To not flush every time I use the loo?

ScarlettDarling · 11/01/2015 21:20

Dh thinks it's disgusting that if we're all, (me, dh, ds, dd,) heading out somewhere and all using the loo just before we go, that I prefer us not to flush the loo after each wee. My reasoning is that an awful lot of water is being wasted with the loo being flushed 4 times in about 2 mins. His argument is that it's just plain to disgusting to wee on top of someone else's wee! So...who is right?!

You are.

clairemum22 · 11/01/2015 21:22

If you're all going one after the other before going out, I agree with you. Why do you need to flush each time?

MrsTawdry · 11/01/2015 21:22

You are. It's wasteful to flush just so you can pee on clean water! He's being silly. I insist that wees are doubled up....sometimes tripled and quadrupled! As long as it's flushed afterwards then no issue.

Annunziata · 11/01/2015 21:23

Yes! There is plenty of water to use!

What if you had a visitor before you flushed?!

Royalsighness · 11/01/2015 21:23

I don't flush every time in the evenings because I worry it will wake my son up, unless I have a tom, then I flush obvs

Royalsighness · 11/01/2015 21:24

Being pregnant I am weeing every 30 mins though

originalusernamefail · 11/01/2015 21:25

YANBU if it's yellow let it mellow and all that Grin. My loo takes about a year to refill so flushing 4 times in 2 mins would be impossible anyway x

ThursdayLast · 11/01/2015 21:25

I hardly ever flush after every wee.

Even if I have guest.

CaptainAnkles · 11/01/2015 21:26

I agree with you OP. What possible difference does he think it makes whether you pee into water that already has pee in it? Does he think that it's going to leap out of the loo into the next person's body or something?

ScarlettDarling · 11/01/2015 21:28

Yes! I am right! Thanks ladies.
Annunziata ...I don't leave wees there indefinitely! I just don't like to flush if someone else is using the toilet straight after me. I think it's a massive waste of water!

CrohnicallyCold · 11/01/2015 21:28

We don't flush at night or if we both need the toilet at the same time.

I was however mortified when I forgot to flush in the morning and a workman popped round to fix something. I know he used the toilet while he was here as he left the seat up!

PurpleStripedSock · 11/01/2015 21:30

I grew up in Australia and water restrictions due to serious droughts were a constant way of life. We grew up with the adage 'if it's brown, flush it down, if it's yellow, let it mellow'.

You are not being unreasonable or disgusting. The waste products can't leap up out of the bowl and infect everyone.

Views are entrenched though and you're unlikely to sway your partner.

CrohnicallyCold · 11/01/2015 21:30

Of course, neither of us ever mentioned it.

Sallystyle · 11/01/2015 21:30

YABU

I hate going to the toilet and seeing pee in it.

Especially if someone does it over night and it stinks.

drudgetrudy · 11/01/2015 21:33

Yuk! YABU

ScarlettDarling · 11/01/2015 21:34

Ah U2 ...that's the other time I wouldn't flush. If I need a wee in the middle of the night I never flush, it would wake the house up!

OP posts:
Sallystyle · 11/01/2015 21:46

I am lucky that all mine sleep through anything.

If it woke up young children who couldn't go back to sleep easily after than I might consider not flushing because I would rather smelly pee than awake children.

Endler32 · 11/01/2015 21:49

We are on a water meter, so 'no' we don't flush if another family member is about to go in after for a pee.

Mammanat222 · 11/01/2015 21:52

I don't flush after every wee (pregnant but have a weak bladder anyway) my OH thinks its vile but he is like a camel and only pee's a few times a day so he doesn't know how long I leave wee down the loo for.

I prob flush every 3rd wee?

SlaggyIsland · 11/01/2015 21:59

YANBU but I do find it yukky, glad I live somewhere where I feel no guilt wasting water!

Dinnerfor1 · 11/01/2015 22:01

I don't flush after every wee. I'm pregnant with dc2 and am going to the loo about 5 times a night. Dd would definitely wake up! Also, it does seem like a massive waste of water when I know I'll be using it again before anyone else.

Weathervain · 11/01/2015 22:02

Water metered so no to every time we wee. Especially at night because it would disturb everyone.

AntiHop · 11/01/2015 22:10

Yanbu. We only flush probably about every third time with wees

ScarlettDarling · 11/01/2015 22:14

Feeling so happy the majority think I'm not disgusting! Dh due in from work soon, am tempted to leave my before bed wee in the loo for him!

goldopals · 11/01/2015 22:39

I do not flush after every wee. My toilet is dodgy; the cistern takes a while to fill up after the toilet is flushed. I cannot physically flush the toilet every time
