...and to add the 72 virgins is an over egged piece of propaganda. Terrorists are committing acts in the name of Islam by justifying upholding gods laws as decreed in Quran. Yes they believe they'll be rewarded in death but 72 virgins or 72 Mars bars makes no odds. Glory is the prime motivator (I suppose you could argue about the motivation of that glory being for god, themselves or their peers but it's a massive digression as to whether they would be rewarded under their own rules).

Hold your horses folks - marriage between older men and young girls was commonplace historically in many cultures - it's likely that the Mary of Christian myth was no older than 12 or 13 - but marriage was not synonymous with sex, especially in houses where there were already older wives. The younger wife was a sort of investment for the future, not necessarily an object of lust.

Either way, complete red herring when the problem here (as with all religious extremists) is a small minority of bigoted arseholes, not the mainstream religion they hide behind.

Puberty can start at 9. Historically that is how people determined transition from childhood to adulthood.

16 is an arbitrary age. Nothing magically happens when you turn 16 to suddenly make you ready for sex you know.

I also feel sorry for moderate Muslims but I feel their leaders should stand up much more strongly/openly to condemn these attacks. Plus bring Islam into c21st by eradicating the segregation of women, the use of burqua etc etc. Christianity has grudgingly done it to some extent, so should all faiths. I see Muslim journalists such as Yasmin AB speak out regularly but where are the other voices?

Comparison means nothing because in the eyes of those who react violently they are doing the right thing - other religious people are wrong for not defending their beliefs in the same way. The only example it sets to them is how not to be faithful.

Don't know how old you are, New, but Life of Brian was banned from cinemas and TV for many years. I remember not being able to watch it in the 1980s. DH was at university in Ireland then and had to join his uni's private cinema club in order to be able to see it legally - so satirising Christianity in the UK/Ireland is a relatively new phenomenon.
