To want the dr to do more

I've been lying on my living room floor for 20 hours since bending down to pick up my phone and doing something to my back. I literally can't move-can't roll over, sit up, anything. Called gp and they have given me painkillers but they aren't touching the pain and I still can't move.

AIBU to want someone to do SOMETHING? How long am I expected to lie like this??!! (Self-pity alert!)

Oh good luck belle. Anything is better than the pain.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/01/2015 13:41

I hope you get sorted once and for all.

and when this is over I'd complain big time.

GemmaPuddledDuck · 24/01/2015 14:04

For all of you saying people with sudden back pain like this should move about, surely if they have an injury that would be the worst thing to do.

My DH had a similar experience and spent four days on the floor using a potty and drifting in and out of sleep. He had high doses of diazipine and pain killers and was told to stay still so as not to make the injury worse.

After the four days he came off the drugs and gradually became mobile so after 2 weeks he was above to work, drive etc.

It was only months later through a private referral he found out a disc had burst, there was nothing that could have been done once it happened other than resting.

I am home! First thing my mother said was "oh my god you, lips are blue" -god only knows whats caused that but sooo glad to getting proper treatment soon!

sorry to sound harsh .but if the op had been in that much pain she would not have been constantly updating on this page lets be serious .

NotInGuatemalaNowDrRopata · 25/01/2015 11:33

You poor, poor girl. Thinking of you and hoping someone can help soon.

ExitPursuedByABear · 25/01/2015 14:20

Really april? I think people respond to pain differently. And she has not lost the use of her arms.

Glad you are at home getting some TLC op.

lljkk · 25/01/2015 15:40

I understand why you wrote that, April.
I wonder if Osteopath was a complete Quack or explained things badly. Dr. Google couldn't find "dislocated pelvis" for me, but did say that it takes huge major trauma to dislocate a hip.

PausingFlatly · 25/01/2015 16:22

I can't.

When I've been in severe pain over an extended period, reading and slightly delirious posting is one of the few things I've been able to do for any kind of distraction or sanity.

rinabean · 25/01/2015 16:29

aprilanne she's got heart problems and hypermobility I expect she's simply used to having to push through pain. I wonder if that was part of the problem with getting help, OP you need to speak up and tell them the problems, don't try and be a big girl it's not the time. I know it's hard when you're trying to keep it together but you have to tell them how bad it is because otherwise they won't know. Hope you get this sorted soon

FannyFifer · 25/01/2015 18:23

Hope you are ok, blue lips along with heart related problems sounds pretty worrying, your lack of care is really appalling.

Hope you get properly assessed & some actual help soon. X

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 25/01/2015 18:32

I hope you ve been taken straight to a and e. For some proper treatment.

Oodbrain · 25/01/2015 18:38

It wouldn't take huge trauma to dislocate a hip if it's Hypermobile.

bouncingbelle · 25/01/2015 18:59

Aprilanne - lying on the floor for 31 hours, off my face on painkillers, I had literally nothing else to do but update this thread. It was also the only thing keeping me from losing the plot.

Currently in A&E awaiting proper diagnosis.

WowserBowser · 25/01/2015 18:59

Bloody hell belle - hope you get sorted soon.

bouncingbelle · 25/01/2015 19:01

I think your right rinabean - my idea of 'normal' health is probably a bit different to some other peoples, if nothing else this had taught me to never ever leave things as long again.

Very harsh aprilanne. "Pain is whatever the experiencing person says it is, existing whenever the experiencing person say it does". McCaffrey (1989). Please quote this to any HCP.

Hope you get sorted out OP Flowers.

I know when I was ill in hospital posting on MN kept me sane.

EdSheeran · 25/01/2015 21:04

I've been following this thread with my heart going out to you. I am so glad that you are in A&E and hope you get seen soon.

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 25/01/2015 23:06

Any news ?

Unidentifieditem · 26/01/2015 07:34

Some people post during labour. Painless aprilanne? Or something to focus on through the interminable hours of pain?

bigbluestars · 26/01/2015 07:46

For immediate relief- accupuncture or osteopathy. Longer term- weight training and yoga.

ssd · 26/01/2015 07:56

really hoping you get some decent treatment now op

VivaLeBeaver · 26/01/2015 08:00

When I was admitted to hospital with my back and on hourly morphine i mumsnetted loads inbetween snoozing. As long as I wasn't moving it was bearable and you don't need to move to use a phone or tablet.

LineRunner · 26/01/2015 11:28

I've somehow hurt my lower back, it's agony, I can barely move out of bed. Yet here I am on my kindle.

bouncingbelle · 26/01/2015 20:32

Sorry I took so long to get back to you, A&E refused to do anything. They said they were an emergency service and if this happened a week ago (even tho I'm still in agony) it's obviously not an emergency. She wouldn't look at my back/pelvis, check where the pain was, anything. I explained to her that I was throwing up and was concerned it wad my heart tablets and she said "what, you can tell the difference between the tablets that you're throwing up?"

I feel totally disgusted, lost and have no idea what to do now.
