To want the dr to do more

I've been lying on my living room floor for 20 hours since bending down to pick up my phone and doing something to my back. I literally can't move-can't roll over, sit up, anything. Called gp and they have given me painkillers but they aren't touching the pain and I still can't move.

AIBU to want someone to do SOMETHING? How long am I expected to lie like this??!! (Self-pity alert!)

That is fucking awful. So what do they expect you to do?

bouncingbelle · 26/01/2015 20:41

Go back to my gp (that I can't walk to) and refer myself for physio.. She has absolutely no idea what's wrong with me because she didnt check!

Can you afford private treatment? The 'care' you're getting on the NHS is shit.

bouncingbelle · 26/01/2015 21:07

I'm so upset by this woman's attitude. She was a bitch from the minute I walked into the room. I can't afford private treatment but I may be able to ask a relative for help, that's a good idea.

Well, usually I'm all for A&E getting tougher with time-wasters, but not for things like this! The fact that you've only just managed to get there doesn't mean it's not an emergency - it's just that their NHS colleagues left you on the floor at home for several days!

Unidentifieditem · 26/01/2015 21:16

Oh bouncing Sad this is horrific. Didn't you mention your family could help you see an osteo?

JockTamsonsBairns · 26/01/2015 22:43

Fucking Hell, this is a modern day NHS nightmare Angry. It's utterly scandalous that you are being left high and dry with no investigative procedures. Really hope things improve for you soon op.

HelenaDove · 27/01/2015 02:03

OP im so sorry you are going through this. Thanks Not the same but i had gallstones 12/13 years ago because of fast weight loss.

It was EXCRUTIATINGLY painful and reading this thread im fucking glad i dont have them now.

And how the fuck does she know it WASNT your heart tablets you were throwing up.

Had the paramedics out to DH last night due to chest pains (he has COPD and ischemic heart disease and had a massive heart attack in the past and they were absolutely brilliant. Sorry i know that doesnt help but it sounds like it must differ in different areas.

bouncingbelle · 27/01/2015 11:49

My auntie has come to my rescue. I'm going to see a private specialist tomorrow because my back is as bad as ever.

However, I'm putting in a letter of complaint about the nurses at the hospital last night. Apart from the one I saw, there was an elderly man in a hospital wheelchair in the waiting room. He was obviously unwell and he and his wife were worried. He spoke to a nurse to see if he could be taken through to the assessment area.she said no, they were too busy, but would he be more comfortable in chair he could put his feet up on. He said yes, and she then said "yeah, like we've we've got one of those. Do you want me to sit and fan you as well?????"

To say I,ve lost faith in the NHs over the last week is the understatement of the year.

I wrote a big long message and it didn't send. Bugger.

The gist of it is that I am so so sorry you have been treated like this. It's dispicable. I am so angry for you, im angry at the healthcare 'professionals' who have let you down and that nurse needs to jack her job in because she clearly has lost the nursing ethos.

I wish you were in my area, we would have had you treated. Even people with migraines get a place to sit and some strong pain relief until they feel well enough to go home. Everywhere is understaffed, everywhere is under resourced, but that is no excuse for lacking compassion for a fellow human being and doing the upmost to help them - which is supposedly why we go into the health and medical field in the first place.

I really really hope this gets sorted ASAP. It's been playing on my mind I feel terrible for you.

ExitPursuedByABear · 27/01/2015 12:55

Good Grief! Which hospital was it?

What an appalling attitude!!!

Nancy66 · 27/01/2015 12:59

That nurse sounds horrible. Definitely complain.

You must push your GP for an MRI referral you may never get a proper diagnosis if you don't pursue this.

wanttosqueezeyou · 27/01/2015 13:00

Make a complaint to the hospital. Let them decide if that was appropriate treatment. Can you tell us which hospital?

bouncingbelle · 27/01/2015 21:07

Am I allowed to name the hospital? It is one in north lanarkshire.n

TheDailyWail · 27/01/2015 21:28

You poor thing! Hoping that going private will get you the treatment you need.

ExitPursuedByABear · 27/01/2015 22:21

Course you can name it.

Hopefully I am never likely to need a hospital in that neck of the woods

How was your appointment today? Flowers

3littlefrogs · 28/01/2015 17:14

Nancy66 - the Op has an internal cardiac device - she can't have a MRI.

OP it sounds as if private care might be the only way.

Nancy66 · 28/01/2015 17:36

oh that's right, she did say so before. apologies

ssd · 28/01/2015 18:06

op, does it rhyme with haretires? have had problems with the A&E dept there myself!
