I'm in my 40s and yet somehow don't feel like I've ever got a handle on this.

What times/how often do you brush & floss?

Shower?

Wash your face?

I know there are no 'right' answers to these questions but I'm trying to figure out what it means to be well-groomed and to look after myself properly. Feeling a bit lost. What does it mean to you?

I also think the skankier people don't post because there are so many shower everyday without fail posts. I nearly didn't post the above.

LadyLuck10 · 17/01/2015 10:49

I shower, wash face and brush teeth twice a day.

Theveryhungrycaterpillar123 · 17/01/2015 10:53

Shower every morning, wash hair on the mornings I have time due to having small DC.

Face cream and moisturise whole body daily.

Clean underwear every day, will wear bra twice. Wash jeans when dirty. All other clothes are clean daily due to baby vomit etc.

Use face wipes at night.

Brush teeth twice a day.

Cocolepew · 17/01/2015 10:54

Shower and wash hair every morning. I have short hair I use eax on so it definitely needs washed. Would wear jeans maybe 4 times before washing. Change bra and vest every second or third day, clean knickers every day. Teeth twice a day and I cleanse at night because I have make up to take off.

penguinsaresmall · 17/01/2015 10:55

I shower every morning - it wakes me up properly! And brush my teeth, wash face, etc. if it's a run day I'll shower again after that. I only wash my hair every few days - any more and it would be a big fluff ball.

'Outer' clothes, tops, jeans, etc get worn a few times before washing, I don't seem to sweat, strangely...

coffeetofunction · 17/01/2015 10:56

Shower or bath 3/4 times a week

Wash/cleanse morning & night

Wash hair once a week

Change underwear every day, sometimes twice a day

Bra every other,

Jeans every couple of days...

I always look tidy & smell good

I do need to brush more but I hate the taste of toothpaste!!!

lookingforsunshine · 17/01/2015 11:04

Shower daily, bath once a week. Teeth always brushed twice a day.
Change knickers daily.
Bra..not often enough from reading this...
Providing other clothes are not stained or smelly sometimes keep for a week or so.
Wash hands meticulously after using toilet and when cooking, cleaning etc.

festivefling · 17/01/2015 11:05

I have sensitive skin so shower as little as possible, which is almost everyday in summer, but probably every 2-3 days in winter. Don't wash my hair each time I shower, again for soap/skin issues. Teeth twice a day, face splash with cold water and moisturise/lip salve before bed.

I work at home/outside so often change my clothes a few times a day, depending on what I'm doing, where I'm going etc. Clean socks/pants daily, other stuff is washed as needed.

fatlazymummy · 17/01/2015 11:06

I shower every day.
Clean myself with baby wipes every time I go to the toilet. Also use baby wipes to freshen up in the summer or whenever I feel sweaty.
Clean teeth morning and night.
Wash hair at least once a week, or every time I go swimming (3 times this week)
Do armpits, legs and bikini line once a week.
Keep finger and toenails short, cut once a week.
Remove hard skin from feet every few days then apply cream.
I go swimming all year round, so I have to do basic body maintanence. I don't wear makeup though or have things like manicures.

TheHorseHasBolted · 17/01/2015 11:11

Shower or bath once a day (unless absolutely impossible, e.g. camping and there's no showers), wash hair every 2 days.

Rarely wash my face with soap and water but it gets shower gel on it and I take off make-up with a cleansing wipe every night, or still use one if not wearing make-up.

Brush teeth twice a day, but I've never tried flossing.

Clean pants and socks/tights every day, bras and t-shirts can go 2 days (not necessarily 2 consecutive days) unless exceptionally sweaty, other clothes get washed when they seem to need it but are rarely worn several days in a row.

IPeeInTheShowerOhYes · 17/01/2015 11:16

I've had to re-learn clean over the years as my parents did not prioritise supervising it when I was young. I remember the amazing feeling of smooth, clean teeth after my dentist showed me how to brush my teeth. I must have been around 14.
It was a weekly bath in our house and the cost of heating the water was a big deal.
So when I left home and in my 20's lived in a house with a shower it was a revelation. I showered every day. However in other places I lived I slipped back into skankier habits.
In my late 30's I really decided that clean was the way to be and since then have been a bath or shower every day or every other day person. I always brush my teeth at night and 95% of the time in the morning too but after eating.
Socks/tights, pants, vest and tops are changed daily. Bras after 5/6 days. Trousers/skirts after 3/4 wears.
I don't think I'm as clean as I should be but I am so much cleaner than I have been.

Mammanat222 · 17/01/2015 11:16

Forgot to say earlier....

