He just thinks it was harmless. 'If you don't like it, don't look.' I'd like to educate him but I can't seem to find the words.

He's intelligent but can't seem to get this one.

I bitterly resent the sight if your username simon
Tbh I have found everything you have posted here to be as irritating as a glass fibre tampon.
You have every right and, imo, vested interest to want to maintain the status quo.
A significant number of women and girls feel very uncomfortable about the sexual objectification of women that p3 (and other images) contributes to.
You have a right to not give a shit about that of course
But you've not made anything close to a sensible comment on the issue and I can only assume that you're here for the "sport" of goading women.
And i bitterly resent that.

limitedperiodonly · 24/01/2015 20:45

I know there used to be a hairy chested Page 7 Fella in The Sun, simon.

I suspect we're both avid readers. With me, it's more of a professional thing.

It didn't turn me on. Perhaps not you either, but I don't like to judge.

Many people would prefer to see a teenage boy's hairless peachy arse offered up for wank material.

Would you find that acceptable if the majority of readers wanted it or couldn't be arsed to object?

And if you did, do you think The Sun would find it acceptable to print that image?

Do try to tell the truth.

100 per cent honest truth limited, i couldn't give a shit what they print in the sun. I dont read it.

limitedperiodonly · 24/01/2015 20:50

For someone who doesn't read it you know an awful lot about it.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 24/01/2015 20:52

How do you know how we feel about all women parliamentary short lists? Have you asked us? Start a thread -I guarantee you'll get a variety of opinions.

Would you like to explain why you feel women are "bloody short fused ?

It was you who resorted to a personal attack on a poster - one of the few things not allowed on mumsnet - and got your post deleted. I think it may be you who doesn't like having his ideas challenged by women.

limitedperiodonly · 24/01/2015 20:55

i couldn't give a shit what they print in the sun. I dont read it

Then you don't know what you're talking about, do you?

There you go, a lively discussion. Few years old so feel free to start another, or AS yourself for a more recent one.

Incidentally, your previous post contained a couple of sexist generalisations; you may wish to withdraw it.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/01/2015 21:00

Oh, and NMP3 isn't a MN campaign. Perhaps you are getting it confused with We Believe You? Is rape also an area where short fused women are wasting their time?

simontowers2 · 24/01/2015 21:00

Sabrina, read the whole thread, that poster was hardly pleasant towards me. Which is fair enough, opinions and all that. Limited - i know they print tits on page 3, are owned by murdoch and are right of centre politically. Do i need to know owt else? If so, what?

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/01/2015 21:00

women are so bloody short fused

well i have got my period.

simontowers2 · 24/01/2015 21:03

Im on about a campaign yonic, not a thread.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/01/2015 21:03

So if an individual responds to tour goading with a less than friendly retort that's justification for making a sexist a dismissive generalisation?

The answer is "no" btw. Not justified.

YonicScrewdriver · 24/01/2015 21:04

Well, you know how to email MNHQ, why not suggest it?

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/01/2015 21:04

Your.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 24/01/2015 21:07

I've been following and posting on the thread throughout thanks, Simon. Has she been deleted for PA's then? I don't hold it against you - I've been deleted plenty - although not in the course of normal discussion, only when dealing with the hairy handed that walk among us.

Would you like to explain your comment on women being so bloody short fused please?

limitedperiodonly · 24/01/2015 21:09

Limited - i know they print tits on page 3, are owned by murdoch and are right of centre politically. Do i need to know owt else? If so, what?

There are quite a few things about The Sun's content that might attract readers beyond Page 3 and their political viewpoint and might even attract people despite those things.

I outlined a few of them but you might have missed that.

You don't know what you're talking about, do you?

simontowers2 · 24/01/2015 21:15

I think i do limited. But if you say i dont, well fair enough, perhaps i dont.

limitedperiodonly · 24/01/2015 21:19

if you say i dont, well fair enough, perhaps i dont

Believe me when I say it gives me no pleasure to say this simon but reluctantly, [sigh]

Sad
MyFriendlyDaemon · 24/01/2015 21:23

Limited "FriendlyDaemon I'm not wishing to argue with you but I do have an issue with Page 3 but not necessarily with other features in The Sun."

Not actually sure what you mean here. I wasn't actually specifically referring to you.

I have to say I'm surprised that anyone with any claim to liberal credentials (which I assume you have) gives any support to the Murdoch empire. I boycotted it so long ago I can't even remember which issue it was which provoked it.

limitedperiodonly · 24/01/2015 21:33

MyFriendlyDaemon

Some of us work in an industry where it is quite difficult to dodge Murdoch, or Associated Newspapers or Richard Desmond.

But I aspire to toil in the sunlit uplands of the Guardian, who aren't that hot as employers or moralists either.

Meanwhile, I assure you that the last time I looked, I had liberal credentials and they and my conscience do a rigorous daily workout.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 24/01/2015 21:33

MyFriendly - I believe it's possible to like certain aspects of the Sun, but not page 3. I believe it's possible to to be against page 3 but still want Sky and whatever. An opinion poll I saw shows plenty of sun readers would prefer it without page 3 (because they like the sport pages or whatever) and that plenty more people might buy the sun without page 3.

Plus sales in Ireland have been reportedly largely unaffected since they abandoned page 3.

Oswin · 24/01/2015 22:41

I'm working class. I live on a housing estate. I'm friends with models. Yet I'm still against page 3.
How insulting is it that you think women like me have no political opinions.
Why is it that its always assumed feminists are posh middle class women who live in London?

alicemalice · 25/01/2015 10:12

Opponents to NMP are trying to turn it into a class war.

Murdoch's latest comment about us being 'horrible elites' underpins this.

Oh the irony.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 25/01/2015 11:03
