72 virgins in paradise

Do they really believe this?

Do they think that by murdering innocents they will get their reward? They took my cousin 12 years ago, I will never forget the screams of my aunt.

I hope that the French jihadists rot for eternity.

oxon Muslims very often condemn the attacks. See the Muslim council of Great Britain and Quilliam. The Arab League of Nations also regularly publicly condemn terrorism and at least publicly deny their members financial involvement.

There are also regular commentaries from community leaders. Problem is it doesn't make an exciting headline like a fundamentalist would.

'Stop killing people' isn't as sensationalist as 'We want to kill you all'.

The Life of Brian wasn't banned everywhere in the UK , just by some local authorities. I saw it at the cinema as a teenager after the nuns who taught us asked us not Grin. Anyway, Dave Allen was still on tv.

*Life of Brian anyone?

Don't know how old you are, New, but Life of Brian was banned from cinemas and TV for many years.*

Not in England it wasn't - saw it at the flicks when it was first released! I assume you are from Eire??

Cornettoninja · 09/01/2015 19:19

I was hoping someone would post that head Grin

I can't for the life of me figure out images on my phone.

Cornetto, i'm not at all saying they don't. But they need to be more vociferous/public/tactical in how they do this. Befriend the media. If the Royal Family managed an about turn on Camila, then why not?

306235388 · 09/01/2015 19:22

I don't know if they believe it, I suspect they do. However I don't suppose it's that important - they want to die in glory and uphold what they believe is right. The virgin thing is irrelevant IMO.

Also IMHO people criticising the beliefs of these terrorists are not islamophobic because what they are doing is as abhorrent to Muslims as it is to anyone else.

In reality this is murder, terrorism or whatever . Politically motivated and, IMO, hiding behind the guise of religion .

CaptainHolt · 09/01/2015 19:22

I did read about suicide bombers protecting their genitals in preparation for meeting the 72 virgins (i thought the translation was grapes, which i'd prefer to sugared almonds, but is still pretty rubbish as a motivator)
I don't know if it's true or not, but seems like a failure in logic considering that the rest of your body would be blown to pieces Confused

26Point2Miles · 09/01/2015 19:23

I often wonder about the parents of these nut jobs as well...if it's so intrinsic within them by adulthood then what was childhood like? Parents and upbringing play a part .... Nature v nurture.....

Terrorism isn't really anything to do with religion. If I were to slash the tyres on your car and claim I did it because you are following the wrong religion it still wouldn't have anything to do with religion and everything to do with being a nut!
If there were no religion these psychos would find another reason to kill and harm.

SwedishEdith · 09/01/2015 19:26

I don't think these two were brought by their parents. But the impact on the rest of the family must be dreadful.

I've still got some sugared almonds left over from xmas - love sugared almonds.

HesterShaw · 09/01/2015 19:27

I think it is. I think it's naive to say religion has nothing to do with it. But only in today's world where communication tools are such that we can see instantly what is happening all round the world.

Dawndonnaagain · 09/01/2015 19:28

Life of Brian was banned in some areas, it was up to each council to decide. (Remember arguing it with other councillors who banned it where we were).
With regard to current subjugation of women, I give you the abortion laws in Northern Ireland/ROI.

Muslim Council of Great Britain A statement

As mumonashoestring said, it's not the fault of Muslims, it's the fault of a few bigots.

Ohfourfoxache · 09/01/2015 19:29

I don't mean to cause offence with this, but do they specify that the reward will be 72 female virgins?

BackOnlyBriefly · 09/01/2015 19:30

I don't think we can judge Mohammed for having sex with a child because those were primitive times (it's not like he really had a god to tell him what was right and wrong. Allah is just a story) but I can judge Username12345 for saying it is ok now.

QweenCnut · 09/01/2015 19:30

Yes, 72 female virgins

OP posts:
26Point2Miles · 09/01/2015 19:31

Not just these two.... All the kids fleeing to join ISIS, their families brought them up. To believe in this 72 virgins and peanuts nonsense?

NewYearsHangoversHurtAlot · 09/01/2015 19:31

Best hope the female jihadists are lesbians then else they will be a bit pissed off with all the virgins asking for sex tips like teenagers reading just 17 for the first time

Ohfourfoxache · 09/01/2015 19:34

Shame - 72 male virgins would be an interesting twist!

Whowillsaveyoursoul · 09/01/2015 19:35

It has everything to do with religion.

Islam and the western civilisation are largely incompatible. It requires a degree of acceptance from both sides but it seems to be it hasn't been particularly well balanced.

I work with a 'moderate Muslim' never have I had cause to particularly discuss his religion with him and am reasonsbly friendly with him but in light of what's happened in Paris he basically said he understood why the terrorists had taken those actions and that the cartoonists should expect repercussions if they antagonise people.
He's in no way someone who would take these matters into his own hands but I was pretty stunned yesterday when it became obvious he had sympathy with the terrorists.

HesterShaw · 09/01/2015 19:36

With regard to current subjugation of women, I give you the abortion laws in Northern Ireland/ROI.

I know it's not a competition and everything, but in my opinion that's not as bad as having rocks flung at you until you die because some men think you have been unfaithful to your husband.

Whowillsaveyoursoul · 09/01/2015 19:37

Yes or being murdered because you've been raped and brought shame to your family.
