Do they really believe this?

Do they think that by murdering innocents they will get their reward? They took my cousin 12 years ago, I will never forget the screams of my aunt.

I hope that the French jihadists rot for eternity.

OP posts:
Whowillsaveyoursoul · 09/01/2015 19:37

Or being forced to get married aged 11 and have sex with a man four times your age.

OxonConfusedDotCom · 09/01/2015 19:37

Bumwad- why for me??! Do not think and have NOT said "Muslims should apologise". I have said their leaders should condemn the attacks. Utterly different!

BumWad · 09/01/2015 19:39

Who are Muslims leaders Oxon?

NewYearsHangoversHurtAlot · 09/01/2015 19:39

I suspect what a lot of these people lack is a support network, much like most cult followers.

Jihadi groups seem to be formed of waifs and strays with no sense of direction and no structure or support. Same as most cults really. I think the in the name of Islam is a misnomer

BMW6 · 09/01/2015 19:41

Yeah, and a 9 year old giving birth usually ends really well

Well, Margaret beaufort was 12 when she gave birth to the future Henry VII, and that was knocking onto a thousand years after Muhommed..... her husband (and her parents who arranged the marriage) were good catholics, by their own lights.

Just saying you really cannot judge ancient values from our present day stance. Of course I think Noooo..... but I am of now, not Then, as are you. So stop it. The penis pendant remark was frankly peurile.

OxonConfusedDotCom · 09/01/2015 19:43

Not for me to say, Bumwad! Am not a Muslim but clearly there is now distrust on both sides which is not ideal. Feel free to make suggestions. Clearly more effort needed or better directed efforts for the message to come across loud and clear in all media to everyone.

BMW6 · 09/01/2015 19:44

Sorry, that post was to gincamparidryvermouth - and I suggest you lay off them.....

Bum - you're crass, rude and unnecessarily confrontational. And picking on me, what, randomly?! All religions/groups need leaders, informally or otherwise. Are you Muslim? If so, then make some sensible recommendations rather than making snide attacks on a stranger!

DamnBamboo · 09/01/2015 19:53

Username let's get this straight, you don't think that there is any difference between a 9 year old having sex and a 16 year old having sex?

BumWad · 09/01/2015 19:53

Not necessarily true. Who is the leader for Hindus? Hmm?

I hope I just made you think just a little about what you said. I have no answers to the horrific goings on in the world. But comments such as he/them/they should apologise make no sense whatsoever.

Maybe you should apologise for coming across as a complete knob? Smile

ghostland · 09/01/2015 19:56

Was anyone killed or threatened with death by militant Christians for watching or making Life of Brian?

OxonConfusedDotCom · 09/01/2015 19:57

Bum- again offensive! For the last time i do not think amd have not said Muslims should apologise.back off and re-read my post and less of the " knob" for anyone who disagrees with you! And again, feel free to make constructive recommendations instead of derailing the thread with your uncouth vitriol.

NewYearsHangoversHurtAlot · 09/01/2015 19:58

Lots of threats were made not sure if they were to the extent of the Islamic threats but tbh what ISIS are doing is no different to the Christian crusades of the middle ages

Just to be a pedant ...

Historically, the transition from girl to womanhood was signified by menarche. In fact, in medieval Persia (Islamic Iran), it was made illegal to marry any girl before her menarche, which would often occur in the mid to late teens at the time.

When it comes to Aisha, you have to remember that Islamic marriage is not the same as Christian marriage; it is a legal contract (hence the reason why divorce and polygamy is acceptable), not a religious state of divine union by which two halves become whole.

Archfarchnad · 09/01/2015 20:01

"Not in England it wasn't - saw it at the flicks when it was first released! I assume you are from Eire??"

Nope, DH is from Ireland, and it was unsurprisingly banned in public there. I grew up in Wales, and it was certainly not available anywhere near us (very rural area but also not shown in local towns. Might have been on in Cardiff.). I didn't realise there were parts of England where it was shown. Since it wasn't shown by the Beeb it was effectively banned with us. I certainly didn't get to see it until I was an adult.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 09/01/2015 20:05

To go back to the OP, there is a wonderful cartoon of the 72 virgins all being 80 year old spinsters and the 'martyr' sinking his head in his hands when he sees his eternal 'reward'. We have to stand up to all attacks on our freedom to think and speak, whatever the religion involved.

ghostland · 09/01/2015 20:06

NewYears; But the Crusades weren't just Christians killing Muslims it was also Muslims killing Christians. Both religions were expansionary and colonialist, that is how half the world (which was originally of no religion/pagans/animists) became Christians/Muslims (via the sword).

The Bamiyam Buddhas that were destroyed by the Taliban were the only remains of the fact that Afghanistan was once mostly Buddhist before Islam conquered it.

NancyRaygun · 09/01/2015 20:06

Isn't an Imam a leader? and many many many Muslims and religious leaders have condemned the attacks, because these murderers have as much to do with true Islam as the Westboro lot have to do with Christianity.

QueenTilly · 09/01/2015 20:07

Margaret Beaufort also had only one child, (quite a concern for royals) and always attributed it to having had Henry too young, as did others at the time.

SwedishEdith · 09/01/2015 20:11

I just googled Life of Brian and death threats and apparently Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle et al did - I'm not actually surprised at that. Doctors in the US have been murdered for performing abortions.

ToomanyChristmasPresents · 09/01/2015 20:21

Yes, Margret Beaufort's child at 13 was against the mores of the time. Ok to marry, not ok to consummate until later if the bride was so young. It was a scandal at the time.

BackOnlyBriefly · 09/01/2015 20:23

Muslims don't have leaders because the Imams wouldn't allow it.

BMW6 · 09/01/2015 20:27

QueenTilly
Of course - which is why we (as a Civilised Society) changed the Law over a few hundred years to protect young girls! It is a travesty that even in these enlightened times girls are still married far too young.

But they didn't know that then - Muhommed was around in the 7C and Margaret Beaufort was in the much more knowledgable 16C (or 15C). They knew it was dangerous (her own parents) and they still did it.....

My only point was to make clear that it's not just those "nasty Muslims" that abused children.

How old was Katherine Howard when Henry VIII had her beheaded??? There's a good Christian Prince for you......
