45

EH? I can't say I've ever noticed whether my neighbour's curtains are open or not. Odd.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 21/01/2015 14:45

Are you mad?

ThatDamnedBitch · 21/01/2015 14:45

You'd hate me OP I haven't opened my curtains at all today. It's that fricking dull outside I need the light on.

TheListingAttic · 21/01/2015 14:46

Reverse, Fake, or Genuinely Unhinged? It's the Marry, Snog, Avoid of Mumsnet.

HedgehogsDontBite · 21/01/2015 14:46

Hahaha, yeah right.

Cirsium · 21/01/2015 14:46

YABVU, it's none of your business. Maybe they have sleep issues or work nights and get up late, are suffering from something like depression or chronic pain and just need to hide away from the world. Maybe they like walking around their house naked or have lots of sex. Stop looking across at their house so much if it upsets you.

Chavaloy · 21/01/2015 14:47

Maybe one of them has a condition where they are not allowed to expose their skin to light.

InfinitySeven · 21/01/2015 14:47

I don't open my bedroom blinds and curtains at the moment. It feels like I'm constantly opening and closing them and it's hard with a bust wrist. It also keeps the room warmer...for some reason it's Arctic in there!

If you asked me to open them, I'd smile and nod and then ignore you completely.

GraysAnalogy · 21/01/2015 14:47

Seriously hahahah

GoringBit · 21/01/2015 14:47

There are probably hoarded of dreadful schoolgirls scattering litter like confetti.