Knickers I change twice a day (clean in morning and clean before bed), socks once a day and bra's every few days.

Clothes I change daily if I have had them on all day. If I have only had them on for a few hours they do for another day. I don't own a pair of jean at the moment but when I do they get worn several times before washing.

Deodorant I put on in morning, would often have an afternoon spray at work as well just to freshen up.

Wear perfume sporadically.

MrsMyrtleMarple · 17/01/2015 11:30

Fuzzpig, you need to be very careful using Corsodyl mouthwash as it can make your teeth go permanently brown. My hygienist says it is best to be used on instruction of the dentist only. You would be better using any other mouthwash without alcohol.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/01/2015 11:40

Shower daily, waah hair every other day. Sometimes I have to leave it longer though because of a scalp condition, which I hate but over washing makes it worse.

Brush teeth twice a day as minimum but can be more if I've eaten something strong smelling/want to freshen up before going out in the evening.

Clean knickers and socks daily. Bra changed every couple of days except in summer when it will be daily.

Cutting toenails is something I hate loathe and detest. But I do it every other week to avoid it becoming an even more grim situation

Jeans - I have a few pairs on rotation and they just get washed when they're washed.

SocialMediaAddict · 17/01/2015 11:53

Bath or shower every day.

Floss once a day, brush teeth twice.

WhatWouldBlairWaldorfDo · 17/01/2015 11:57

Shower every day, wash hair every other day.

Morning = cleanse/tone/moisturise, brush teeth, clean knickers/socks

Evening = cleanse/tone/moisturise, shower, body moisturise, brush teeth/floss

specialsubject · 17/01/2015 12:03

shower or bath every day. If this is not possible, adults need to do 'pits and bits' thoroughly daily. Otherwise you WILL smell.

hairwash - I used to be daily but since some expensive straightening, it is every four days or so on hairdresser instructions. But if I've got sweaty then it is done that night or the next morning.

clothes; knickers and socks clean each day Other clothes get washed when smelly or stained so there's no absolutely schedule.

teeth brushed twice a day.

zukiecat · 17/01/2015 12:09

Hate showers so never have one.

I wash my hair about 4/5 times per week.

I boil the kettle for a quick wash if I have to go somewhere, otherwise just in pjs all day.

I love a bath on the rare occasions I can actually afford to put money in the gas meter.

I am clean and don't smell.

zukiecat · 17/01/2015 12:11

Oh and I wear dentures so take my teeth out to clean! I rinse my mouth out with mouthwash twice a day.

zukiecat · 17/01/2015 12:12

And I do change underwear every day!

starsandunicorns · 17/01/2015 12:19

Clean bedsheets every week

HouseBaelish · 17/01/2015 12:20

Shower/bath daily. Wash hair every other day.

Moisturise with SPF in the morning. Cleanse/tone/moisturise at night.

Clean teeth twice daily.

New knickers/socks every day. Bra and jeans wear three times before washing.

Shave every other day.

starsandunicorns · 17/01/2015 12:20

Clean teeth every night before bed mouthwash in morning

Me624 · 17/01/2015 12:22

I am probably quite skanky by most people's standards on this thread! I brush teeth twice daily without fail, and my fade gets cleansed every night when I take my make up off, but I only shower and wash my hair roughly every other day. Sometimes every day but it would be almost two days eg in the morning one day and then not until the evening of the following day.

Clean knickers and socks every day but I wear bras for at least a week or so I think ... Hard to say as I have so many and which one I wear obviously depends on what I'm wearing. I mostly wear dresses to work and they usually get worn 2-3 times each. Jeans I probably only wash every couple of months! Although they're only being worn at weekends and a couple of hours in the evenings during the week, if that - sometimes I get straight into pyjamas after work. T shirts and tops usually get worn at least twice.

I don't have a set schedule for clothes washing though. If something is stained or smells it gets washed, if it's not it gets worn again. As a teenager and in my early twenties when I worked in jobs on my feet all day I used to sweat buckets and so I showered daily and washed my clothes a lot more. Now I work in an office and barely sweat, so my clothes just don't need washing.

Strictlyison · 17/01/2015 12:24

Shower every morning, cleanse face with goats milk soap. Face moisturizer, no deodorant in winter just in summer. As I don't wear makeup I just splash water on my face in the evening and put Nivea cream.

I have very thick curly long hair and wash hair just once a week, but every other day I wet hair and put conditioner in it.

Brush teeth three times a day, floss every two or three days.

Change knickers and socks every day, trousers every other day, top every day, bra - every two or three days.
