To want the dr to do more

I've been lying on my living room floor for 20 hours since bending down to pick up my phone and doing something to my back. I literally can't move-can't roll over, sit up, anything. Called gp and they have given me painkillers but they aren't touching the pain and I still can't move.

AIBU to want someone to do SOMETHING? How long am I expected to lie like this??!! (Self-pity alert!)

I'd call an ambulance op!

londonrach · 20/01/2015 20:36

Call ambulance!

Naoko · 20/01/2015 20:36

Call an ambulance OP, you will not be wasting their time! You are on the floor, immobile and have been there for 20 hours. You have given the injection and the drugs ample (too much!) time to do their thing, now is the time to call in the cavalry.

When they talk about people who waste ambulance/A&E time, they mean people who call an ambulance because they feel a bit sick, or people who go to A&E with a cough they've had for 3 weeks that hasn't got worse and isn't actually more threatening than 'a bit annoying'. Not people who are in agony and can't move - those people need to call for help, not worry about whether they're timewasters. Call them!

ILovePud · 20/01/2015 20:38

Oramorph was the most effective painkiller I've taken, it sounds awful bouncingbelle I hope you are feeling better soon.

nhsworker15 · 20/01/2015 20:38

I'd call NHS 24. Did you tell your gp you were stuck on the floor?

mrsminiverscharlady · 20/01/2015 20:39

How much diazepam have you had?

Lottiedoubtie · 20/01/2015 20:41

I am Shock that you haven't already called an ambulance. How could this possibly not be an emergency? On the floor for 20 hours? Blimey, I'd have called an ambulance after 4 ... Tops.

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/01/2015 20:42

call an ambulance. you can't lie there indefinitely. It's not a waste of their time. Honestly call them.

LineRunner · 20/01/2015 20:42

Fgs get your DP to get an ambulance round.

WipsGlitter · 20/01/2015 20:49

Lying is probably not helping. You need a physio to help mobilise you safely.

Patilla · 20/01/2015 20:49

Adding my voice to the chorus' of "call an ambulance".

You can't move, the GP's have all but said they can't do anymore. It's time to seek more specialist help.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and a short wait to be seen

nippey · 20/01/2015 20:54

This happened to my husband 2 years ago and we had to call 999 on 3 occasions as well as the oncall doctor more times than I can count when the pain was unmanagable ( he was perscribed with tramadol but some days it didnt touch the pain) They gave him pain injections, he was then prescribed tablets with a morphine derivative and in total spent the best part of 6 months on the floor. He had spinal fusion surgery after 6 months and is now walking around after lots of recovery physio.

It was hideous and I feel so sorry for you.

We found calling 111 after our GP closed and getting Medoc to visit was the quickest route for us to get him the injection when the pain was at its worse.

Everytime we called 999, they came but had to wait for the doctor to bring the injection which was ludicrous.

He did have to go to the toilet whilst being on the floor and it was pretty distressing for us all. In hindsight, we should have been much more persistent in demanding he was seen sooner so please do be demanding.

I hope you feel better soon.

OttiliaVonBCup · 20/01/2015 20:57

Oh dear lord.

Please call for help.

goodasitgets · 20/01/2015 20:59

I work for the ambulance service - ring them please!
This happened to me and I was mortified because well, ringing colleagues and wearing pjs. Gas and air got me off the floor. Doctor then gave diazepam, codeine and paracetamol and referred to sports physio

goodasitgets · 20/01/2015 20:59

And if you won't ring them, PM me your address and I will sort it (stern voice)

waithorse · 20/01/2015 21:00

Hope you've gotten help now.

KitKat1985 · 20/01/2015 21:02

The 'electric shock' type pain you have sounds like me when I burst a disc in my back 5 years ago. I was in agony and GP only prescribed some moderate pain-killers and small doses of diazepam (without doing an MRI to realise the extent of the problem) which I just accepted at the time despite still being in horrendous pain. Found out later that a lot of people get given IV morphine etc when this happens and that I probably needed surgery but was too late by the time I finally got taken seriously and seen by a specialist as damage was already done (and I've had back pain ever since). My advice: Phone am ambulance, go to A&E, and get an MRI done. You are not time-wasting if you can't move from the floor and are in agony. You don't want to end up with chronic back pain like me. GraysAnalogy · 20/01/2015 21:03

I just cannot believe any healthcare professional would leave you lying there. If they actually have then they need disciplining.

You are at a very high risk for tissue damage. In fact I'd be surprised if it hasn't already started happening.

bouncingbelle · 20/01/2015 21:04

Thanks all, sorry - dosed off for a bit! (Had taken 10mg of diazepam). I'm going to call them, you are right. Is there another number apart from 999 as it's not life threatening?

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/01/2015 21:05

999 isn't just for life threatening. After all for example there are bad fractures that are not life threatening but mean that moving would be a bad idea.

GraysAnalogy · 20/01/2015 21:08

I would ring 999. I don't mean to scare you, but there can be serious complications if you actually have been lying prone for that length of time.

Nicknacky · 20/01/2015 21:10

What has your dp been saying about you lying on the ground so long?

nhsworker15 · 20/01/2015 21:13

If you don't want to call 999 call nhs24 like you did last night.

lemisscared · 20/01/2015 21:15

ring 999. 111 will fob you off. you need to be in hospital. i am flabbergasted at the way you have been left

GraysAnalogy · 20/01/2015 21:18

Don't ring 111. Ring 999 and tell them you have been lied on the floor for over 20 hours.

This is ridiculous.

How have you been drinking?? and have you been to the toilet properly? Get your DP to have a feel at your legs, see if theres any pain.
