He just thinks it was harmless. 'If you don't like it, don't look.' I'd like to educate him but I can't seem to find the words.

He's intelligent but can't seem to get this one.

When people say "it's my choice" that's absolutely fine. In lads mags etc. If some dozy twat wants to perve over a glamour model, he can. In Nuts and Zoo mags

There is no place for topless women in a family newspaper and children shouldn't be subjected to it.

Theboodythatrocked · 20/01/2015 23:46

I don't think Emily Davis killed herself for page 3.

Seriously though it's so so 70s and out iof date seriously people of any sex think it's ok?

People actually still buy the sun?

It's reminds me of Saville and gary glitter as I am that age.

So daft and my grown up lads just can't get their heads around any man bringing it into a family environment.

Just wierd.

SallySolomon · 20/01/2015 23:49

I'm sorry, but I just can;t get myself worked up over page 3 models. Sure, it's degrading, and they should have more respect and all that.
However, it's their CHOICE. No-one's forcing them to stand with their baps out and get perved over by lecherous men, are they?!
In a free world we should be able to decide whether we want equality or whether we want to be an object.
Surely that's what free speech is all about?! Not be TOLD what we should be doing!

mrsfuzzy · 20/01/2015 23:54

feminism are you listening ?? sally sums it right up for me.

Theboodythatrocked · 20/01/2015 23:55

Sally free speech?? Think we always had that with or without page 3.

Are you sure you are on the right thread chik?

Icimoi · 20/01/2015 23:58

Page 3 models can certainly choose to earn their living that way. The question is whether a newspaper should publish the pictures resulting from that.

For me, one of the main issues is that this puts women into the position of being primarily depicted as sex objects as opposed to having any serious role in news terms. I think this doesn't really go far enough, the next target should be the Mail's Sidebar of Shame, especially all the pictures of "all grown up" nubile young girls.

Theboodythatrocked · 20/01/2015 23:59

But as you mentioned degrading and respect* how patronising are you?

I don't judge unlike you and if women choose to earn cash glamour modelling that's up to them but let me whisper it to you.

tits arnt news

mrsfuzzy · 21/01/2015 00:02

theboody , i think what she is saying is that feminists some times get their backs up over the slightest thing and seem to feel the need to instruct the female population on what is right and proper, most women do not need to be fed this as we can think for ourselves and say what we want, political correctness and feminism are good to a point then it becomes a pain in the arris and a bit of a laughing stock. flame away, i'm feeling cold !

Cocolepew · 21/01/2015 00:02

Yes its their choice and they are enpowered blah de blah [hmn] . But it is us women who suffer. My teenage girls being told to get their tits out by men old enough to be their dads.
Sam Fox was 16 when she posed in it. 16! For men to leer over. Shameful.

Cocolepew · 21/01/2015 00:05

Jodie Marsh has said its all because of comfy shoe, no bra wearing men haters.
Which is a bit rich coming from someone who doesn't seem to possess a bra herself.
Though, tbf, my DH supported No More Page 3 and always wears comfy shoes and no bra.

Burke1 · 21/01/2015 00:13

Why are you so determined to "educate" aka try and force your opinion on him, would it be correct for him to try and "educate" you about why (in his opinion) there is nothing wrong with Page 3? Just agree to disagree because relationships are boring if you have identical beliefs about everything.

GallicIsCharlie · 21/01/2015 00:14

Sally, it's not about the models. It's about the fact that 2 million British households get a pair of tits shoved in their faces at the breakfast table. And what that implies, conveys & promotes about women's place in world events.

Wizard - Ask DP if he's OK with the Sun putting a nice young man's bare arse on Page 3 every day instead.

GallicIsCharlie · 21/01/2015 00:15

my DH supported No More Page 3 and always wears comfy shoes and no bra.

Grin Have the Best Quote award.

Theboodythatrocked · 21/01/2015 00:20

MrsFuzzy see your point but bit sure any woman is that daft that she is fed anyone's point!

My dss and dds were just brought to knowing that they had to be respectful and were equally nice and empathetic to everyone.

Mmm so they think page 3 is boring, stupid, for the inane and stupid and old fashioned.

They are a good snapshot of modern society being 25,24,15,14.

It's old fashioned.

AriBelle · 21/01/2015 00:25

I can't really remember what I said, but it was along the lines of I can't walk down the street topless, so why is it in a national newspaper? Seemed to convince him!

Is it illegal for a woman to be topless? I know it falls under the SOA 2003, but I think you have to prove there was intent to upset. I think it just falls under common law in Scotland?

I'm sure my opinion will be disregarded by most and will be deemed unintelligent but I really don't get the issue with Page 3.

The women that appeared on it are not part of human trafficking (which is the issue I have with porn).

It would not be something I would do but if someone else wanted to do that then I do not have the right to say no. Freedom of choice.

I don't read The Sun. I believe their sales will fall and could potentially put jobs at risk.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 21/01/2015 00:34

Aribelle, I'm not too happy to test it out, but I'm pretty sure I would cause a storm if I walked down the street with nothing but a pair of knickers and a big necklace on. Or did the school run topless. I'm fairly sure that if I persisted I would be taken away by the police.

So why in a daily newspaper - on view to the public?

RandomNPC · 21/01/2015 00:37

Good

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 21/01/2015 00:39

I am wondering about the public's reaction to a young man's, say 16 yrs old's bear arse on page 3. I mean nothing too degrading - just a bare arse. Something for old women to leer over Hmm Hmm Angry

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 21/01/2015 00:39

*bare

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 21/01/2015 00:41

^remembering, btw, that Sam Fox was 16 when she first appeared on page 3.

meddie · 21/01/2015 00:50

Also at the time there was a countdown to her 16th birthday when they could legally show her tits. So grubby.

RandomNPC · 21/01/2015 01:00

A similar case with how Charlotte Church was treated.

YonicScrewdriver · 21/01/2015 01:07

POPE IZ CATHOLIC

BEAR SHITZ IN WOODZ

WOMAN HAZ TITZ

None of these things is news. Or NEWZ.

PhaedraIsMyName · 21/01/2015 01:29

I'm sure at some point I must have signed a petition calling for Page 3 to be banned.

I'm glad it's gone because it's now seen by men and women as tacky, old-fashioned, sexist, dated and stupid. And I'm also glad it has not gone because it was banned if that makes sense.

TheNewStatesman · 21/01/2015 02:47

Why does it MATTER? Do you have to agree on every single thing?

Agree with other posters that if you can't explain why you think it's wrong, it's not really your opinion--it's someone else's opinion that you've picked up on.
